As a member, attended the Van Gogh exhibition at 10 am this morning. Large queues outside the NG, at both entrances. Why can the NG not open up at 9.30 so visitors can get a coffee etc in the cafe... See more

Santa’s grotto

We took are 3 kids here and was very disappointed, we normally go somewhere closer to home but it’s our 5 week olds first Christmas so we thought we’d do something a bit more special but I wish we didn’t bother. Firstly the “grotto” was in a really random place it was basically a corner in the entrance hall of the museum , it seemed very make shift and not a lot of effort was put into it especially considering the price you pay. You could see the metal shutters or door behind where they had pinned stuff on the wall , one very nice elf that greeted us who tried to entertain the kids by make jokes then the children were given a snow flake to colour in ( was hardly any space for them all ) and the parents had to stand in a massive line. Once we finally got to the front there was a hut where Santa was we went inside and was rushed through kids got a picture taken we didn’t get to take their coats off as it was rushed and the picture was awful ,they printed it out but it was such bad quality and I think they knew that as they also offered to take one on my phone , then the kids went to the front and picked up a gift from the lady who printed the photos …. Wouldn’t recommend it was not the experience we hope for and not value for money , no magical santas grotto at the national gallery

Never fails to impress

Never fails to impress. Always excellent exhibits and a secure but welcoming environment. My last visit gave me reason to buy Membership and now I look forward to spending more time, with greater involvement. Five stars once escape from Covid allows restaurants to fully open again

An Art Must See!!

A Location to visit when going to Central London!
There is an array of Art through the Ages, with Paintings that
truly defy description.
In order to better appreciate the Art on display, for what can be considered a reasonable fee, you can hire a headset with recordings for most of the displays.
The unsung 'heroes' are the knowledgeable and helpful staff that are throughout the building.
If you only have a short time in London, one for your list of things to do - if this is your home country , it's a must!!
