Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 81 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the customer service, describing it as unhelpful and difficult to get proper assistance. They frequently encountered issues with products, including receiving defective items, missing parts, or products that did not perform as advertised. The rebate program was a major point of contention, with many feeling it was misleading and rarely receiving their promised rebates. Additionally, customers were often frustrated by unexpected charges like restocking fees and shipping costs, especially when returning faulty items. However, some people mentioned positive interactions with staff members, finding them helpful and knowledgeable, particularly in specific departments. A few other people also felt that prices were fair and, in some instances, products like snow shovels exceeded their expectations.

Rude and false advertising

First time ever shopping a Menards was in September at Joplin location and girl cashier explained the rebates saying "all purchases are eligible for the rebate program" Jump to November when we made a decent size purchase (2 actually) and after leaving (we live in another state) realized no rebate receipt printed, so I email Menard's asking how we go about completing the rebate, I am emailed back rather rudely that if I didn't get a rebate receipt then the items bought wasn't eligible. I checked online what 'isn't' eligible and nothing we purchased fell into the "not eligible" category. So I emailed a pic of receipt and they responded back that we purchased 3 days after the 11% ended. First of all they are RUDE, 2nd of all the cashier first time we were there stated all purchases were eligible for rebates, did something change since September? False Advertising? Either way we have way to many other Home stores to shop from to deal with Menard's issues.

I spent almost $7,000 on lumber for my new deck addition during their "11%" rebate period back in July. I sent in all the reciepts and forms necessary and still haven't received my rebate. It's been almost 5 months. I sent numerous emails and haven't gotten any reply. I won't be shopping there again.

Menards is a joke will never go back

Menards is a joke will never go back to buy anything from there. Ordered a item they charge for shipping and some type of handling fee as well. I sent email to cancel my order. Get a email back saying they would send a cancellation to whoever. The shipping label was sitting in Menards for 2 days before it ever shipped. Order the item and it was suppose to be delivered the next day. I emailed them back and someone else replied back with the same email that the first person sent me with the request for cancelation. Saying they could not cancel it because the item has shipped. What a Joke. I have emailed them saying I wanted to have a mgr reply back to me which has never happened. Terrible customer service. Save yourself a headache and don't shop at Menards

Shipping and pick up not that much of a convenience when it costs more

Ordering online for shipping or even pick up definitely not worth it. You are charged a fee for them having to collect your items and shipping is not free, it's ridiculous. Pick up is a joke too as you are charged a fee for them having to collect the items you want. Then when you arrive to pick up your items, you have to go all the way to the back of the store to get
your order, items are not bagged, you may as well just go in and get your stuff yourself since the fee is close to ten bucks, I mean unless you are okay with the extra expense, the fact you have to go to the back of the store and retrieve your items that are not bagged for easy carry out. It's sad that you have options that are not actually convenient but costly.

Opened returned package

I bought a touch lamp dimmer/socket . When the package arrived, the dimmer was in an opened package taped back together. It was not much, thought I was surprised that in addition to shipping and taxes, which I expected, there was a processing fee. It is not worth the return cost to get a refund, but never again. I read other reviews and it is not unusual that they sell opened/returned items.

I love menards

I love menards. Im here at least 5 times a month if not more.
I came to menards during my rehabilation learning to walk again that time i was here 5x a week. Now i need the wheel chair to shop. I return it and plug it in. However my chair wad to dead to brinh my product i perchased to my car so i returned my cart to the enterance. The 2 ladies watched my pushing the chair in with my good leg over the floor trim at the door and walked away. It took me a bit to bring the chair in and park it to charge it. As my husband drove to help me carry my items out the one lady came running over very rudley demanding i stop so she can check my items with my reciep. I said no and called her rud watching me drag my csrt around offering no help yet run over to demand i submit to you. Hell no i called her rude pathedic and call 911 im sure the media would get a kick out of it. Shame on her

Excellent Experience

My husband and I experienced the best customer service in the New Philadelphia, OH store yesterday. Anna and Andy's incredible knowledge of the products and ability to instantly connect with us exceeded any of our expectations. Because of their kindness and product knowledge, they helped us to be confident and make solid decisions in a short amount of time. And Austin quickly established a genuine connection with us by generously sharing product/customer experience insight which positively added to our decision making process. Grateful for them!

I spent 10s of thousands of dollars…

I spent 10s of thousands of dollars renovating the exterior of my home only to have the front exterior left incomplete thanks to Menards.com. Prior to selecting and purchasing shutters for my two-story home, I made certain the special order size not carried in-store would be delivered within the timeframe the contractors would be renovating. All other sizes were available in-store. The one pair of shutters for the downstairs picture window were ordered 10/7/2024. The shutters were supposed to be delivered to the store 10/15. Despite leaving multiple voicemails, emails, reaching out to the store, etc. Only to get no reply save someone at the store who told me on 10/18 the shutters be received 10/28. Menards even provided tracking information that showed the shutters were in D.C. Today I received a return call after I reached out to the hauler, that the shipment never existed. I was told they discovered the shutters were out of stock after creating my shipment label??!!! Not one person from Menards cared enough to share this information. Had the shared this information any time in the week following my order which supposedly shipped same-day on October 7, I could have, and would have, selected other shutters. Now I am told the shutters won't be available until mid-January. Contractors are paid and have moved on to other jobs and the middle of winter is really not the best conditions to have drilling on my brick. To be clear, I was told today that Menards knew they did not have my shutters, which show as a charge on my Menards card by the way, since October 7. So, I have a front exterior that looks extremely awkward with all windows shuttered except one. Even worse is the lack of response, ir truthful response, to multiple inquiries. As if this moment, my shutters still show as being " in transit."

Bought kitchen cabinets

Bought kitchen cabinets, flooring, counter top, backsplash, dish washer, etc. Getting the counter top was the worst experience I've ever encountered as a customer. I ordered the counter in July. They had to make the template twice. That took a month. They had to make the counter top SIX times before they got it right.
That took three months. My kitchen and other rooms in my house have been torn up for 7 months b/c of Menards incompetence. My wife has not been able to cook in our kitchen for 7 months. I filed a complaint with Menard's but they refused any consideration for our misery and mental anguish b/c of their incompetence.

MasterCraft door

I special ordered a fire door and then tried to install it in a lower garage that had a concrete block opening. My husband and I had much difficulty in getting it to fit, so we removed the brick molding. We have installed a dozen doors in our lifetime, so are familiar with the process. After the trim was removed, the door went in smoothly. Upon closer review, the brick molding did not have 90-degree angles in the corners, thereby skewing the squareness of the door. This explained why it was impossible to plumb the door into the opening, since the unit was not square with the brick molding attached. A week after it was installed, the plastic sill plate cracked. Menards does not warranty the workmanship of their product, but only offered to send out parts to replace the defective parts. This simple project involved many more hours of work to fix their poor workmanship. The Jeld-Wen warranty offers compensation for any labor required to remedy their workmanship. I did not buy a kit to build a door, but rather a door unit. So, if you want a door that has quality workmanship, do NOT buy a Mastercraft door, which is a subsidiary of Menards.

This is for the watertown wi store

This is for the watertown wi store. Went for help to build a small porch. The lumber desk wouldn't help to tell me what I needed. Went to the service desk and said about the poor service. Got no help there. I sad maybe I should go to home depot. Was told "have a good time." Never will go to any menards again. Ended up at Home Depot had great service and they went overboard to help me.

I usually don’t write reviews

I usually don’t write reviews, but I was so impressed with the customer service I recently received at my local Menards store that I couldn’t resist sharing my experience.

I recently bought a grill and made a note to the salesperson that I needed a natural gas grill. He confidently informed me that they only had one left and that it was the brand I wanted. However, when he brought it down, I noticed that it wasn’t the brand I had specifically requested, as per the Menards website.

The salesperson explained that he had recently sold the last of the natural gas grills I was looking for. But when I reminded him that I needed a natural gas grill, he assured me that all propane grills could be converted with a kit.

I researched the brand online and discovered that it couldn’t be converted. I then called the parent company in Illinois and was confirmed that the brand intentionally manufactures a different model that runs solely natural gas. Unfortunately, the model I had couldn’t be converted.

When I returned to Menards and explained my issue, I spoke to Joan, the hardware manager (Columbus West, Ohio). Joan went above and beyond to ensure that I was taken care of. Her genuine concern for customer satisfaction was truly remarkable. It felt great to be valued as a customer at a big-box store.

After being a loyal customer of Menards’ competitor for all my adult life, this experience has made me a new convert. Menards will now be my go-to store for home improvement shopping.

Love the Stillwater, MN store and employees

Menards has serviced my needs for the better part of 25 years. One house that burned to the ground and many materials helped rebuild. A cabin and homestead in northern, MN as well. Also a few rental properties. Today I was in the Stillwater, Mn location picking up brown treated lumber for decks at my cabin. About 4k in product and long lengths and high volume. Special order 20 ft. were especially challenging. I was helped by John and Nathan with loading what would be about 10,0000 lbs into a large trailer and one ton. I cannot believe how much they helped. But this store in Stillwater has always been great as well as many others. What looked like a terrible job turned into a great experience. John has helped me load multiple loads of 600 bag orders of mulch this last year and was always pleasant and very experienced. All the way around Menard's has been a mainstay for many family projects and has help rebuild a couple of tragedies as well. Thank you.

People on here have no clue

Most of the people complaining on here have no clue and clearly don't leave their house often. The website it super simple. I've received thousands of dollars in rebates without an issue. I would guess that most of the issues on here are self inflicted...

Would give them less than 1 star if…

Would give them less than 1 star if allowed.

I recently bought Spectracide canned wasp killer and used according to directions and sprayed at night. I used the foaming spray on 2 hives and it took the entire can (big hives and one was built into the fascia of my eave). Went outside 48 hours after first application; still had same # of angry wasps. I gave both hives another dose of Spectracide; can ran out again. 48 hours later I still had wasps everywhere. I brought the cans back to the Maple Grove, MN Menards 7 days following purchase and requested refund or store credit for faulty/ineffective product. They refused refund or credit. The manager said if I wouldn’t have used the entire 2nd can, he could have refunded my money in full. I asked him exactly how a customer is supposed to ascertain that a product is ineffective if they don’t follow the instructions on the product label. He repeated that I needed to have left a little product in the can. “We can’t be refunding people after they use the product”. I explained that I am a person of integrity and that I wouldn’t have driven all the way back to the store unless I wanted them to be aware of the Spectracide brand product failure and that frankly, his inference that I was anything but ethical in requesting they stand behind their product, was insulting. He reiterated that he would not help me.

NOW IT HAS BECOME A POINT OF PRINCIPAL FOR ME.

I shared that I have shopped at Menards for 35 years and have spent over $1000.00 there in the previous month alone. I have never made a return to the store. I asked him if he was truly risking losing a lifetime customer for $13 worth of wasp spray and he said “those are your words, not mine”. I stated it differently, “Let me be clear, you are declining to stand behind a product your store sells AND willing to lose a customer for $13.” He again said that those were my words while nodding his head in the affirmative.

(Yes, of course they are my words. I just used them. What did he mean by repeating this identical statement?? Do they teach this phrase in their managerial training program?).

Needless to say, I walked out. I’m disappointed in Menards’ response to my issue. Something tells me John Menard, Jr. would be disappointed too.
