Payless is a scam!

We did a car reservation, creditcard was not on the name of the driver. We had to pay 500 euro extra for administration fee. Ofcourse we didnt.

Lost 200 euro with our reservation like 4 other costumers. Its a big scam. Never rent a car here.

Worst car rental experience ever- lady…

Worst car rental experience ever- lady behind the counter was too busy texting on her personal cell to pay attention that I was dropping the vehicle off at a different location. I was extremely clear about that, she told me she would take care of it. Well I dropped it off at the agreed on location and then they charged me 2k because I dropped it off at a different location and it wasn’t noted that i was doing it. Now I’m trying to get someone on the phone to talk to me but they NEVER answer the phone.. I might have to fly back to Kansas City just to resolve this issue.

When I called to complain they put me on hold and then never came back on the phone.

Never hire car from website…

Never hire car from website paylesscar.com. Payless is franchising of Avis. When I came in the office to rent Avis didn’t see my reservation. On the question: why you don’t see, coz i paid online via site, answer was: don’t know. Confirmation didn’t come on the email. So I didn’t have confirmation number. I tried to reach this Payless no number no email nothing. Avis rental also doesn’t know anything. First time in my life I saw such mess.

This is not Airport rentals fault per sey but they should be aware the rates they are quoting $24.10 daily rate is not what I had to pay of the counter. Payless in Puerto Rico charged $28 per day and additional fees so my total went from $238 to $321 and they wanted to charge me a non refundable $500 insurance deductible fee on top of that. after heated discussion they relented on the $500. Payless in Puerto rico was trying to scam everyone, Tried to charge the person next to me $900 deposit.. Never use this company again. Also they wouldn't take the insurance i purchased either so that was another $100 lost on this deal. Steer clear of Payless i Puerto rico!

We reserved a car online to be picked…

We reserved a car online to be picked up at San Diego Airport. Our flight was delayed and the Payless office was closed. We went back the next day to pick up the rental car. To start with the car was $20 more than I was quoted online. The gentleman that I was dealing g with stated that it was just additional tax because we picked it up at the airport. We found out later that the additional charge was for roadside assistance which I was never offered. I also feel that it is their car and I should not need roadside assistance. Our flight out was very early in the morning and I was offered to pre-purchase gas which at 3:00am sounded like a good option so we did not have to do it. I was told that because we would be there for a week that he would charge us $70.00 for a full tank of gas. I do understand that no part of that is refundable. When I was signing the contract there was a total of $183.46 added to the bill. I asked what that was for and he responded for the gas. How can $70.00 of gas actually cost $183.46? I have contacted Payless corporation together an answer. They did refund the $20 for roadside assistance but after numerous contacts with them they have refused to answer why that cost was added on. This is only the second car I have ever rented and Payless will no longer receive any of my business or anyone I associate with. Renter beware!!!

I would give 0 if I could. Their Denver facility got closed 30 minutes before their official hours of operation and I couldn’t get the car I reserved. I would never do business with them again

My mother died in Nevada flew in and…

My mother died in Nevada flew in and needed a car. Payless had a sign cars available. I knew I was going to pay top dollar. The car was parked in a covered garage the keys in it. I ended up using this filthy car very little. I too the car back with under 30 miles on it. Later back a home I got a thank you letter telling me I smoked in their car. They had pictures of the existing filth in the car and called it ashes. I got a letter from my doctors office I can’t be around smoke or I am hospitalized. These crooks would have got away with charging me 450.00 for nothing I did if I didn’t have respiratory issues they would’ve got away with it.

SAN airport: extra charges, poorly maintained and dirty car

Booked a car through Expedia for San Diego airport (SAN) for a good price - order stated "Taxes and Fees Included". At the counter, the Payless employee Nathan charged me four additional fees and insisted on the car upgrade or else my "car will have windows that may not open". So I paid at the and a double price. Still got a car with 84K miles on, smelly, sharklet antenna missing, front sign missing. Worst experience ever.

terrible service

I had a car reserved but the lineup at the airport was horrendous. People had been waiting 2-3hours to pick up a car. There were 2 people serving at the desk and it appeared that we would wait all evening so we skipped out and rented from Budget. Paid twice the price but at least we got a car and could leave. Never again.

Paymore would be a better name

Paymore would be a better name. For a 1.5 day rental, they took $460 out on my card! The supposed “validation” fees were never mentioned or discussed. I’m supposed to get $260 returned in 5-10 business days! Do yourself a favor and find a different company to rent from. These guys are deceitful and crooked.

Never Again!

I had my confirmation of a Payless rental through CarRentals.com on Oct 26th for 12 days....Got to the counter and was advised that my rental confirmation wasn't in the system and that I was basically SOL. Rental agent would not look or give any consideration to my reservation and because of our timing we had to proceed to get another car from them or go to another company.
Ended up charging me almost double my guaranteed price and received the worst car I had ever rented in the past 20 years.
Poor service to say the least....If I could leave a -1 review I would.

Horrible. Felt like being swindled

A zero rating would have been my choice. The payless rental service in San Diego Airport is a franchise. A more appropriate name would be "PAYMORE" or "WORTHLESS". I have rented twice from this company at SAN and every time they have swindled me. The first time our flight was delayed and we arrived at the counter over an hour after the reservation time. They said they could not give the car for the reserved rate and nearly doubled the rate from 200 to over 400 dollars. Last weekend I reserved a so called "payless special." When doing the paperwork at the desk, the last thing you sign is the total price which was suddenly 30 dollars more than the rate I had reserved the vehicle for. I had a print out of the reservation with price and reservation number with me, but they would not issue the vehicle for the reservation's price. They wasted two hours of my time. The "special" was a rundown tiny vehicle with more scratches, dents you would think were possible and a damaged windscreen. I was hesitant to rent this car but when I went back they offered me 4 similar vehicles in similar terrible shape, so I decided to take the initial one assigned. The tiny damage slip was filled completely with all the damage notations. After bringing it back 2 days later, I asked the attendant for a receipt, but he said it would be emailed to me. Had to call them a few days later to get my drop off receipt. I first called the central payless office but they said they could not help me as it is a franchise and not in their system. All in all again a horrible experience. For me never again. This Payless franchise needs to be investigated for ripping off their customers.

Did not refund deposit

We hired a car out from Payless and paid a $200 deposit, I called them when we returned and they said it should be refunded within 5 days that was 2 months ago and we still haven’t received the money! Do not use this company

Avoid at all cost!

I hired a car via branch in Bratislava Airport. I returned the car undamaged, cleaned and with the full petrol tank. Yet, they claim it is damaged and intend to charge me £250. They return part of my deposit but not all (even after deduction that I am disputing) Literally impossible to get hold of anyone, refusing to escalate my complain and refuse to provide details for external bodies overseeing their business activities - do wonder why that is!

Absolutely the worst experience ever

Absolutely the worst experience ever. Stood inline for an hour. They had one person working. No other rental agency in the entire airport had a line and had several people working. Never, ever booking with them again.

Won't use them again

Won't use them again. Just because its a budget arm of Avis, doesn't mean standards can bottom out. I picked up car, explained I didn't have phone cable & couldn't use phones sat nav.
1. Asked if the car had sat nav (to be honest, its pretty normal now), it did not!
2.I am elderly, travelling alone, to a foreign country. The response might have been.... lets see if we have a car available with sat nav fitted? The car I'd chosen was not the one I was allocated, but the 'get out' was, its a similar size! Went to collect the car:
3. Pouring with rain, the car is at the back of the car park blocked in by 4 cars!!
4. I have to use the remaining bit of phone battery to video the condition of the car (recommended by the staff). So no phone use for emergency/sat nav.
5. Drive off, no offer of a map. I go in the wrong direction..... 1 hour later, I've turned around and am back where I started....
6. Desperately trying to find a cable for my phone (airport didn't have one, its an older model). Stopping at various places. Eventually paid a fortune for a cable, go to the car to plug it in.... guess what. The car doesn't have a USB port!
7. another search ensues to find an out of date cigarette lighter adapter. Stopping at more places.
8. Finally locate an adaptor , why don't you put them in the cars? or explain they'll be required at the check in desk? II don't need one of those in my car.

Answer: you're too busy adding extra charges for this that and the other.... When I returned the car, I explained the difficulties I'd had.... the operator was like an automaton.... he asked had I filled the car? You need to take note of this sort of issue.

You put me at extreme risk and made my travelling very stressful and the initial journey was 3 times the length it should have been. Thank you.

**SCAM** DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

We rented a Chevrolet truck for one day which we returned early. We paid full price for insurance and also paid for a full tank of fuel before we even collected the vehicle (which was returned half full). After arriving home to the UK we received a letter in the post 1 month later accusing us of smoking in the vehicle. Due to this we have been charged $450 to clean the vehicle. WE DO NOT SMOKE!!!!!! And there was certainly no smell of smoke in the vehicle when we returned it to the Airport in Las Vegas. How can cleaning a vehicle cost $450!!!!! We will be taking this further and claiming money back from our credit card company as you have completely scammed us. You thought because we paid the top insurance you couldn't scam us for scratches on the vehicle (even though we didn't cause any) so you decided to LIE about us smoking to get more money out of us. The bill is totalling up to $1,000 for 12 hours rental! SCAM SCAM SCAM! Do not use this company. They think because we live in another country that they can get away with this.

WORST CAR RENTAL COMPANY

WORST CAR RENTAL COMPANY - DO NOT USE!

I normally use Enterprise, never had a problem with them. They charged me an extra day even though I brought the car back a day early. Now I am fighting to get my money back. They also charged me insurance which I did not need or ask for. Almost $500 total for less than 48 hours for what they called a mid-size - Honda HR-V 4 cylinder. I booked through Southwest and will never book through them again. What an awful experience!
