Predatory behaviour through forced auto-renewals

The renewal process of this company is predatory. I bought a pre-paid activation retail code. Upon trying to activate it,you are then forced to provide credit card details for automatic renewal in the hope you forget to cancel your subscription and get hit with an £80 fee. You can not skip this step to activate the product you have just paid for. This is sickening. Not buying a subscription ever again.

I cancelled my automatic subscription…

I cancelled my automatic subscription with Mcafee, yet today they attempted to take £114.99 from my account. I had already cancelled the card due to reading negative reviews. Web searches describes them as having aggressive billing policies. I describe them as fraudsters.

Beware of this company

Beware of this company. I cancelled my subscription before the renewal date -which they acknowledged.
I was shocked and angry that they had the termerity to take a subscription from me for £164. I contacted them and was informed that it would be repaid. Which has not happened. I paid this through PayPal and they were supposed to help me get my money back-which I have now been told has been refused. How do I justice ??

Avoid McAfee

I suggest avoiding this company. I purchased a tablet from Curry's that was on special offer as a present for a relative. Apparently, unknowingly, the "hidden" deal was an annual McAfee subscription. An annual fee of around 110GBP was taken. I complained (on the telephone) to McAfee. The person at McAfee was helpful and cancelled my subscription. However a refund was refused as I was "beyond the 30 day" limit. I cannot complain specifically about the 30 day issue, but I do feel "tricked" into the initial subscription. Probably there was some fine print in the discounted deal that explained it, but as with other similarly devious companies, this was no doubt buried in the blurb, in the hope that that the payee doesn't notice or forgets about it. Unscrupulous? Dishonest? Scam-like? Or purely my lack of diligence? I leave that for you to judge.

I wanted to cancel my subscription to…

I wanted to cancel my subscription to Mcafee which was extremely difficult including 6 months written notice in advance. Having finally got confirmation of my accepted cancellation I turned off 'auto renewal' and uninstalled the program from my computer. 3 months later I found that Mcafee had reversed the 'auto renewal' and taken the money from my bank!! Thankfully my bank sorted it out and I got my money back. However, and the really scary part is the without the program on my computer the still managed to access it!!! Now, all of a sudden I am unable to open many programs and and have sent the computer to be cleaned, I have also asked them to check for any Mcafee interference. This is a disgrace and typical of large organisations bullying the ordinary susciber.

Scammy software - negative stars

How do you give a negative 5. McAffee is the sleaziest scammy software on the internet. I continually remove it, then it appears again. I wish they would finally go out of business so they will leave everyone alone.

They are scammers DO NOT download

They are scammers! I downloaded this software in my Mac however, I couldn't use it against my employer's company software therefore I had to cancel the subscription and get a refund a couple of days after I downloaded. There is no way you can cancel the subscription or get a refund online. When I contacted the customer support, the incompetent agent responded - he kept insisting I have purchased the subscription through "Google pay" which is not true as it is not showing on google pay and I have never used it before. He said McAfee can't get me a refund as it is purchased by google. So I contacted google and of course found out it was not purchased by them as it is not listed! so there is no way I can get a refund after all. Please AVOID as they are scammers and liars.

impossible to remove and cancel…

impossible to remove and cancel subscription. Came with laptop and I subscribed to it, when you want to unsubscribe, the option is not available if you follow the instructions- they make it exceedingly difficult to do so. Customer support email bounces back. Finally was able to do so after chatting a chatbot that connected to a human

Most frustrating is when you are subscribed to it, it keeps defaulting the browser search engine to Yahoo. WHO USES YAHOO in 2025??

Avoid if you value your time and sanity!

Purchased subscription through Amazon but needed to cancel as product didn't work. Amazon said they won't refund so contact McAfee. McAfee eventually agreed to approve my refund and I completed their online form with all of the information and uploaded the invoice. I was told the refund would take 3 weeks. 6 weeks later no refund appeared. When I contacted them on chat, they said they cannot see any refund request their end (even though I had the screen open on my own computer with the case number, all the dates, the invoice, and the status of "Refund Completed")! Seems like my online account has more information than McAfee's systems!? The agent said I had to complete everything again in real-time, even though I had done everything they asked 6 weeks ago. I declined as I did not want to waste my time again. I also tried to call them but was hung up on twice. I eventually spoke to another agent via telephone who told me something completely different - that Amazon will have to give me the refund! When I explained that McAfee had already accepted and approved it, it was like talking to a brick wall, as they said the refund has to come from Amazon. Eventually, I rang my credit card company who refunded it instantly. DO NOT purchase McAfee - if you encounter any problems at all you will regret purchasing it. It is better to pay a bit more for a more customer-centric company as you won't lose your hair dealing with them!

They will only warn you of all the things their subscription doesnt cover to scam you to buy more

I signed up to a 2-year subscription almost 2 years ago. Thank god its almost done so I can leave and switch to a better one. McAfee constantly send pop ups to scare you with all that is wrong with your computer, but then of course none of it is included in their subscription and they seek to charge you a whole lot more than what you already paid them. Customer trust, respect and loyalty needs to be earned and you have lost all three with me. Bye!

Terrible system for so called IT specialists

the renewal code was not accepted and kept taking me round in circles trying to sell me a new subscription - seems like they're more interested in getting your money twice than providing a good service - shame on you McAfee
Took hours to get any help in a stupidly difficult way - back to Avast next year

Annoying scare tactics to sell you more and more every time.

They keep trying to sell you stuff with scare tactics popping up on your bottom right of the screen, i.e.; "Your email was found in 2 data breaches"; "We found 200 apps slowing you down"; "26235 performance issues found"; "We have scanned 7936 pages for trackers"; etc, etc.

They all have different prices and it's always something different. Ever since I purchased my laptop, out of the box, they started trying to scare me when it was a brand new PC with nothing installed...that's how you know what a ripoff McAfee is. I took screenshots of some of their scare attempts just in case I'm asked for it, but they know what they have.

Very sneaky subscription renewal

There renewal subscription is very sneaky. I found out they had taken £129.99 out of my account for five years after I bought a laptop from Dixons. I got the last payment back but she had to pass me on to someone else to authorise the other repayments. They were supposed to call me back but obviously didn’t. They did send me an email saying they had tried which was nonsense. I wouldn’t mind but they were flogging annual cover on their website for £19.99. Just don’t use them.

Worse Than a Virus

Mcafee has come pre-downloaded on the last few laptops I've gotten. It is worse than a computer virus itself. It sends so many pop-ups asking you to renew your protection! Hackers are trying to steal your data! You would think that after 3 years of saying I'm not interested, they would stop sending a pop-up every hour. It will also sometimes change your default search engine to yahoo when the computer restarts. It is such an annoying software, I would never give them a cent of my money.
