Disappointed with the online service the app locked me out and I could get no help until Monday morning. Low interest rate compared to other banks, originally joined metro bank because of the opening... See more

We’ve built a different kind of high street bank. A bank with stores that are open when it suits you, 7 days a week. A bank where you can walk in without an appointment and walk out with a working account, debit card and all. A bank that tells you exactly what you’re getting, in language that actually makes sense. A bank that puts you first.

They are generally great
They are generally great - the only issue I have is the timings for bank transfers to other non metro accounts. But as I know that I work with it.
I think they’re great to deal with and it’s easy to speak to a person.
Plus they offer safe deposit boxes - very few banks do that today.
Avoid this bank like the plague
Avoid this bank like the plague ! Disgraceful customer service, not a single person is competent. I had my salary paid into my account on June 24th, 2 days later no funds in my account (£4K plus ). I spent the entire day on Friday 26th calling and spoke to 5 different people. No managers ever available so I drive to my local branch which is 30 minutes from my house, waited 40 minutes because there were understaffed due to the heatwave to get told they can’t override it, I need to wait until the review team release it to me account. I have worked for the same Global wealth management company for 5.5 years, same account. Zero reason to review my salary payment, they could not give me a reason why and have now said the team have gone home for the weekend and hopefully I’ll get it on Monday, 5 days late. I have never been so frustrated or angry with a company. I have no idea how they are still in business but advice is to go to a proper bank like HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds or NatWest . Avoid Metro bank, it steals and holds your money and their customer service is non existent!!
Utterly useless in the fraud…
Utterly useless in the fraud department. They think their policy revokes legislation and regulator policy. The fraud team blocked my card 3 weeks ago the day before I went ion holiday and then asked me for advice of what to do. If this is the case perhaps they can pay me to do their staff's job and how to do it. Then they didn't put the new card details on the app to activate it, but have some how disclosed it to anyone that wants to use it on-line, possibly on the dark web.
AVOID THIS BANK LIKE THE PLAUGE!!!!!!!!
If I could give zero stars i would
If I could give zero stars i would. I had on account with them and then I opened a children's account for my 3 year old toddler. A day later I got a email saying they are going to close my account on the 30/06/26 and I need to withdraw all money. I called them and they said suspected fraud, I couldn't believe it all I do is transfer from my nationwide account so its all genuine transactions. So disappointed. Especially when being wrongly accused of something for no reason.

Do not go near they still your money and never get back hold you when u ask for it be transfered to another account
Stay well clear
Awful for business banking
Terrible bank with zero understanding how certain businesses work. Very old fashioned and take far too long long to sort issues. Regretting my choice of bank
Very poor service and unfriendly staff…
Very poor service and unfriendly staff at Bristol branch.

Very professional service, quick, understood exactly what I needed and got the job done in very short order
Thank you
Account closed the day after I complained — Term 11.2 cited against a vulnerable customer.
Around 8–9 May 2026, following poor service at Metro Bank's Bishopsgate branch (117–121 Bishopsgate, London EC2M 3TL) regarding a faulty debit card, I posted a factual and critical Google Maps review of the branch.
On 20 May 2026, I returned to the branch at about 14:55 I attended Metro Bank, 117–121 Bishopsgate, to resolve a replacement debit card that had not been activated. I spoke to a staff member named Shizad, who became hostile, accused me of not following instructions and raised an unrelated debate about his nationality during the conversation. Hence he deflected and refused to assist me and gave no apology. As I exited on my bicycle, Aziz — a large male employee, later identified as the assistant manager — approached me from behind, shouting repeatedly: "Go! Go, go out of here!" He moved towards me in a threatening manner. When I asked whether he believed he could intimidate people because of his physical size, he replied: "Yes." He then continued outside the branch in broad daylight, screaming and clenching his fists, making threatening gestures. I genuinely feared physical assault. I called the Metropolitan Police immediately. The call lasted 18 minutes (ref: 6136/20MAY26).
On 21 May 2026 at 09:51, Metro Bank emailed me to inform me that my account would be closed on 28 May 2026, citing "following a review" with no further explanation. A paper letter issued the same date cited a breach of Term 11.2 — the clause Metro Bank applies to threatening behaviour, fraud, or illegal account use. I had done none of these things. My formal complaint to Metro Bank was submitted later that same day at 15:20, in direct response to the closure — it was a consequence of the closure, not the cause of it.
I am a vulnerable customer, assessed by the DWP as having Limited Capability for Work due to a mental health condition. Metro Bank's conduct has caused me significant psychological distress.
I have filed a complaint with the Financial Ombudsman Service (ref: PNX-6035096-G2Z7), an ICO complaint (ref: IC-520702-P4Q6), and my Member of Parliament has raised formal enquiries with Metro Bank on my behalf.
I believe the account closure was connected to my Google Maps review and/or the events of 20 May 2026. I ask anyone who has experienced similar treatment from Metro Bank — particularly vulnerable customers — to contact the Financial Ombudsman Service at financial-ombudsman.org.uk. It is free and independent.
Been an account holder for at least 10…
Been an account holder for at least 10 years with little problems. Then recently Metro text me -suspected fraud- account frozen. Impossible to speak to anyone on the phone. I went to Guildford branch and was very fortunate in speaking with extremely helpful senior branch employee who proceeded to investigate. Took 10 days to resolve. THEN bank repeated the fraud process again! My contact was GOBSMACKED as was I. Another 5 days to resolve including me having to speak to fraud department from Metro branch in person. I'm 78 and could do without this stress.
It’s very best service
It’s very best service, she(jharna)explained everything and she gives ideas to open savings account as well and quickly to finish my account. Thank you
A pleasure to deal with the staff
A pleasure to deal with the staff in the Newbury Branch. Really helpful and proactive, can't thank them enough for their assistance.
Great experience opening an account…
Great experience opening an account with Metro in Colchester. They had the right account for our needs and all staff were polite friendly and efficient. Would recommend
I got refund scammed and they sent the…
I got refund scammed and they sent the money back to the scammer then proceeded to close my account. They did not call me, they sent me an email and gave me 24 hours to respond before deciding to close my account I was at work I do not sit on emails all day. Mind you I am on £70,000 a year I have had no fraud claims against me on my account in the 8 years that I’ve been with them. Closed my account over a measly £200 that some jobless bum decided he would chargeback. Use common sense next time. Moved back to Barclays and Lloyds. If I could give 0 stars I would. If you are thinking of opening a metro account stay far away from them. They will cancel your direct debits and will not tell you. This has been the worst bank I have ever been with.
Absolutely useless
Absolutely useless, hard to believe but they get worse and worse every week.
Business banking gets blocked every other week due to suspected fraud. I had a new bank card for my business debit account which requires a signature and half of my suppliers won't accept.
Now trying to raise a bank dispute for goods not received and I'm currently a month into getting passed from pillar to post from one person who doesn't have a clue what's going on to another. They are unable to receive an email from myself with the evidence they requested which means the refund can't get processed.
And to make it all worse theyve reduced their branch opening hours which was one of their only bonuses so now you have to do everything via the Indian call centres
I work internationally and After…
I work internationally and After trading with them for a year, I was away on business and came to find they had frozen my account due to fraudulent activity - after already visiting my local branch and confirming them I would be receiving funds from abroad - the matter took 3 and a half months to resolve with nobody on the ‘help’line that could do anything, forcing me to email countless documents and wait each time for a 5-14 day response (which always can on the 14th day).
To top it off after a few months of inactivity because of the incident, I went into the branch to cash a cheque and was greeted with the information they were closing my account due to it being -£7.64 in arrears,
The customer service was terrible, they send you jumping through hoops and chewing your tail to get access to your own money, as if running a business isn’t hard enough, 1/10 from me, Don’t waste your time….
I’m really shocked I with them over 3…
I’m really shocked I with them over 3 years and yastarday they closed my bank for no any reason 😤
This is probably the worst all-round…
This is probably the worst all-round bank I have used. After 6 months I have had enough of the poor website, awful app and no service outside office hours. Time to close the account. I was promised 1 year of free business banking but have been charged from day 1. Not contactable over the Xmas period. As a business I want access to support every day. As the owner of a business I work every day, not just Monday to Friday, 9 to 5.
In my opinion the worst bank on the High Street.
Don't bother with them.
