The hotels and breakfast were on the whole very adequate. The one hotel and breakfast which was not was in Melide at the Hotel Xaneiro. This was a poor choice. The room we were given (although very clean) was in a state of disrepair; there was little help at the front desk when we checked in; there was no help at the front desk when we checked out; and the breakfast at the Hotel consisted of nothing more than a piece of toast and coffee. This was in sharp contrast to the hotel in Palas De Rei (the Hotel Case Benilde) where both the room and the breakfast were very excellent.
We loved our Rota Vicentina hike! We chose to wear our favorite walking shoes, the HOKA Clifton, along with lightweight ankle gaiters, and those combined made for a comfortable and very little shoe sand hike! The views are incredible! The towns were interesting. The lodging was just perfect. Each stay was comfortable and either had the basics, or even were quite nice! Those that included breakfast allowed us to start each day fully satisfied and ready to go! We felt each day had a little different kind of hike, so the full hike was very interesting. There were definitely some challenging ups and downs. Either due to the loose rocks or steep slopes. Taking it one step at a time is the key. Same goes for the sand. But we always made it to our destination in reasonable time and still had energy to explore the town. A lovely experience!
Our Ridgeway walk went so smoothly, thanks to MacAdventure’s efficient organisation. All our accommodation were well chosen, with welcoming staff and great food. The walk itself varies from high ridge with stunning views, to sunken woodland tracks, to riverside paths.
Although some of the walk was challenging to was awesome to end each day with great accommodation and our bags there ready and waiting, the highlight ending in Odeceixe staying at the beautiful Casa do Minho. The trail was easy to follow with markers throughout.
A week just spent walking the Fyfe Coastal Path in Scotland. Wonderful week blessed with glorious weather, amazing views and a few real challenges !!
The accommodation was, as always, really comfortable and welcoming. A couple if the days were far mire challenging than I thought they were going to be especially the mini mountain that appeared just before Ruby bay , Elie!! Wow, the coming down was , for me, very scary but I managed it and had a lovely drink at the Ship inn to settle my nerves!
The tide was against me for most days and alternative routes had to be taken as the beaches were covered in deep water but it was not difficult to find the routes with the info from Macs.
Great week, beautiful walks , loved it!
I would rate these hikes as moderate and not easy to moderate. We just did Cinque Terre I thought they were very difficult. Some of the accommodations were not that great. I think all hotels should have air conditioning.
The helpful crew at Macs ensured that our West Highland Way walk could be enjoyed, safe in the knowledge that luggage transfer, accommodation and additional support were all taken care of. Any requests that we had (such as booking an extra night at Fort William and providing helpful advice on an itinerary to suit our needs) were met with great, friendly communication and efficiency. The Macs app is also a cracker, adding another dimension to our walk. Could not recommend Macs highly enough and we will definitely use them again.
We loved the Cotswold Way trip with Macs Adventures! Moving our bags was seamless. Our inns were nice with great local feel. We had one problem with taxis and the Macs team helped us solve the problem quickly. We are already planning our next hiking adventure with Macs Adventure!
Great Trek Alta Via 1 North - Easy to navigate, great accommodation in local refugios. Would love to do other Dolomites treks with Macs Adventure
Three of us had a wonderful time walking the WHW,
At no time did we get bored, the surface varied as did the scenery, starting with gentle parkland and woodlands through the experience of the Loch Lomond stretch to the magnificent Highland views from the old drove ways and military roads.
We never had any worries about the organisation of the trip. Macs did it all, booked accomodation, arranged baggage transfer, and kept us upto date through the app, complete with offline maps.
All we had to do was walk, eat, sleep and repeat...just what a walking holiday is all about.
My wife and I recently hiked the Amalfi Coastal Trails in September 2023 and couldn't have had more fun. Mac's Adventures certainly made the week easy choosing accommodation in convenient locations which served beautiful buffet breakfasts, often overlooking stunning scenery. As a tourist in another country, the convenience of having our bags transported between hotels was worth its weight in gold.
The hiking itself was fabulous. We are fit individuals in our early 40's and enjoyed the range of difficulty that each hike presented. The app with interactive GPS map and instructions proved useful on a number of occasions. It's easy to highlight the Path of the Gods but we really enjoyed Scala and the Valle delle Ferriere and climbing Mount Tre Calli which offered 360 degree views of the region.
We are already planning our next hiking holiday with Mac's Adventures!
Great hike and very well organised by Mac Adventures
Ensure though your luggage is no more than 20 kg they are very strict and charge a lot for storage
Check you schedule carefully as some days we could have walked longer and other days shorter
The trip was very well organised and generally the standard of accommodation booked for us was very good. This was a self-guided walking holiday that Macs Adventures had arranged for us. The one thing we would say is that the distances we had to cover to reach our next stopover were rather optimistic given that we are still novice walkers. We would add that the Company provided us with great support which we needed on one occasion but sadly their local partner was not so responsive when we needed help. Macs Adventures took over and liaised with one of our stopovers very satisfactorily. We would not hesitate to use them again.
Everything went to plan, all luggage transferred and hotel bookings in place.
From the minute we booked with Macs everything was perfect. The setting up of an account, the details of the Hadrians Wall walk, the paperwork, the app (a must so you don't get lost), the accommodation, regular updates prior to departure. Everything was brilliant. At 71 years of age I needed peace of mind and I made a great choice with Macs Adventures. Highly recommended.
All the support material, the Macs app and all the lodging places, except one, were great. The lodging in Roundwood, The Coach House, was not staffed, the information that was taped on the window was inaccurate and there was no breakfast the next morning. We had to ask for help from another local business and then wait for almost an hour before a worker showed up with keys to our room.
The hike was great! The B&B’s and their hosts were all phenomenal. They were of great help as I bruised my fibula and got a horrible cold. They kept the ice coming and a pan to soak my blistered feet as well as the name of a good chemist.
The days were often longer than initially printed on the map and at times it we would go for a long time with no directional signs. Thank goodness for GPS.
The high route views were stunning, but it did not have the diversity of the WHW. Still, it was pure joy to be back hiking in Scotland, knowing that we were in good hands with Macs!
Great support from MACS! Our bags arrived timely at each location and the hotels booked were lovely! Maps were great (except for one snafu). The hikes selected were amazing and provided for a wonderful, memorable experience. I plan to travel with MACS again.
Everything just worked perfectly, all the accommodations and support was excellent and our experience doing this hiking was the best possible.
The Coast to Coast is a wonderful adventure! While there is no technical climbing involved it does require a level of fitness to withstand some pretty steep climbs during almost all segments of the path. It is a popular walk but we never felt crowded. I was most pleased with the comraderie that forms with the relatively small number of hikers that are moving on your schedule. There were many happy reunions in village pubs along the way and at the end in Robin Hood’s Bay. And MACS Adventures did a fabulous job of coordinating all stays in the B&Bs and inns as well as luggage transfers. Painless!!
