Scammers!!!

Scammers!!!
Maggiore (Avis, Budget) company is meanly robbing its own customers! I was surprised that a company with such a name (Avis), in the center of Europe can commit fraud in broad daylight! I just couldn’t believe it. I rented a car for a day at the Maggiore (Avis, Budget) rental office at Catania Airport (Italy) without prior booking. After signing the contract and inspecting the car, the employee issued an invoice for 50€ for renting for 24 hours and + a deposit of 250€, claiming that the deposit is not debited from the account, but only frozen for the duration of use and unblocked upon return of the car. But when paying, oddly enough, the amount of 300€ was debited from the account in full - in one single payment. The next day, after a detailed inspection, the employee accepted the car with a full tank, concluding that everything was in perfect order and the deposit had already been unfrozen and should be returned to the account within 3 working days. Then, for two months, correspondence with the Maggiore (Avis, Budget) customer support service continued, which apologized for the inconvenience and assured that in incorrect cases the amount could be returned longer, up to 14 working days, or at most up to 30 working days... By this time, I had already read enough reviews about the Maggiore (Avis, Budget) company. It turned out that in the reviews of the Maggiore (Avis, Budget) company, users regularly encounter similar fraudulent schemes, especially in Italy. I contacted my bank for help, provided a statement showing that the amount of 300 € was written off in one payment, the deposit amount of 250 € was not written off separately and was not frozen. After that, the support service stopped responding to my letters. My bank also repeatedly tried to contact the head office and the support service of the Maggiore (Avis, Budget) rental office, but to no avail. Beware of this group of companies, who will lie to you until the very end and reassure you that the money is about to be returned, exhaust you with waiting, and then simply stop responding. Maggiore (Avis, Budget) - scammers, deception, theft, the worst experience!

I hire from Avis / Budget / Maggiore at…

I hire from Avis / Budget / Maggiore at least 3 times a year at their Pisa Airport branch. I always find the staff helpful and never pushy regarding excess insurance. I have over 40 hires with them and never had any issues, at drop off the staff do a quick walk round ( looking for obvious damage ) and check that fuel is full. I would highly recommend this company if hiring at Pisa.

Absolutely SCAMMED us out of a £300 deposit. When we handed back the car they pointed out a tiny scratch that was already there and we had photo proof of it before. They added £80 on top because of this and didn’t give the whole deposit back. DONT RENT WITH THIS COMPANY

They refused to give us a car

They refused to give us a car, saying that our documents did not match. Although I checked the website, everything was correct. We asked for the head manager, some parking attendant came. He said that he was the head manager. I asked him to introduce himself, but he refused to give his first and last name with a grin.

BEWARE!!

BEWARE!!! Do not rent cars from Maggiore.we rent a car in turin and got a puncher. No spare wheel were provided inside the car. No one answered the phone. Roadside assistance was a nightmare to answer. Ended up arriving late at the airport. There was a customer care man who collects the car keys after you drop off the cars and started insulting us and saying that he didn't mind that we arrived late. He charged us money for arriving late at the airport. NOT RELIABLE AT ALL. additionally when he was told that we are going to give a bad review, he claimed "Go ahead you are not the first customer"

Biggest crook and thieves I have even…

Biggest crook and thieves I have even seen, despite having videos of the car been returned in very good condition Maggiore car company in Rome Italy charged me £231 without my consent, after proving it to them and backed it up with the videos and photos they ignored me and basically stole my money. I learned afterward that they do this to all foreigners because they know we leave Italy on the returning car date. I will chase it up and try to close this company, I have contacted the ministry of transport in Italy.

I would not trust or recommend

I recently rented a vehicle from this company at Malpensa Airport. Although the car was a plug-in hybrid, it was provided with the battery completely depleted, limiting the advertised hybrid functionality. Additionally, the car’s tires appeared visibly worn, raising safety concerns from the outset.

Upon returning the car on time and in perfect condition (to my knowledge), I was shocked to find an unexplained charge on my credit card. This charge was applied without my prior consent or any supporting documentation. The only record I could access was an invoice on their website, which simply listed the word "damages" next to the amount of almost €700, without any specifics or breakdown.

When I called customer service for clarification, the representative could not provide any details and only offered to “escalate” the issue to their damages department. This entire experience has been marred by a lack of transparency, unclear policies, and poor communication. Given these issues, I would not trust or recommend this company for future rentals

Systematic scam, contract change without my conscent

Beware about them changing the contract without your permission just before signing!

They slipped in a pre-paid fuel charge at the last minute on a contract I had already finalized online. When I pointed it out, they claimed that if I returned the car with a full tank, I wouldn't be charged for the pre-paid fuel—but that’s a LIE!! You still have to pay for the pre-paid fuel, and they don’t refund the fuel in the tank.

Essentially, you're getting charged twice + tax for something you never asked for

This isn’t the first time I've had pre-paid fuel added without my knowledge by the Maggiore/Budget/Avis group in Italy. It seems like a systematic tactic by the company.

Stay alert!

We booked the car through the site.

We booked the car through the site.
Came to pick up at train station of Bari and here we go. I did not had credit card, we asked to add second driver my friend who had the credit card but it was not possible. Ok, we decided not to destroy our holidays and to make new booking with details of my friend, but again credit card must be issued the same country with driving license ..... First time we heard something like that. Also staff was not helpful at all! We took car with different company and strangely they were ok what driving license from one country and credit/debit cards were from other. Just to remind you we are in European Union and some people can work and leave in different countries !

Do not rent from this company. They will rip you off.

Do not rent from this company. Their behaviour is fraudulent and they will rip you off. I have rented cars all over the world including many times in Italy and have never had an experience like with Maggiore. Sorry this review is a bit long, but I hope it provides some insight into what could happen to you if you rent with them.

I rented the car in Sardinia. When I returned the car at Alghero airport, the attendant in the car park directed me where to park and advised me to leave the keys in the car. His instructions were very clear and unambiguous. I then had a conversation with the attendant and 2 of his colleagues in the Maggiore booth in the car park – they were all aware that I had returned the car and had left the keys inside, as instructed.

Several days later and once I had left the country, they charged 218 EUR to my credit card. They didn’t send me an invoice or make any effort to contact me, they just did it, presumably hoping that I wouldn’t notice the charge on my statement.

Upon calling Maggiore, at first they had no record of the charges. It took weeks and numerous follow-ups to finally get an explanation. They claimed that I had returned the car 4 days late and had been charged accordingly. When I explained that this was incorrect and that I had returned the car on time, they asked me for proof such as a boarding pass showing when I had departed. I provided the evidence as requested. Their strategy then changed and they claimed that I should have returned the keys to the desk, rather than leaving them in the car as I had been instructed to do. As a result, they supposedly did not find the car in their own carpark until 4 days later. What a joke.

There are so many suspicious elements to this situation:
• They did not provide me an invoice for the additional charges. They just charged my card and didn’t tell me.
• They did not have a record of the charges on their system. It took weeks for them to investigate and confirm what the charges were for.
• It supposedly took them 4 days to work out that the vehicle was in their car park. Surely a company like this, owned by Avis/Budget, would have systems in place to alert them where their cars are and when a car is not returned.
• They did not try to contact me at any time to understand why I had supposedly not returned the car, or to discuss the additional charges.

I’ve spent many frustrating hours trying to get this resolved, but the Maggiore representative Veronica refuses to accept that I was advised to leave the keys in the car and refuses to refund the unauthorised charges. Unfortunately, they know have you over a barrel. I have notified my bank that this is a fraudulent transaction and hope to get resolution that way.

Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

Avoid these scammers

From the begining it looked good, but after we return the car they charged us 40€ for not bringing the full gas tank. But I already pickud it up with 3/4 full, which was also described in the contract. I tried to send them emails and calls, but they are just ignoring me. Avoid this!

It was one of the most bad experience for me.
i gave backe the Car in Napoli Airport and the person who was responsible for receiving the car has control everything and also the Tank level because i had filled the tank completely and he has confirmed that everything is fine and there is no damage and the tank is Full . But next day i realised that they have charged me 15 Euro for 3 Liter Gasoline!!
15 Euro is not that much money and it dosen't make me poor but it is absolutely pathetic if someone do such thing!!!
i don't know if manager of this company read my this but i writ my contract number in order to contact me 135630913

Never!!! Too bad to be real!!!

Very negative experience. My credit card was charged with more 351 € without any explanation, having total insurance (including glasses), and leaving the tank full. I cannot get any explanation from the company. Thus. I was stollen. I will never consider this company in the future. Moreover, this is a AVIS division, but under Italian rules...NEVER, NEVER, NEVER....

Complete scam

Complete scam

We had to drop off the car/keys before the offices were open as our flight was early in the morning. They said this was fine and they had a drop off box for customers who had early flights.

When we landed we found that we had been charged hundreds of pounds for damages to the car (very blurry photos were sent to us ad proof). We took our own photos and videos of the car and it was returned in perfect condition.

We have logged several complaints and have had no communication whatsoever from them. Complete and utter scam - do not rent with this company!!!
