Oakwood Burglaries and Highly Dysfunctional Management

Oakwood used to function. Management has declined day after day. During my time at the Redwood City CA location (2.5 yrs) I have met 4 managers and many other temps. Residents’ security is the last item in their list of priorities. Management allows burglaries, homeless people to sleep on the internal staircases, and who knows what else. I say allow because hiding burglaries and incidents from residents make them accomplices. Not reinforcing security, or even checking cctv footages to provide details to residents and the police, and to have a constant broken gate that invites intruders when no security personnel is around aren't really things any resident should go through. I no longer feel safe living here. They say they have procedures that honestly are inexistent. Also they aren’t cheap and they don’t even clean the BBQ. Move to this building when Oakwood isn’t longer in charge.

Seriously shady disreputable organisation

Fraudulent contracts, harassment, spam and insulting clients.

Refusing to honour cancellations (that cancellation clause you thought you agreed with them) some more spam (200 emails and counting over 3 months), some more insulting clients - they don't really talk to you other than to tell you you are dim or to abuse you.
Nevermind that it is them that don't really hire the brightest people which obviously have no clue how to run an hospitality business and think insult and abuse are normal.

Do yourself a favour don't do business with them ever.

At least they did not threaten me with violence just needed that to be a criminal gang.

Oakwood is home

I had the greatest experience living at Oakwood Falls Church. The property is divided between permanent housing and temporary housing. Much of the temporary housing is used by folks that work for the state department and/or their families. I stayed there in a permanent apartment that I leased through Patricia Clarke.

Leasing and Moving in:
The process was fairly quick and easy - Patricia showed me around and gave me most of the information I needed to make an informed decision
On move in day, I kinda just got a key and was sent on my way. It was a bit strange for me as I am used to going in to check in an inspect but it was very much hotel like. Once I got my key, I was pretty much on my own.

Accommodations and living:
- I purchased a furniture package with my unfurnished studio and it had all the necessities for a very low price.
- I had a studio that came with a pull out bed and a brand new mattress
- I LOVED LOVED LOVED living at Oakwood Falls Church, the community just feels like home
- The security and customer service folks are very friendly and always willing and available to help (I locked myself out more often than I am willing to admit)
- All maintenance requests were taken seriously and completed within a day or less
- There was a shuttle service to the metro (though I felt that it was mostly efficient for the 9-5 work crowd)
- There is a grilling area with gas grills, loads of people used the both to casually cook dinner and to entertain friends
- Theres a store that is open every day from 9-9 and a dry cleaning service
- There are a bunch of activities in the evenings including kitchen gadget bingo and all sorts of themed food nights
- There are plenty of things for kids to do and a friendly activities staff
- My rent was automatically deducted every month, it was seamless

Cons:
- The cable was limited to about 30 channels and did not have many of the ones that I wanted to watch and I didn't have access to apps like ABCGo, HBOGo and etc
- This is neither here nor there since I had many kids in the community that I spent time with but it was quite kid friendly so the kids and their friends pretty much took over the pool/basketball court/volley ball court during the day in the summer
- There is a fee charged for using a credit card to pay for anything

Move Out
- I ended up needing to move out earlier than planned due to a personal situation and the process was understanding and seamless
- I moved out and returned my key when I was finished
- My deposit was returned to me 2 weeks later

Overall, I had a fantastic experience. If I ever move back to DMV, I would live at an Oakwood property again. When I am ready to move again, if it isn't in the DMV, I will look for an Oakwood apartment
