  1. Bank

Information provided by various external sources

We’ve built a different kind of high street bank. A bank with stores that are open when it suits you, 7 days a week. A bank where you can walk in without an appointment and walk out with a working account, debit card and all. A bank that tells you exactly what you’re getting, in language that actually makes sense. A bank that puts you first.

Zero is more accurate!

Zero is more accurate!

Metro Bank has given me one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had.

We were instructed by the Luton branch to attend the Hayes branch for a confirmed 4:00 pm appointment to verify our ID. We travelled 30 minutes and arrived early, only to be told the branch was “too busy” and that we might not be seen.

The receptionist showed no empathy and simply told us to complain to the Luton branch. A manager then explained that Hayes was the busiest branch and that Luton should never have booked the appointment. Rather than honouring the appointment or finding a solution, we were told to come back the following day.

Customers should never be caught in the middle of poor communication between branches. There was no apology, no accountability, and no attempt to resolve the situation after we had travelled specifically for our appointment.

A very disappointing first experience with Metro Bank, and certainly not the customer service I expected.

Poor service

Our club have an account with Metrobank. Had taken over as treasurer late 2025. Just been into Tunbridge Wells branch to change address details. Was asked to take a seat and person at a desk would see me. Said person on the phone for well over 10mins. Then stood up walked past us saying nothing and disapeared. No “will be back soon” or even an acknowledgement we were waiting. Generally have been helpful. This time very poor.

Counterparty risk is real amateur stuff

The bank started out as a good alternative to the garbage that the UK market offered at the time. However it is getting increasingly difficult to do even basic transactions without triggering 'fraud alerts' - which freeze transactions until you manually clear them with their credit people. This includes counterparties that have been around for decades and have been linked to the account for years - no risk at all. Unfortunately they have no credit officers available until 9am locally to deal with in a timely manner. In short - they are just way too unsophisticated to handle basic counterparty risk aspects of the business and are getting progressively worse. HSBC has, in this time, become much better at all of this and are worth a shot.

Stay well away

After holding business and personal accounts with several high street banks over the years, I can honestly say Metro Bank is by far the worst.

Their online banking is unreliable, their security and verification processes leave a lot to be desired, and even the simplest tasks can turn into a nightmare. Internet banking regularly stops working, and when you need help, expect to spend 20+ minutes waiting to speak to someone.

If you're thinking about opening an account with Metro Bank, think very carefully first. Read the reviews, do your research, and understand what you're signing up for.

If you haven't opened an account with them yet, don't do it. Stay well away.

This bank is getting worse and worse!

This bank is getting worse and worse!
It was fantastic when it first opened but sadly has dropped below par.
Just tried to open another account and was told I couldn’t walk in off the street, would have to do it on line, even though it clearly tells you “ just pop into the store”
What a joke! Tried to arrange an appointment over the phone and after a battle with AI , finally got through to a person, was told the earliest appointment is a week away!
Must be one busy bank!

Metro bank gave my money to someone

- Money is always taken out via scams
- A banker withdrew £600 from my account and gave it to another client accidentally
- you cannot call for help only through chat
- chat system disorganised
- Sahadeva is a banker who was very rude and did not explain anything to me when I needed help via chat.

What an absolute shambles

What an absolute shambles. We've been trying for over 3 weeks to set up a new business bank account. In branch we were dealt with by what appeared to be a pair of work experience youngsters who had to pop up and ask questions of their seniors every five seconds. Subsequently we were told that they required a load more information and would put the details in an email, which we never received. When we've submitted the required information we get no acknowledgement and are asked for the same information repeatedly. Given up now and will go to a proper bank. We bought into the whole high street branch thing but if this is the quality of the staff in branch, I'd rather chat to a bot.

A bank that’s almost never open.

A bank that is closed three-quarters of the week - including the ‘online’ call centre helpline.

It’s like going back forty years.

Zero help. Zero real person to speak to. Pointless.

Early mornings: no helpline:
Evenings: no helpline.
Nighttime: no helpline:
Saturday mornings: no helpline
Saturday afternoons: no helpline.
Sunday: no helpline.
All weekend: no helpline.
Bank Holidays: no helpline.

There are 168 hours in a week, if you bank with Metro please ensure you don’t actually need assistance during the 123 hours they don’t work.

Don't do it, don't bank with these people, don't belive the PR

As a small businessman I bought into the projected image of a modern bank doing things differently.

After 8 uneventful years MetroBank changed their rules regarding signatories.

Long story short, business account has been frozen for 3 months, I can't access funds but I also can't close the account down.

I'm undecided as to whether my initial point of contact Raja Rantham is actually an A.I. bot because I fairly sure all the email replies were generic cut and paste.

After being given contact details to escalate the case and a long email to that contact ................................................................................................................................................................................................................ silence.

Blinkered, deaf, single minded and autocratic are the polite terms I'll probably get posted .

This is account that has been run in good order, a chartered accountant does the yearly figures, there is no question as to legality of the cleared funds , AML is not an issue and I jumped through all the KYC on account opening . But they could deny access on what amounts to a whim.

I've been covering the business commitments from what I earn from my day job

MetroBank :- The Relationship bank, that's one of the promotional lines .

MetroBank:- A gaslighting Ex partner , would be more appropriate .
