Completely unable to process a simple refund
Similar to these other reviews, but if you want to buy a microsoft product I'd suggest going to a retail store. I bought a keyboard and Surface Pro tablet from the Microsoft Store direct, the keyboard was going to take an additional month to arrive, so I contacted MS Store by chat the day after I'd placed the order, and asked if I could switch it for a different keyboard - they did that, but told me that they'd have to bill me for the additional product, and process a refund. I was given the impression the refund would happen immediately.
A few days later the refund hadn't arrived so I contacted them and was told they couldn't do it. In spite of the fact that the delivery date was still 4 weeks away, they couldn't cancel that part of the order. That means that I have to wait until December for it to be delivered, refuse to accept it, or send it back.
I told them I was really disgusted that the world's major software provider can't process a simple refund, threatened to send the whole lot back, and they said 'sad you feel that way, computer says no'.
It is indicative of how much they actually care about their customers that they're one of the few multinational companies on Trustpilot who have managed to secure a majority of 1 star reviews.
Microsoft doesn’t care about their customers!!!
Played throughout the night and left the room for about 15 min. Started to smell smoke and ran back to the living room to see my Xbox on fire due to the unit's electrical failure. Contacted Xbox and Microsoft - was promised a new unit sent to my home without having to send in the damaged console!
What a great customer service, I thought! So I threw the damaged console away (why should I keep hazardous waste) and waited for a new Xbox! It never arrived though and after a few days I contacted customer service again - you don't get a a new console if you don't send in the damaged one they say, haha!
Been a customer with them for 15 years, if not more. Owned every single console they have released and supported them no matter what and this is how they treat a customer! Very unprofessional and disrespectful! Contacted them again the other day, if they don't do anything I will sue them.

I bought an app from Microsoft store and trying to redeem (because that app request login for using it; this is not advertised on app page, If I would have known, I wouldn't buy it) I discovered that there is no button, link, to redeem. I write to Microsoft store and had to complete a form with some questions, and one of them was a culmination of cheekiness: "how many pages I read" - in my attempt to redeem !!! It seems to me that I need a master degree for redeem on Microsoft store ! I will check if this impossibility to redeem a purchase is legal and act in accordance. Purchased an item that took almost a month to get. No tracking info was provided even after requesting it multiple times. Item was a hat that was so poorly made but wasn't worth dealing with considering their poor customer service.

If I could give a MINUS star I would. I ordered 3 shirts. One NAVY, one BEIGE and one SKY BLUE. The NAVY came right away, was the correct size ordered and was actually a good value. Two weeks later the other two shirts arrived. Both shirts had the size lables cut out and, in fact, were much too small to fit, plus one of the shirts had a ragged dime size hole torn in it. I immediately went to the online return form to get these two shirts returned and replaced. But alas, the online return form is a farce. It DOES NOT work. I tried three times to complete the rather long and tedious form only to have the form state that it was temporarily out of service and went blank - told me to try again later. I believe these two shirts to be either seconds, or returns, simply shipped to me to meet company fulfillment goals. In other words, Microsoft Direct uses a classic 'bait and switch' technique in its online sales program. I do not recommend purchasing anything from Microsoft Direct and issue the following warning to anyone who does: "Caveat Emptor".
No Surface Pro received
Ordered & paid for Surface Pro Computer and insurance. Only the keyboard and pen was received. The delivery was by UPS. It said parcel 1 of 2. Where was parcel 2?
And so the story begins. Microsoft Customer Services are supposed to be investigating this. After many phone conversations it appears Microsoft are doing nothing and they clearly never sent the computer or it was stolen in transit.
While I attempt to sort this out, BE WARNED!!! DO NOT PURCHASE DIRECT FROM MICROSOFT SHOP.

I ordered a ~$2000 surface laptop which got lost in shipping which I ordered in late July via FedEx and Microsoft wouldn't refund me. Furthermore they waited a month to notify that it wasn't coming and then further delayed me in telling that a refund was not going to come, and tried to get me to order another laptop while the issue was getting investigated. I"ve wasted >5 hours on the phone/online agents trying to resolve this, and never any followup from people on their end.

Be careful what you're buying in Microsoft Store especially in games. The package register system does not work as should like when you buy an ultimate edition of game, it does not technically register all editions as "owned" it still makes buyable to buy lower tier of package which is pretty BS. In Steam you can't buy deluxe for example if you already own the ultimate but this is not the case in Microsoft Store. Games work otherwise alright but the store system is terrible. Another example how I feel like I got scammed is that I bought Diablo 4 Ultimate edition in summer but when I checked the game in the store, I only own up to deluxe edition but not Ultimate so this made me think did I get scammed by MS so I need to solve this and try to get back what I really own. Customer service system is also flawed. It is very difficult to contact MS customer service. MS store sohuld also have wasy live chat service if you need urgent help or you have some quick questions.

If I could rate 0 stars I would. Microsoft Store shouldn't even be allowed to do business. They lost my package in June and gave me the run around for months - thank God I used PayPal for the majority of my purchase but I also used a $15 credit from my account. Earlier this week (September) after months and hours of my time spent trying to get my money back they send me an email saying the package was lost and I should contact them to make it right. Of course I contact them and they tell me it's now past the window and I should have contacted them before WHICH I DID. I've contacted them at least 15 times since the first day my package didn't show up when it was supposed to. I provided them tracking & order numbers, every flicking case number they gave me and I really wasted precious hours of my life for nothing. If they knew the package was lost and still wasn't going to refund my credit then why the heck did they email me? I will never purchase anything from them ever again. And I advise anyone purchasing anything from them to be VERY WARY. They are not a legitimate company anymore it feels very much like fraud and a scam - who knows if they ever even had the package mailed in the first place. I highly recommend staying far away from anything to do with Microsoft.

Missing product / no refund
I had ordered an Xbox Elite Series 2 controller on the Microsoft Store. The package never arrived when FedEx/Microsoft's order tracking had indicated it would.
Upon calling Microsoft, they opened a case to locate my package and told me it would take two business days for their internal investigation and they would then contact me with a resolution; the two days came and went and I heard nothing. So I called in again asking for an update and was only then told it would be another TEN business days for resolution.
MS support was 0 help and their hands we're completely tied from performing what I would consider a reasonable resolution of either:
1 - expediting the shipment of replacement product
2 - issuing me a refund so I can go purchase the product from another retailer
Putting the customer on hold, like this, without their money and without their product is an extremely bad customer experience. Other retailers have mastered up to same-day receipt of an online order - I'm currently at 17 days (13 business days) without the product that I have ordered. I'm sure that packages are lost all the time with the amount of packages that they ship, but this isn't a $3000 laptop, it's a $200 controller. More money has been wasted by having me call their support 5 times that what the product is actually worth. I should have just ordered the first time from Amazon who was able to get this product to me the same day I had ordered at the same sale price that was on MS's online store.
Don’t waste your money
Beware! Purchased software (Microsoft Office). Product key did not work for activation. Subsequent communication from Microsoft Store was unprofessional and useless. Suggest to not waste your money.
No refund available for non working app
After purchasing a wallpaper small app without any reviews yet, I discovered it wouldn't work on any of my win10/win11 machines despite being suitable according to the details.
So, simply uninstall and get a refund? It is seems impossible. The closest I got was a mail with dead support links.
It seems that apps and games are non refundable, whether or not they actually work. Only a small amount wasted but Microsoft would do well to copy Google and allow a 15 minute cancellation period.
I won't make another purchase unless there is a good review and if possible will buy elsewhere.
