When the owner of the Hotel writes a 5…
When the owner of the Hotel writes a 5 star review for his own place, you need to be worried. I booked this via Hotels.com and at no point during the booking process was I made aware that I would need to provide any other information outside of what is normal for a hotel booking. Just walk up to the reception and sign in - nope , not here.
Then the emails came. 5 in 10 minutes asking for photos of my ID, photos of my credit card, a signed contract (what !!) and an electronic signature or 'the system' would not release my access code and I wouldn't be able to stay. Then, to make matters even worse, you realise that one of the emails is an invoice for an additional £45 on top of the fee you just paid to the booking agent.
The confirmation email from Hotels.com simply states......
Your booking is confirmed so you don’t need to do a thing. Just look forward to your stay.

but this is simply not true with Infinity Apartments and Liverpool at the Strand 2. I spoke to Hotels.com about the whole episode but the owner, Mr George Egginton (check out the name of the 5 star review writer) refused to offer a refund on the booking.
UPDATED *** The immigration act that he refers to is below - but please note it suggests ID must be given at arrival, not in advance. And for the record, Infinity was contacted by myself yet they refused to acknowledge and negotiate their shortcomings

Sorry you feel hard done by in this instance, let me clarify the issue so the general public can have a better insight on this booking.
1. It is Hotels.com who should have indicated that we and all hotel require photo ID and proof payment as well as a signed contract, this is called the hotels immigration act of 1972 and as you yourself have clearly highlighted that's exactly what you do when you attend the reception desk, due to our serviced apartment not having a reception we have to ask for this is advance.
2. The service charge of £45 is highlighted in all Hotels.com listings and is very clear. but if you feel this is not correct them please complain to Hotels.com about they way they show the extra charges we as a company have no control in this matter.
3. I understand you have spoken to Hotels.com about a refund but you have never once tried to speak to us, your booking is still live and has not been cancelled.
If you are unhappy with supplying the required lawful data then we have little control in this matter and we will not legally be able to allow you in the accommodation.
We are very disappointed that you have felt the need to give us a bad review. we are always more than happy to discuss the matter but you have clearly made your mind up that we are a bad company when we don't control HOTELS.COM and there site.
In Answer to your update, you are correct the act does state you are required to provide ID upon arrival so if we have no reception how can we accept ID on arrival ??
Its very clear that hotels.com has misinformed yourself on the extra charges or you missed the fine print, i can clarify the only calls we have had were from Hotels.com and our direct emails asking for clarification of the calls have been ignored, as stated the booking is still live.
