This is a true and fair warning to everyone.
Stay away from Société Générale. Especially in Valance d'Agen 82

Dishonest Bank

We have been communicating with Societe Generale since November 2024 to move our money to our Australian bank account. We have supplied all the requested documentation. We email and phone regularly but still they have not processed our transfer nor do they respond to our communications. We have tried every avenue available to us but still they don’t respond or give us our own money. This bank operates as if they are still living in the Dark Ages. They are modern-day thieves.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs.
Customer service representative very rude and unwilling to receive constructive feedback. They require you send everything by post to France and when I suggested online being more effective he told me he heard this everyday in multiple languages and can do nothing about it. Then he suggested I post a letter to France to make a complaint! Completely useless company. Utterly ridiculous.

Bank blocked my money and attempted to force account closure after complaints

Since 17 January 2026, Société Générale has been preventing me from sending my own money to my family.

My TapTap Send card payments are approved in the SG app (SécuriPass), yet the bank refuses the transaction, causing every transfer to fail.

I reported this issue repeatedly for more than two months via the banking app and by email, with no response or solution.

After I insisted and refused to remove a public review describing these issues, a member of staff attempted to pressure me into closing my bank account, despite my clear refusal. This was extremely distressing and inappropriate.

My complaint is now officially registered, but I have been told to wait up to 15 business days, which is unacceptable. I urgently need to send money to my family and cannot wait while my access to funds is blocked.

Blocking payments, ignoring written complaints for months, and attempting to push a customer out instead of resolving the issue shows a serious failure of customer service

Scammers

Scammers: You cancel a loan and they don't return the money you paid in advance or anything. They just keep trying to get you to keep paying and keep paying. They don't stop LYING.

If I could give this bank zero stars I would , this bank has been absolutely disgusting in every way, their charges are criminal , when you want to wire the charges WOW . The managers should all be sacked and the bank should not be aloud to carry on being a bank . It’s legal fraud . They are rude when you finally talk to them , always putting you on hold then phone cuts off . Read other reviews all the reviews are not wrong , 95% of people cannot be wrong . Steer well clear of this so called rip off bank .

Do not honor trades that they offer !

I have tried today to trade with them, according to their rules, three times, three trades, where I had the right to trade an amount of shares at a defined price, for a defined amount of time.
( there is a broker that connect you with SG market creator, where you can ask for pricing , for a defined amount of shares, they give you pricing, and for three seconds, you have the right to take the trade )
When I push the buttom, magically, my orders are rejected. !
But finally, when they offer me trades outside of real market at that time, suddenly, it goes through.
When complaining, " big orders, thats the system etc
"
Clearly, they fill your orders when they clearly are making a profit, buying from the market below the pricing they fill you, and selling to the market to a higher price that they have filled you.

Beware , do not trade with them,
They are not honorable !

I would avoid this bank

Since taking over from SMC in Valbonne the service has been awful. I have been asked to prove who
I am after 14 years at the bank! My card was blocked and I was unable to access my cash or see anyone without an appointment for weeks. I was told to borrow money as they could only give me money via an ATM.
Terrible

The person that manage my account is…

The person that manage my account is called Somnah Khadidja Berte in Societe General in Paris. They are the worst bank ever! Customer service zero! The system will steal you money every time there is a deposit taken from the hotels even the hotel say that the money will be reimburse from 5 to 7 business days the person that manage my account will say that the money was never taken away even I saw they did take it out. My other case was with AIRBNB I did a cancellation of an AIRBNB booking, Airbnb say that the money should be reimburse from 7 to 15 days and the money was never back in my account. Both of them gave me proof that the money was release, it was only in the bank that didn’t proof it! They doesn’t make you feel safe! There is a big problem with customer service because in France they will protect even the worst employee so they can say whatever and will never get fired.

I'm still with this bank but they are…

I'm still with this bank but they are appallingly bad. My original french bank account was with a bank that got taken over by SG. They were also terrible. Banking in general in France seems to be medieval compared to the UK for instance, where I'm from originally.
A small example: I'm trying to transfer some money to my revolut account as it's far easier to do stuff like withdraw money, transfer money to friends/relatives etc. than to jump through the many hoops I would have to with SG. Guess what, that service is currently unavailable on the SG app.
Happens all the time.
Terrible,terrible bank.

We had our Lexus NX car stolen in late May 2024. After more than 3 months (August 26) with no return of the car or offer of a payout from the insurance company, we are now more the victims of the incompetence of the insurance company than the Romanian perpetrators who initially stole our car. Customer service is non-existent!!!

There are some advantages of brick and morter banks. There is a real person who meets you and understands your problems. They can explain the procedure to you, but can also advise you how to get things done faster. Thank you Société Général, for maintaining your branch Dijon faculté, 50 bd Jeaenne d'Arc. Some really nice people work there.

The biggest and most mediocre bank in…

The biggest and most mediocre bank in France. Not for the average citizen. Too many abusive account blockages, exorbitant charges (16€ to send a letter to me, and they send a lot of unnecessary and meaningless letters), and the worst contempt shown to you by staff (you’re only dealt with by automated voices and bots).
