Be honest

I pre-booked a table for 20.00 we arrived at 19.55 and after a couple of minutes was greeted by a staff member who checked our booking and then took us to our table. (All good so far) She returned shortly after to ask if we would like to order any drinks so I asked for a grouse with soda and a fruit cider drink for my wife but she then said they had no grouse, I asked her what whiskeys did they have and she said Jameson's Glenfiddich or black label so I asked for the black label. I heard her telling the lady at the bar the drinks order but was concerned when she replied Jameson's so I confirmed to them it was black label that I had ordered and they both agreed and reassured me it was black label. When the drinks arrived she then took our food order and I then started to drink my black label only to realise it was jamasons I was going to complain but my wife asked me not to get upset as I had recently come out of hospital after an operation and she was worried I might cause the wound to start bleeding so I left it.
The meal arrived and looked great but we where soon talking about how bland the sea bass was and the hunters chicken schnitzel was obviously microwaved and the triple fried chips were not as they were soggy due to being heated up in the microwave, I asked the lady who brought our food if she was the chef and she replied "no your food would be a lot worse if I had cooked it" so I said so you know it's not the best then and she embarrassingly laughed and walked away.
After the meal I was asked if we wanted any more drinks so I asked for another black label & soda but watched as she was looking confused and lost trying to find the black label when the bar lady went to her and told her to use the Jameson's and at this point I went to the bar and asked why they couldn't just be honest a say they had no black label and not lie about it as well as charge me for black label had completely ruined the atmosphere of what had been a great day at every other place and people we had met that day. The bar lady said she was sorry and would change it on the till to Jameson's but in all honesty I will not go back to this establishment next time we are in Cornwall (once bitten twice shy) and will be making family and friends aware to stay away on their next trip to Cornwall.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Birthday Weekend Gem – We visited 2 nights in a row!

We visited The Pearl & Trawl during my recent birthday long weekend away, and honestly—We ended up going back 2 days in a row, which says everything.

First off, the food across the board was consistently excellent, I am gluten-free and the menu is incredible and both meals I tried were full of flavour and beautifully presented. It made such a difference being able to relax and enjoy proper meals without worrying.

The atmosphere was warm and stylish, with that cosy-modern pub feel that makes you feel so comfortable and not at all rushed to leave.

There’s also a great social vibe in the evenings, with regular entertainment like quiz nights and bingo, which adds to the overall experience and makes it feel like a real local favourite.

A huge bonus for us: it’s incredibly dog-friendly. There’s even a thoughtful doggie station with water and treats, so our two were made to feel just as welcome as we were.

But what really stood out was the service—especially Chelsea, who was absolutely amazing. She remembered I was gluten-free when we returned the second evening and handed me the menu without me even needing to ask. That kind of attention to detail is rare and genuinely appreciated.

If you’re in Wadebridge, don’t miss this place. We’ll 100% be back again.

Great Service and Food

Great, attentive, friendly service from Stephanie and a really nice meal - good portion size, well put together and very tasty. With the current promotion of 30% off main courses, it was very good value.

A bit on the pricy side

Called in as was passing by and needed some food however would probably not bother again as it is expensive for what we had and the bar prices even worse.
We had a sober driver who was drinking tea or a soft drink while we sampled the poor quality overpriced draft beers and ciders.
Did not see a bar tariff behind the bar anywhere so had to ask for prices and hard to accept a 4.2% beer was £6 which is expensive in anyones view.
Bar staff were not knowledgable about the beers nor on the day we went (mid week) seemed to be too interested with little interraction. The impression given was that the staff were trying to earn some money but offered little customer service in return as we felt young and inexperienced only. If not reliant on EPOS they would be stuffed.
We found out a small pot of tea was £3.50 which is expensive anywhere for a single tea bag and hot water.
Food was Ok and oddly priced but we feel microwaved or steamed but certainly pre-prepared so not directly fresh. Table staff seemed over attentive and bar staff under attentive and it was a quiet evenng.
Toilets were clean and there was decent free parking on site however we will look for other places to eat which actually serve fresh food before we return.
Research showed up this is a Marstons run property which could explain the high prices and lack of atmosphere.
Travelodge available on site if needed but no ideas of prices as we went home.
