Love my credit union!
I went to open an account and while i was there they helped me consolidate some debts and I saved a ton on interest payments every month! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend DCCU to anyone local.

I went to open an account and while i was there they helped me consolidate some debts and I saved a ton on interest payments every month! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend DCCU to anyone local.
I have been a member at DuPont Community Credit Union well over 8 years. I was expecting fairness and trust. What I got was negligence and finger-pointing. After reporting a check issue that they mishandled, DCCU didn’t fix the problem — they turned around and tried to hold me responsible for their own error.
They issued deficiency notices, threatened collections, and even held collateral on my vehicles while ignoring clear facts and documentation. Every attempt I made to communicate or resolve things professionally was ignored and/or brushed off. Their staff showed little accountability and seemed unfamiliar with proper banking and dispute-handling procedures.
No member should have to fight their own credit union to get fair treatment. DCCU’s actions were careless and caused unnecessary financial hardship. I wouldn’t recommend this institution to anyone who values honesty and transparency.
If you’re considering opening an account or loan here — think twice. Once they make a mistake, you’re the one who pays for it. If I could give a negative rating, I would — that’s how poor and terrible my experience has been.
You may be a long-standing member of umpteen years, and one check error can leave you unfairly blamed for issues you didn’t cause. Don’t you dare try to pay a bill with your hard-earned money — you’ll be greatly inconvenienced, spending countless hours each week at the counter waiting for management approval before any real resolution. Based on my experience, this is not the member-focused credit union they promote themselves to be.
My account/debit card account recently showed three unauthorized charges in pending totalling $864.00 (not counting the bounced charges fees this created). During this time, I was trying to get my bank account authorized by an online thrift store platform. The site indicated I would see "temporary" charges as a hold on my account for verification. Charges I did not make appeared on my account while I was interacting with the site and I assumed that these were the temporary verification charges and thus authorized one of them. After an hour or so, I texted and emailed the online company back and asked for an ETA on when the charges would fall off. They said that these should have already come off. I called and emailed bank to let them know these (now three charges!) were not authorized and that I did not where the charges were coming from. The bank said they could not stop payment on the charges and that I needed to contact the vendors. After jumping in a user chat for one of the sites and emailing another site, I filed a police report too. All of the documentation and entire story was relayed to four different DCCU employees along with the urgency since these fraudulent charges would overdraft my account. No help. I relayed the reply from one of the vendors indicating this was a known "bad actor" attack and that vendor removed the charge. The other site sent an email back that I had to file police report and then go through my bank's dispute process. No help. I went back to the bank and asked to speak with someone to close my account and why. This gentleman asked me to repeat the entire story as he did not have access to dispute emails. He said he would get in touch with the dispute department and call me back. He called back and advised that only the smallest charge would be removed and he would remove all of the overdraft fees. So, I still have $499.00 taken out of my account and evidently no way to get assistance in getting it credited back even with all of the emails, research from me and multiple phone calls to all parties that had a phone number. As I have always been a loyal direct deposit customer and active proponent for DCCU, I am upset and saddened by the responses and interactions with the department that handles these situations. It makes me feel like I really am just a number and that I hold no value as a loyal customer. Prior to this, I recommended DCCU to family and friends as a five star bank.
I have been a member of DCCU for over 5 years. Not once did I experience an above and beyond moment ... which is fine but on many occasions they have fallen way short. The didn't have any opportunity for the small business loans given out during Covid. When I called to inquire, the woman on the phone told me that they had given all of it away already. To make me feel better, she let me know that I wouldn't be able to find any reserve left anywhere else either. It was such a strange phone call.
There was no loan follow up process. I just applied and then it went away. I had to reach out myself a few weeks later just to see if it was in process. It was! Another few weeks passed and I finally said forget it. It was approved but I declined the loan and will open my loan with my new bank. I've officially had it. Customer Support is lacking. They constantly flag your account for potential fraud. Of course, I want my accounts protected but I've lost faith that's what they're doing. Honestly, the 2nd star is because I don't think they have ever taken any of my money wrongfully. Maybe that should be worth 3 stars? Frustrating. Mediocre at best. (this is not a review of the people that work at DCCU- just the institution and it's policies).
