Used Car Purchase Review

Used Car Purchase Review – A Disappointing Experience
I recently purchased a used vehicle from this company and, regrettably, the experience has been deeply disappointing from start to finish.
Upon delivery, I was assured the car was in showroom condition. However, this was far from the truth. The vehicle had numerous deep scratches, some of which had been poorly covered up—making the damage even more noticeable. It was agreed that I could take the car to a garage and the company would cover the cost of repairs. The quote came back at £1,500, clearly proving the car was not in showroom condition as advertised. The company then attempted to shift blame onto the delivery company, which felt like an evasion of responsibility.
Despite this, I remained open to resolving the issue. Unfortunately, things worsened when I began experiencing intermittent locking issues. The car would not lock properly, and the fault appeared to be with the boot—despite me not having used it. I had to repeatedly open and close the boot just to secure the vehicle. This was the final straw.
I formally exercised my legal right to reject the vehicle under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and requested a full refund. While the company initially agreed, the refund process was unnecessarily delayed. I had already provided my bank details, yet I was left without both the car and my money for an extended period. I had to chase multiple times, receiving only vague assurances and further delays.
This delay had a real impact—I missed out on other suitable vehicles while waiting for the refund to be processed. Meanwhile, the company continued to hold my funds, likely accruing interest, while I was left unable to move forward with purchasing a replacement car I urgently needed for work.
To add insult to injury, I’ve now seen the same car relisted for approximately £1,700 more than I paid. Given the short time frame and the photos used, I seriously doubt any of the necessary repair work has been completed.
The lack of communication and professionalism throughout the process has left me extremely disappointed and skeptical of the company’s practices. It’s a shame, as the car itself had potential, but the condition, faults, and poor after-sales support made it impossible to continue.
I will be purchasing my next vehicle from a local, more reliable dealer.
I strongly advise others to be cautious when dealing with this company. My experience has eroded any confidence I had, and I would not recommend them.

Recommended family run business.

Bought a lovely car from Martin, very friendly and easy going, had a couple of small issues after I had it for a few days but no problem sorting out, technician guy seemed pleasant too, believe me I've had some awful after sales in my life, highly recommended.

Very Disappointing Customer Service

I tried to send the following message to Jermyn Motors Eastbourne first by email (bounced back from an address they used to contact customers) and then by web mail (got message "Oops, something went wrong.). Third time lucky?

I seek a complete refund plus interest for my service plan for my MG5.

I rang three weeks ago to book a service tomorrow. This morning I got a call from a receptionist saying Jermyn were no long able to service in Eastbourne as they had been "disenfranchised" by MG. And I would have to drive to Brighton or Tunbridge Wells MG for servicing.

This completely contradicts an email sent out by Jermyn on 4 September. See below. This states,

Q. Will this affect my service plan?
A. Not at all, we will continue servicing to the end of the plan.
Q. Will you be able to carry out warranty work on my car?
A. No but we can put you in touch with the nearest people who can.

I have paid Jermyn monthly for a service plan since buying the car.

My wife and I have no recollection of receiving the email below from Jermyn. I have obtained it from a friend who lives near me and also owns an MG EV.

I have just booked a service next week with Birchwood (who have taken over the Eastbourne franchise).

Why has there been no smooth handover between two local companies?

Why try to steer me to Brighton and Tonbridge Wells when these are much further away than Birchwood Eastbourne?

Why was I not told Birchwood were taking over when I booked my service? Why was I not given this information this morning.

Regards
Paul Burns
