Disappointed; cancellation problems

Information was okay for beginners to the stock market. Was so "meh" that I forgot it was subscription. No warnings or invoices when they charge for new year - just happened to see it charged. When I contacted them they offered 40% refund - cancellation immediately meaning 350+ days of the year also canceled - 60% free money for them. Definitely left me questioning their business practices.

Not what I expected - Waiting for cancelation

Signed up. Info in my opinion is not great. Better info available free online. It is a nice newsfeed service I guess, but the advertisements made it sound like an AI driven stock picking service, not a newsfeed. Their model portfolios haven't been updated in more than 6 months as well. I have emailed customer service to cancel my subscription which I just paid $99 for. I'm not asking for a refund, just to cancel any auto renewal. I will update review once they respond. If they cancel, I'll update to a 4 star, if they give me the trouble seen over and over on this review site, I'll give them one star and have my bank process a charge back.

Poor customer service

Signed up for a year, used it periodically. Nothing special. Tried to turn off auto renew in the app and you have to do it on a web browser. I forgot to login and change it to not renew. I saw the renewal hit my card and the same day I contacted support requesting to cancel and refund the new charge. I got the "terms and conditions" line that the onus is on me to change it, but I was offered a partial refund, I guess they were thinking it would make me feel better. Anytime that has happened in the past with other companies they have refunded the full amount, especially when you literally did not use any of the new subscription. I would not recommend this service to anyone.

Just a simple newsfeed with profit…

Just a simple newsfeed with profit targets. The cancellation button on the webpage is not existing where it should be according to their terms and the button in the App says: "For more information about your subscription please contact the app developer". So in short cancellation is not possible. @Moby: If you are a serious company please provide the direct link to the cancellation page or answer to my mail.

Update after Moby reply:
Sorry I subscribed via your webpage and the mentioned cancel button does not exist as mentioned by nearly 30 other reviewers here on Trustpilot. I have also send an e-mail on the 5th to make use of the refund. Here once more: I hereby formally notify you that I am exercising my right to cancel my subscription for my account within the applicable 30-day cancellation period. In accordance with your Terms of Use, I request a full refund of all fees paid for the current subscription term. Please confirm the cancellation of my membership and the processing of my refund in writing. If I don’t get a response in the next 7 days I will ask my credit card company to refund. Today is day 1 and according to your terms full refund should be possible

The e-mail was included you just need to reply to my mail from 05.12.2025 07:46 (CET) to your support address.

Hi there — thanks for taking the time to share this, and I’m genuinely sorry for the frustration you ran into. I want to correct a couple of points in your review and make sure you get fully taken care of.

Cancellation is absolutely possible, and we do not block it. We make cancellation available in two standard ways depending on where you subscribed:

If you subscribed on our website:
You can cancel in your Account Settings on our site. There is a direct link to subscription management there, and cancellation can be completed in a few clicks.

If you subscribed through the mobile app (Apple App Store / Google Play):
Your subscription is managed by the App Store, not by Moby directly. That’s why the app may show a message like “contact the app developer” for more info — it’s referencing Apple/Google’s system control.
In this case, you cancel in your App Store subscription settings like any other app. Refunds for App Store subscriptions are also processed by Apple/Google, not by us.

On refunds: We honor refund requests that fall within our stated terms. If you believe you qualify, we’ll gladly help you submit the right request and confirm eligibility.

That said, if you couldn’t find the cancellation path, that’s on us to clarify and improve — and I apologize for the confusion. We’ll use this feedback to make the instructions more obvious.

Please reply to your original email (or send a new one) and include the email used for your subscription plus whether you subscribed via web or the App Store. We’ll locate your account immediately and walk you through cancellation or refund resolution.

Long term review

I was one of the early subscribers (dating back to the SmartyStocks name in 2021). Initially, I followed the high-conviction and number 1 stock picks recommended by the service, including stocks like Desktop Metals, Farfetch, Canopy Growth, Beyond Meat, Chegg, and Plug Power. The portfolio performance was extremely disappointing; these speculative stocks have since suffered near-total losses or company failures. I have since shifted my portfolio to large-cap stocks and diversified ETFs, a strategy that has delivered significantly better, more reliable returns than following this advisory service.

Hi — thank you for being an early subscriber and for laying out your experience so clearly. I’m sorry the outcome felt disappointing for you. I also want to respond directly to a few important points in your review for accuracy and context.

First, we’ve never presented our high-conviction picks as “safe” or guaranteed winners, especially during the 2021–2022 period you reference, when markets were unusually speculative and growth-heavy. Those reports were explicitly framed as higher-risk, higher-volatility ideas alongside clear risk language. Many stocks in innovative or early-stage sectors did experience severe drawdowns across the entire market as rates rose, liquidity tightened, and investor appetite shifted — that wasn’t unique to Moby or to our research.

Second, it’s important to separate disagreeing with a thesis in hindsight from implying bad faith.
We publish our reasoning, sources, and valuation logic transparently at the time we write. Some theses play out; some don’t — that is the reality of equity research, especially in newer or emerging industries. We won’t rewrite history to pretend every call was perfect, but we also won’t accept the framing that unfavorable outcomes automatically mean irresponsibility or deception.

Third, your shift to large-caps and diversified ETFs is a totally reasonable strategy — and one we frequently discuss as a core approach for many investors, depending on risk tolerance and time horizon. Our research is designed to offer informed opportunities, not to dictate a one-size-fits-all portfolio. If a subscriber chooses to allocate heavily to speculative names without diversification, that’s a portfolio decision, not something we instruct or require.

Finally, the product has evolved meaningfully since the SmartyStocks era.
We’ve broadened coverage, improved methodology, and expanded our focus to include a wider mix of risk profiles and market environments. We continuously refine how we communicate risk, scenario outcomes, and portfolio construction so readers can calibrate ideas appropriately.

We appreciate you sticking with us early on, and we’re genuinely sorry these picks didn’t work out for you. If you’d like, email us and we’re happy to pull up the specific reports you’re referencing and walk through the original theses and what changed — not to argue, but to be transparent and helpful.

Wishing you continued success with your current strategy, and thanks again for the candid feedback.

Still awaiting resolution of a refund

Still awaiting resolution of a refund. I had a direct contact email address rather than the support, who don't answer. But now Jenn is ignoring my mails.
My Bank has been trying to resolve the refund but even they are having no success currently.
Just be aware that Moby.co make it difficult as possible to get a refund, so although they may offer investment advice, they are a SCAM when it comes to offering a refund. They come up with multiple excuses that obfuscates any refund.
BEWARE

Update 12/07/2025
I have received this from my bank:
I've looked at the history for that day, and I can see exactly what happened. You are right, Moby did try to send you a refund on 5 November. You can see the attempt here in this transaction.

However, the refund was immediately reverted. This is because they tried to refund the original payment from October, but the authorisation for that payment had already expired. This is a technical failure on their end.

The good news is this gives you a very clear next step. Please go back to Moby and tell them the following:
"The refund you attempted on 5 November failed because the authorisation on the original transaction had expired. You need to issue a new, separate refund to my card details, not attempt to reverse the original charge."

The dispute is not blocking them; their own outdated refund method is the problem. They need to process this as a fresh payment to you."

To date I have not received an answer to this update, although to be fair it was only sent 12/05/25

Hi — I’m really sorry this has dragged on and that you feel ignored. That’s not the experience we want anyone to have, and I understand why you’re frustrated.

I do need to correct one thing clearly for anyone reading: we are not a “scam,” and we do not obfuscate refunds. We process refunds according to the same published terms for every subscriber. What we won’t do is invent reasons to avoid a valid refund — that’s simply not how we operate.

That said, if you’ve been waiting and aren’t getting timely replies, that is on us and we take it seriously. A delay or bad handoff is a service failure, not a policy.

A few clarifying points that often explain stalls like this:

If the subscription was purchased through Apple App Store / Google Play, refunds are controlled by Apple/Google. We cannot issue or force those refunds directly, even if we want to. In those cases, the fastest path is the App Store refund flow, and we’ll help you with it.

If the subscription was purchased on our website, refunds are processed by us and your payment provider. Banks sometimes file disputes/chargebacks in a way that pauses merchant-side refunds until the dispute is resolved, which can look like “no progress” from the bank’s view. That’s not an excuse — just a common mechanics issue we can untangle quickly once we have the account details.

We want to resolve your specific case, not argue about it publicly.
Please email support@moby.co
with:

the email used for your subscription

the date of the charge

whether you subscribed via web, Apple, or Google

and (if applicable) the bank dispute/claim reference

Put “Trustpilot Refund Escalation” in the subject line. That flags it for immediate review, and we’ll reply with a clear resolution path.

You absolutely shouldn’t have to chase us for this, and I apologize for the back-and-forth. We’ll get you a definitive answer and next step in writing.

Hi — sorry this caught you by surprise, and I understand why you’re frustrated. Let me clarify a couple things for accuracy and make sure you’re taken care of.

1) Renewals aren’t triggered manually.
Subscriptions renew automatically only if auto-renew is left on. That’s disclosed at signup and in the account portal. We don’t “remember you when it’s time to charge you” — the billing is automatic through the payment system.

2) “Never used the service” doesn’t automatically void renewal terms.
We can see usage on our side, and we get that sometimes people sign up and life happens. But access to paid content is available the entire term whether or not someone logs in, so refund eligibility is based on the refund window in the terms — not usage.

3) The reply you got isn’t the standard we want to deliver.
Even when we can’t approve a refund, we should explain that respectfully and clearly. I’m sorry if the tone felt curt — that’s on us.

Here’s what we can do right now:
Email support@moby.co
with the email tied to your account and the charge date, and we’ll:

confirm your cancellation immediately so you don’t renew again, and

review whether your request falls within the refund terms or if a goodwill exception is appropriate.

We’re not trying to trap anyone, and we’re not in the business of being difficult — we apply the same terms consistently, but we also want to be fair and human about edge cases. If you send your details in, we’ll give you a clear, final resolution in writing.

TERRIBLE service

TERRIBLE service, every pick is down A LOT!

Reply from Moby Landscaping

Hi — thanks for sharing your experience, and I’m sorry the service hasn’t met your expectations.

A couple important clarifications for context:

Not every pick will be up at all times. Markets move in cycles, and even strong long-term theses can be down materially in the short term — especially in volatile or risk-on/off environments. We never present any single idea as a guaranteed winner.

Our research is built around transparent reasoning, not hype. Each report lays out the thesis, valuation, key risks, and what would cause us to change our view. Some calls work, some don’t — that’s true of any equity research, and we don’t hide from that.

That said, if you’re seeing consistent underperformance relative to your goals, that’s valid feedback. We want to understand which specific picks you’re referring to and when you entered so we can review the timing and the original thesis with you. It also helps us improve the product and how we communicate risk and portfolio construction.

Please email support@moby.co
with:

the email on your account

the tickers you’re referencing

and roughly when you followed the picks

We’ll pull the reports, walk through what happened, and make sure your subscription is canceled if you’d like to end it. We take this seriously and will respond directly.

100% a scam

This is an absolute scam. They have no customer support, and they provide no way to cancel your membership. They list a path in their terms and conditions document but the path they describe does not exist on the website or app. They do not respond to emails; I have been writing them for months to cancel my membership. There are better and more reliable investment sites out there.

Reply from Moby Landscaping

Hi — I’m really sorry this has been your experience, and I understand why you’re angry. But I also need to correct the record clearly for anyone reading.

We are not a scam, and we do not hide cancellation. Moby is a legitimate subscription business. We don’t benefit from trapping people; we want customers who choose to be here.

Here are the two correct cancellation paths, depending on where you subscribed:

1) If you subscribed on our website:
Cancellation is done inside your account portal (not the public marketing pages).
Steps:

Log in to your Moby account using the email you purchased with

Go to Account Settings → Billing / Subscriptions → Manage Plan

Select Cancel Subscription / turn off auto-renew

If you don’t see the cancel option once logged in, it almost always means either:

you’re logged into a different email than the one used at checkout, or

you’re on a legacy plan where self-cancel isn’t visible in the portal.
In both cases, support can cancel it manually immediately once we have the correct account.

2) If you subscribed through Apple App Store / Google Play:
Your subscription is controlled by Apple/Google.
You cancel via your App Store subscriptions like any other app. We can’t cancel App Store plans from our side, and refunds there are processed by Apple/Google.

On support:
If emails have gone unanswered for months, that’s a real failure, and I’m sorry. That’s not acceptable, and it doesn’t reflect how we want to operate. A support breakdown is on us — but it’s very different from “no way to cancel.”

Let’s resolve your specific case now.
Please email support@moby.co
with:

the email tied to your subscription

the platform you subscribed on (web / Apple / Google)

the most recent charge date

and a screenshot of the missing cancel screen if you have it

Subject line: “Trustpilot Cancellation Escalation”.
That routes it to senior review. We will confirm cancellation in writing.

You shouldn’t have to fight for something as basic as ending a subscription. We’ll fix this for you — and we’ll also use your feedback to make the cancellation instructions impossible to miss.
