Rude indifferent staff one I would say…

Rude indifferent staff one I would say stands out for her completely rude and awkward manner.
We had an after Christmas meet up at the Cat and Lion in Stretton there was 6 people in our group the pub was emptie in the restaurant so we sat at a large round table. That was only one other person in the room so while everybody was looking at the menu, I went to the bar to order the drinks. I asked the girl politely if I could start a tab as everybody hasn’t decided what they wanted to drink and also I had some vouchers which we have been given before Christmas to use in December in January and how was the best way to order with these vouchers? She didn’t look up she just said we don’t have tabs and you can only use one so I said is it possible then we order the food separately so she said no it’s all on one tab on one table so I said you’ve just said we can’t have a Tab and she said no, you can’t so none of it really made sense. She was never once did she make eye contact with me it was just as though I was annoying our bill came to £98 and I asked if she could split it three ways she said no she could only split it two ways I asked if I could use the voucher she said no you can only use one so I said I asked you at the beginning if we could use the voucher and would it be best if we all ordered separately and she said no I didn’t say that well whether she did or whether she didn’t I know it she did say I also know she was really rude. I also know that there is a manager there at the same time. She just totally ignored her behaviour. The only good thing about the visit was we had a beautiful little waitress about 17 years old I would think who tried to really make the evening pleasant she served our food and asked us how we were doing and did everything she could. I would say she’s probably one of the best members of staff. The food wasn’t great. We’ve had a lot better. We will not be going there again.

The Woodthorpe is NOT a welcoming family pub in Prestwich

Joseph Holt Brewery describe The Woodthorpe pub in Prestwich as “a welcoming family pub in Prestwich”. IT IS NOT.

On Thursday 4 December myself, family and friends all attended a Jewish funeral in Prestwich for my aunt who had passed away two days before. My aunt was Jewish and as is the tradition in the Jewish faith she was buried within 48 hours of her passing. With the funeral taking place so quickly the immediate family were very much focused on the actual funeral arrangements and getting friends and family there at short notice. They did a marvellous job pulling it all together but did not have time to think about a wake afterwards. So, after the burial a spur of the moment decision was taken to head to the nearby Woodthorpe on Bury Old Road, where people could get a drink and some food (some had travelled from Scotland that morning). That was all fine until we got into the pub. As we looked around for somewhere to sit we were informed by staff in the pub that they were very busy and had no table(s) available. There was however a big table in the window of the "adult only" room that was free but we were informed that because we had teenage young people with us the table was off limits. A few of us explained to the staff (and then the manager) that we had just been to a funeral and simply needed somewhere to sit and reminisce together over a drink before going our separate ways. I had no doubt the staff would show some compassion and let us all sit together at the table. I was therefore stunned when instead we just got blank looks and a frequently repeated reply that we should had booked in advance. Even though we explained about it being a Jewish funeral, and there not being time to book, the message just kept being repeated. This was very distressing for all of us but particularly for the immediate family. In the end we had to find some space around the entrance to the pub where most of us could stand but this simply led to the staff then telling us several times not to block the entrance. The table in the adult only area remained empty for the duration of the visit and after staying for just one drink we all left under a massive cloud on what was already a very sad day.

I was really shocked by the attitude of the staff towards the funeral party. They showed very little humanity. The experience left everyone with a very negative view of Holt's pubs and made a distressing day even more distressing. I think at the very least the family are owed a very big apology from Joseph Holt Brewery. I wrote to them to ask for one following the visit but two weeks after our experience they have not even acknowledged the email and there has been no reply.

Don't venture into the Clocktower on your own on Sundays

Called in for a couple of pints at the Clocktower this afternoon, and managed to get myself a quiet booth. Just finishing a pint when a staff member came over and told me there was a family of four who they wished to seat, and as i was on my own would i be leaving soon. How embarrassing that was. I know the pub was full but I've never known anything like it. I'll never venture into the Clocktower public house again. I'd like to know if that's the Joseph Holt's policy.

Return Customer Encouragement

I visted the Stone Mill in Warrington and ordered an offer meal with a free drink along with a second meal for my wife.
At no time did the guy servicing me explain that if I order in a cetain way that I could save money.
He just went ahead and gave me the cheapest drink free.
The food and service were excellent but I will never buy a drink there again

Why can my dog not go in the room of…

Why can my dog not go in the room of the Newall Green public house. Yes it can go in the vault but not the room . My dog is extremely well behaved and everyone in the pub loves her, she has never made a mess in the pub and goes to the door when she wants to go outside. There is another pub The Silver birch very local and a Holts pub that lets dogs anywhere in the pub so please let me know why this is so. I will not be drinking in this pub again I’ve been a regular for 55 years and my dog has been coming in the Newalls since 8 weeks of age. This is a disgrace.

Christmas day lunch at the Richmond in Southport

We were a party of 6 adults and 3 young children. Function room was hot and poorly decorated, a Xmas tree devoid of lights, paper table cloths. Table booked for 3pm, by 4.30pm we had only had our 1st course and adults had finished theirs before the children's had arrived! Main courses ordered were mainly the traditional roast, either turkey or beef. Just not hot enough! My meal had 2 sprouts, 3 pieces of carrot and 1 piece of parsnips for vegetables. Reckon they were running out of food. Desserts not too bad but then no cooking involved. Overall the food and service was very poor. A very disappointing Christmas lunch. This pub needs to think about increasing staffing levels and improving the food for the next festive season. Personally I wouldn't rebook.

Visited The Railway in Buxton…don't bother

Visited The Railway in Buxton Yesterday. My mum, my 17 Yr old autistic son and myself. Waited to be served as the barmaid? Took her Time putting glasses away even though she knew I was waiting. Eventually took my order, which was difficult itself due to 3 dogs barking. Loudly! My mum wanted a pot of tea. I had to ask for it after waiting 30 minutes, to be told - oh sorry I forgot. Was still another 10 minutes. The pub I would just like to point out was not busy. A further 20 minutes (now an hour since ordered) later I then I had to ask where food was due to amount.of time taken. I was told another 10 minutes. Food arrived, my Son had a burger with no complaints. I ordered steak baguette. Could tell it had been microwaved. Meat was tough and chewy. Made me feel sick. Chips were OK. Onion rings really nice. The whole time we were there all 3 dogs were barking. No one did anything about it. Pub stank of wet dog. No hand gel by door. It was empty. Will not recommend to anyone and will not return. Poorly run pub. Needs an overhaul. If dogs are allowed they should be well behaved ones. These 3 weren't!!! Visited 15/02/2024 approximately 1.30 ish.

We today visited the Tavern at The Mill…

We today visited the Tavern at The Mill in Thornton Lancs. What a disappointing experience it was. It wasn't partially busy either yet all the 3 meats looked dry and were the remnants of the joints. Asked if they were putting fresh joints out the woman in charge just laughed and said "New joints? this is what you get". There was no gravy or roast potatoes and we were all abruptly told to sit down and they would call us when the gravy was ready. I joined other people asking for a refund which I received off the person in charge without much of an apology except a mumble that they were under pressure. We are regulars here and were also surprised at the way they were shaving off the thinnest slices of meat to make it last as long as possible and the way staff were running around like headless chickens. All in all not a good visit. The bar staff were however very nice and attentive.
I run a local on line food guide and visit many pubs but this was the worst for a long time. When you can get far better quality at home something is sadly wrong.

INEDIBLE

Regardless of any 5 star reviews, this was my experience:

Terrible. It was a horrible experience at Tavern On The Mill, Thornton Cleveleys Lancashire. It was late morning, unfortunately Marsh Mill informed them they could not accommodate a breakfast, I overlooked breakfasts were only Saturday on Sunday on the menu. I overheard a customer requesting a toasted tea cake, as it was late morning, unfortunately that could not be accommodated either.

We did not want such a Big Breakfast that was on the Menu at the time, So we opted for two Small Plates, and two pots of Tea.

The Pots of tea were good quality tea bags, and there were a good cup full, this was very welcome, at a cost of £2.50 each.

The Small Plates arrived at first glance as they were being placed on the table looking poor. The Garlic & Stilton Mushrooms were honestly swimming in oil, puddling at the bottom of a ramekin type container, and puddles of oil throughout the small dish, could not taste any garlic, and at first taste it tasted of pure cooking oil, and the consistency had an 'Curdled' appearance, at a cost of £5.75.

I returned to the bar area and showed the person that took the order that Garlic & Stilton Ramekin was swimming in oil. I informed the staff that it was horrible. I was asked later on what the Caesar Salad was like? I did inform that I was not impressed, I paid for a Caesar Salad, and that was not a Caesar Salad, just Ice Gem Lettuce leaves for £5.45, the chicken that was nice was only consumed at £1.75. Total. So basically, If I had not had the extra cost chicken, I would have just paid £5.45 for a plate of Lettuce - something badly wrong there.

A Caesar salad was ordered. The person taking the order came over and asked if an extra topping of chicken was required, so at an extra £1.75 this was added. When that arrived at the table it was not what I call a Caesar Salad, it was the extra chicken on a bed of Ice Gem Lettuce. The total was £17.95. Unfortunately, I just paid at the till and did not question, I was actually charged £21.70 for the meals & £1.75 for the extra chicken topping totaling £23.45.

The Manager refunded the cost of the Garlic & Stilton at £5.75. It basically cost me the whole cost, apart from 25 pence, that was in reality only refunded. You do expect when the staff take your food order that they will get it right, but I did not question it, and it has passed, so nothing I can do about it. We were given two take away dishes, for the carvery, we took a modest amount, we do not often go out or have treats like a meal out, particularly due to the cost of living. I don't expect to be ripped off like this, even more expected to be given the rubbish we were expected to eat.

I appreciate the manager, when made the gesture of refunded the Garlic & Stilton, possibly was not aware I was overcharged for the meal when ordering, but I did not realize at the time also, otherwise I am sure it would have been sorted out. The manager actually did make reference to the meal when she served the meal, did not think it was nice. I appreciate the manager was attempting to rectify this, however, still brought it out and served us with the disgusting dish, I am so sorry, but it was actually disgusting, the seemingly Garlic Mushrooms, and the so-called Caesar Salad. A good Manager does not do that. This manager was overheard saying to the chef that would not eat it , the chef eventually said no, making reference would not eat it either. They should not have been brought out to us as customers. Sort it with the chef there and, then opposed to after a customer complains. Joseph Holt Company needs to be aware of this, I truly feel I have been totally ripped off.

Honest opinion. Not good food from the kitchen. Incompetent regarding taking orders, regarding overcharging.

Appalling customer service

Ordered fourty bottles of beer from the Joseph Holt shop and only thirty two turned up, I have phoned and emailed them a few times about the missing items and was promised a call back, no reply to any emails either.
I have placed numerous items with this company and had a few issues with missing items, the fact that they have kept my money for the missing items is scandalous and I will not be ordering from them again.
