Duped Pensioner

Home owners with roof problems, BEWARE of MACCLESFIELD ROOFTOPS, roofing specialists?!

This company re-roofed my terraced slate roof in late 2024. A huge thing for me to afford.
When they came out to assess the job and hear my concerns they seemed friendly and attentive to all and their website seemed professional with photos of certification/ membership of the Guild of Master Tradesmen.

But from the outset there were problems with scaffold dates (and placing of) and the job start date. There was little communication. And things agreed upon had been forgotten. They turned up late each day and always a different time. The 'boss' had very little input apart from dropping off two very young men and collecting them. I thought one lad seemed hard working but then chunks of my ceiling started falling in. I wasn't forewarned this might happen. They placed a ladder over my neighbour's front door! And left nails everywhere which I ended up having to clear each day, as it was a public footpath. There were other incidents that I won't mention here, that left me feeling distinctly uncomfortable and disgusted.
By the time I realised hiring Macclesfield Rooftops was a mistake, my old roof was already off and I had no choice.
Once the roof was finished (they offered to come and patch up my ceiling but instinct made me decline!). The whole period was VERY stressful!
At payment time, £6,000, their communication became extra efficient. Said they could not release my guarantee until payment made. I paid promptly. Have never received my guarantee! (Not that it would be worth anything!)

I have learned that the membership to the afore mentioned professional association is NOT true.

And now I see they are boasting an award from ThreeBestRated!?

I've since been told by other roofers, because I now have water getting in, that the whole roof is sub-standard, has not been done correctly above or below. Slates are incorrect sizing and type (not as agreed) AND battens have been installed incorrectly.

I have sought advice with Trading Standards/Citizens Advice. If I had the energy, time and money to persue this rogue company for reimbursement I would and am still considering this. But I really feel they should not be free to trade to this substandard level and be blatantly misleading customers with their credential claims! I see others have fallen foul of Macclesfield Rooftops, so I can only join them and do this right now..to warn others.

Appalling Behaviour

When arriving at Tesco Express in Congleton I found a Macclesfield Rooftops lorry parked in the disabled bay. I have a physical disability as does my friend who was with me. The Rooftops vehicle was sitting with the engine idling and a young man in the driving seat. When I challenged him about being parked there he became combative and claimed that he had every right to be there. When a member of staff came out and challenged him telling the man he had called his company he became abusive. The Tesco worker said that he had been parked there for nearly an hour with the engine idling. If you don't want rude, abusive people who think they are more important than the people who have the right to use disability bays please don't use this firm. Disgusting.
UPDATE. THIS COMPANY ON ITS WEBSITE AND FACEBOOK PAGE CLAIMS TO BE A"TOP 3 RATED" APPROVED FIRM. TOP 3 RATED WERE VERY HELPFUL AND DISAVOWED ANY CURRENT LINKS TO MACCLESFIELD ROOFTOPS AS THEY FAILED THE 50 POINT INSPECTION. SO ADD MISREPRESENTATION TO THEIR LIST OF FAILINGS.

Inadequate refund, poor quality work, much chasing, left significantly out of pocket

Failed refund 2024 for Very poor quality roofing work April 2023,letting rain in through the roof which brought the ceiling down October 2023. Poor responder to contact attempts. Had to get another roofer to remove their work and replace it to stop the leaks. The new roofer listed significant mistakes made by Macclesfield rooftops. Macclesfield rooftops website falsely claimed membership of craftsmans guild (Trading Standards and the Guild confirmed this to be fake at that time). We found the Macclesfield rooftops 10 year warranty to be worthless. We won't use again. Previous customers may want to consider getting their work inspected. Agreed refund incompletely paid 2024 after much chasing, so left significantly out of pocket by this experience

Bonus leaks with your new roof! AVOID!

Took over a month to complete a re-lay on a small end terrace. Started work at 10am, finished at 12 noon. Discarded cigarette butts everywhere, dropped a stone roof flag through our bathroom ceiling, neighbour called the police on them when he caught them snooping around a derelict property adjacent to his.Re-layed roof leaks badly. Contacted them over and over and over. Finally got a response after posting a review. The promised to attend but 'could we please remove the review' so we did, and POOF! They disappeared! What a surprise! They claimed to have fixed it when we weren't home, they didn't. Over a year later we are still chasing, still have water running down our bedroom wall every time it rains. AVOID!
