Terrible Organisation

They are supposed to be the UK mediator for domain disputes but they are useless.
I showed them absolute proof that I paid another company for 3 domains and after a year of their useless SEO service at £1000 including VAT they wanted a release charge that was criminal at £99+VAT per domain to transfer my paid for domains to my new hosting company.
It takes just 30 seconds to get a transfer code so this is extortionate.
Nominate wouldn’t honour my complaint because the company holding my domain to ransom wasn’t “abusive”!
Like OK, they didn’t swear at me or insult me but they are clearly trying to blackmail me!
If you want to get your property back from rogues then don’t waste your time with the hour long Nominet form.

The worst registrar I ever dealt with. Crooks

Terrible experience and unacceptable service. I bought a domain and it was suspended instantly before I even had the chance to build a website. I have absolutely no connection to the so-called “illegal business” they mentioned. What’s worse is that I was forced to go through a long, annoying verification process and provide all required documents, which they verified, only to later claim the verification was unsuccessful. This makes no sense at all. If the domain was going to be suspended anyway, why was it sold to me in the first place? Total waste of time and money. Very unprofessional handling, zero accountability

Extremely Helpful

Spoke to a lady regarding my domain expiring and couldn’t for the life of me fix it, spend 25 minutes of her time running me through it all and helping me fix it.

Incredible customer service.

Nominet suspended my domain

Nominet suspended my domain, which was paid up for years. We received no email about why. I spent two weeks trying to find out why our website was offline. It is because of anti-phishing; if they had checked the website and even given us a call, it would have prevented us from losing weeks of custom.

Suspended my domain and was asked to…

Suspended my domain and was asked to provide a series of documents to verify my identify. Also sent a written motivation for the domain use. Very slow on replies. I have contacted multiple times over the 4 weeks with 0 communication. Live support even said they are 'expecting' to hear from me and will resolve it ASAP. Clearly this was all a lie and I have been bearing all the subscription costs on the side because of this..... DO NOT USE THEIR SERIVCE.

Nominet - Police, Judge & Jury

Nominet are the Police, Judge and jury in all matters. You are guilty of something unless you can prove otherwise.
They are never satisfied with the mass of evidence you provide. They want a 'silly' selfie of you holding a utility bill.
They suspect that I might be the 'Mr.Big' of the internet underworld
Nominet requires you to provide evidence and answer questions - but decline to answer any questions you ask
Their attitude, whilst always polite, is high-handed, officious and unreasonable.
They cancel a domain for no good reason - and won't give one that justifies their decision.
Nominet tell me to claim my registration costs back from the registrar - BUT Nominet should refund me - they cancelled the domain. I have been 'mugged'.
This domain, registered from 2017 only came to the attention of Nominet when I acquired it in 2023. Were they asleep in the previous 6 years? I explained exactly what it was used for - nothing illegal, but Nominet isn't interested. I am sent emails from 'Registry Compliance'Advisor'—anonymous!—yet they expect me to divulge chapter and verse and provide a 'selfie'. That is even though I have sent a driver's photo license and ID via utility bills.. They insist on a selfie & I won't play their game. Is a photo driving license supported by 2 different utility bills not sufficient? I have had many, many domain names going back to 1999 and have never had this sort of nonsense before from Nominet
To summarise: this experience is most unsatisfactory and I will now not acquire or renew any domains. I will not be dictated to.
Nominet seems able whatever they want. Who regulates this power and authority that they appear to have.? Someone needs to. They are abusing their power and riding roughshod. More on this saga..........
Dear Anonymous Registry Compliance Advisor ,Thank you for your response.  You have proof of identity.   Nominet is adopting a 'jobsworth'. approach.  You can be in little doubt as to my identity.Clearly, I wasted time and effort in explaining who I was, where I lived, and that I didn't undertake the nefarious activities to which you referThis domain is of little significance to my lifestyle, and I feel confident about existing without it.   How does Nominet feel justified in not ensuring I am compensated?  Nominet has avoided answering any of the questions I asked relating to inaction during the previous 6 years this domain was registered. It became available to register, so I registered it.  I gave the correct identity when I registered it.  I have not misused it or done anything illegal.I purchased a domain; Nominet then effectively stole it from me and won't refund the sum I paid for it.   Porkbun does not have any obligation to refund. It now becomes necessary for me to consider making a claim in the small claims court.   I don't need the money but there is a principle at stake here. Please return the scanned documentation I sent to Nominet and confirm that you have not retained copies.  Nominet considers them false
More of Nominet.................
I have just received notification from a registrar that Nominet has verified another of my domains using EXACTLY the same photo & utility ID that I sent to Nominet where they won't unlock the domain I am complaining about. How INCONSISTENT is that. Here is the proof:

Nominet are ACE...

I don’t know about anyone else but my experience with Nominet was 100% and beyond, this experience comes directly from an awful experience I had with 123-REG, Nominet replies mostly within a 24-hour period occasionally 48 hours and sometimes within a few hours which is all acceptable.

Nominet being more of a legal entity have more loopholes to jump through but still do all this in a professional manner and within a timed schedule so you know where you stand.

I rate Nominet as an organisation.

Solved my problem. Love them!

I had awful support from namecheap when I bought my domain name. I could not be verified because they kept putting my business name as my individual name. Nominet were outstandingly helpful. I don’t think namecheap would have got it right without the emails from nominet.

Domain problems no more!

We'd been having domain issues with our previous provider for months and within a few hours of working with Nominet (Marie and Dawn), they had solved all of our problems and managed to transfer our domains over to another provider. Some of the best customer service I've ever experienced!

If you're having any domain issues give them a call on the disputes line and they'll work through to how to solve your problems. A huge thanks to Marie especially for all the support.

Absolutely Awful Experience. Have suspended my website even though it is nothing to do with them. I am a trusted company and never ever signed up with them but now my website cannot be visited. I am furious about this and I hope that no one ever uses them again!
