Malta Airline is a scam
Malta Airline is a scam. No clear baggage Information extra charge for luggage already paid in full. Luggage opened upon arrival.
humiliated by something I paid for and had to pay for again BY CARD
On November 17th, I took a flight from Malta to Madrid Barras and was extremely humiliated by an attendant at the Malta boarding gate. I had already paid for the luggage when I bought the ticket, but I didn't check at check-in that the luggage should have been checked in. I was only informed at boarding that I should have checked the luggage in the hold, and they charged me an EXTRA fee for a bag I had already paid to take with me. Up to that point, okay, because I acknowledge that I was wrong in wasn't paying attention, and I was asked to pay for the bag again. However, I only had the money in cash, and the attendant humiliated me, saying I wouldn't be allowed to board unless I paid the required amount EXCLUSIVELY BY CARD. I didn't have any money on my card at that moment. I filmed that irritating woman humiliating me, telling me to get a card or I'd have to travel without the bag I'd already paid for. I had 2,000 euros in cash in my hand, and she was treating me like a beggar, preventing me from paying in cash and preventing me from boarding. A completely unprepared woman! Cash is accepted everywhere in the world, but that ***** wouldn't let me board because she demanded payment BY CARD! This is a total abuse by the airline! In the end, someone in line took pity on me and used their card to pay for the bag AGAIN!
Flight delayed for 2 hours 40 minutes…
Flight delayed for 2 hours 40 minutes no communication lost money on pre booked buses and trains
Worst company ever
Flying from Orly to Malta was great…
Flying from Orly to Malta was great even tho the seats aren't comfortable; however when flying back, after check in, the queue for boarding was a mess, they kept checking and blocking the queue to make people pay extra for luggage; after boarding the flight attendant (a man) was super rude to me and really bothering me about my tiny hand bag to put it in the overhead cupboard even went to threaten me to remove me of the plane for a hand bag that is litterally 15x9x3cm!!!
Run away
Awful costumer service, impolite staff and high prices. Planes are uncomfortable and for the price you pay, they don't even give you a small bottle of water.
I will avoid this airline in the future as much as I can.
“Charged €110 for luggage already included — unacceptable!”
We were charged €110 at the airport for luggage that was already included in our Thomas Cook booking. KM Malta Airlines claimed the travel agent hadn’t paid their fees, even after we showed proof of payment and our booking receipt. We had no choice but to pay to board. This feels completely dishonest , we’ll be pursuing a refund and warning others to double-check before flying with them.
No food, no compensation
I travelled business class with KM Malta. First, it's impossible to login to the website to choose a seat or change your meal selection. The only number available for them is in Malta, which is useless if you are based overseas. After trying multiple channels - email, twitter (they take days to respond, if they ever respond) I managed to get a hold of someone. Ordered my special meal. Board the plane. No special meal. So now I'm stuck on a plane, without food. Nothing offered onboard as an alternative. By the time I completed my journey it had been 12 hours without food.
Mistakes happen but their customer service is dreadful. We went back and forth on email for months with them asking me lots of questions. The result. No compensation. Despite the fact I paid for a service I didn't receive.
Final insult is the flights were always delayed, so beware if you have another connection.
Would not recommend.
Pirate Airways
Pirate Airways,
scamming extra bagage payment,
positively aggresive airport staff,
miserable air crew, and uncomfortable seats on plane
without doubt the most unprofessional airline I have ever encountered
Will never use again charged twice for…
Will never use again charged twice for baggage (paid before travel and again upon arrival as it was not on there system) unable to get a refund as yet as having to contact there customer services
No leg room in seats
Very budget however turned out to be expensive due to added extras
less than 1
less than 1 , Beware of booking KM Malta flights as they overbook flights, change destinations and times. They overbooked my Malta/Heathrow flight and I was bumped of the flight and put in a disappointing noisy hotel
with a 4.30 am pickup the next day. KM Malta also changed my Malta to Heathrow return flight to Gatwick/Malta on the return leg. If I can avoid it by taking a different airline, I will never fly KM Malta again.
Purchased an Economy Value ticket which…
Purchased an Economy Value ticket which includes a small bag and 10kg cabin bag. On the way home we suddenly had to check-in our bags which a member of staff conveniently pointed out just after the check-in desk had closed. No one had told or charged us in London Stansted on our way to Valetta. And if the airline would make it clearer during booking/check-in and it was understandable for all passengers, surely they would not have to employ a member of staff who walks around with a card machine at the gate… won’t book with them again!
Maybe we were just lucky.
I've read the numerous poor reviews, many of which relate to unexpected baggage charges at check-in. However, we had nothing but a great experience. No queues at check-in either end. Staff at check-in were very polite and helpful, cabin crew were too. Aircraft were clean and seats were fine. Flights were on-time both ways. All in all, a faultless round trip to Malta from Heathrow. Maybe we were just lucky.....
Fully refundable doesn't mean fully refundable
An Economy Flex ticket (the highest cost ticket) was purchased from Paris to Valetta, Malta and was described as fully refundable. Subsequently, my itinerary changed and I changed the ticket to traveling from London to Valletta, Malta. Because the departure city changed, I was instructed by KM Malta to cancel my original ticket and book a new ticket. Which I did. Since I had a fully refundable ticket, I anticipated a full refund. After contacting the airline, I was informed there was a 34 Euro (approximately $40. USD)per ticket processing fee.
While I felt change of departure city was more a change than a full cancellation, I can understand how they might charge some fee. But $40 per ticket seems excessive. More importantly, I think their advertising and website are deceptive and misleading. I paid extra to buy a "fully refundable" ticket. But it wasn't "fully refundable" at all. Bad business practices such as this reflect poorly on KM Malta.
Baggages policy not clear
Baggages policy not clear. At the end the charge you always more for the baggage

I booked a cabin bag but online it was stated that it was checked bag and got charged 55 euros for it.
Uncomfortable seats
Check in was fine but the seats on the plane were very uncomfortable, hard and upright. Refused permission to use toilet at the front of the plane as it meant going through the half dozen business seats area despite a queue (not surprisingly) at the rear.
Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service. No way to contact head office apart from in person at the airport in Malta. Mixed up passengers names on the booking emails.
Incompetent and conflicting customer service
Hidden and unreasonable luggage charges
We booked return tickets for London - Malta. They charged luggages at the boarding desk in Malta and suggested it was the error on the UK side. We had no choice but to pay. There were more than 10 groups of passengers faced the same issue. They also double booked some seats...
Unreliable airline
Luggages get lost, flights are constantly delayed and customer service is nearly impossible to get.
One star for decent food in business class.
They will charge you for EVERY little mistake
Be EXTREMELY careful not to get confused about their fares and to make a mistake. They will charge you for EVERY little mistake. Never flying with them again.
We flew for the first time with KM Malta Airlines and ran into a problem straight away. Never happened to us before.
We had booked and paid for two 10kg bags (and brought only one) but their employee at the boarding gate informed us that we should have checked it in. He asked us to pay an extra 25€. As a reason he stated that the aircraft cabin was too full. Other airlines offer to check in your bags for free if the airplane is too full. Also, contrary to his claims, when everybody had boarded, the hand luggage compartment in our seating area was at least a third if not half EMPTY. We have pictures to show it. It would have easily fit our trolley.
We booked our flights more than a month ago, and booked several flights in the meantime, so it may well be that we didn't remember every single detail. Neither during the online check-in, or on the boarding pass were we reminded to check in our bag. We did not assume it possible to be worse than RyanAir but even that company states clearly on the boarding pass what kind of luggage you booked and where it belongs. Also the e-mail with our boarding passes didn't arrive in our mailbox.
Their fares are not very intuitive. We were expected to check in a cabin trolley (size and weight of what is usually hand luggage). Also the check-in process on mobile phones is not clear: we were shown that we had to complete 7 steps to check in, but the process was finished after three. The mail with our boarding passes didn't arrive. We took screenshots instead. We would have had no problem checking in the bag if we had gotten a reminder. We may well have mixed something up by no ill intent, but their employee didn't even give us a trace of the benefit of the doubt. He also didn't let us go back to the checked bag counter. Confusion and mistakes can happen to everybody, especially when flying with an new airline with non-intuitive fares for the first time. Their employee however showed not the tiniest shred of leniency at all. Asking for an extra fee when we had already paid seemed like a cash grab. It's not like we didn't pay for our bags, but we brought them to the wrong place due to travel troubles. We REALLY had BETTER experiences with low-cost carriers like Ryanair and Wizzair, NEVER had a problem with them, even with how bad their reputation is. KM Malta Airlines was our WORST experience so far, the company shows no goodwill at all.
We also had several people with the same problem at our gate. Also we heard from other people that they charge 10-20€ for even just 1kg of extra weight in your luggage.
What was supposed to be a nice end to our vacation left us with a bad memory.
We even contacted customer support and showed them pictures of the half empty hand luggage storage. They acted nice and were sorry about our inconvenience. They made us send them our receipt of the extra fee but in the end confirmed that their employee acted correctly. It's probably supposed to be an "administrative cost" as their luggage handlers had to take our small trolley. The thing is, there would have been no extra work and "administration" involved if they just let us take our suitcase of board and store it in the half empty overhead storage. They chose to make themselves have extra "work" and charge us for it. We understand that it was a mix-up on our part but it would have been easily solved by showing some goodwill. Which they don't have.
This was our FIRST time flying with KM Malta Airlines and it will be the LAST.
