Been going to the 500 since 1969. They have a new museum that you can spend hours in, which they just completed about a year ago. It is really busy during race weekend, so I would plan to go on off race weekends.
I have been blessed to go to the Indy 500 three times in the last four years. Each experience was very different, but all amazing; I wouldn't change a thing. The track is massive, there is so much going on during a race weekend. I recommend getting there early, bringing a cooler with the drinks you want, and just trying to take it all in. Living in small-town California it is hard to get there, but it is worth it. I hope to be able to go again.
