Run!
A friend and I recently had surgery at this clinic in Istanbul with Dr. Kockman. While the doctor was talented and professional, the aftercare was deeply troubling. After an 8-hour operation, We left almost naked and freezing, with no nurses or monitoring equipment available. My friend is type one diabetic they had made her remove her sugar monitor then tried to charge 100 lira before taking a blood sample. Whilst laying in bed, very sick, she had vomited on her mask whilst laying on her back. Her blood sugar levels were dangerously 22. No nurse bedside care or comfort whatsoever thankfully her friend was with her. Who cleaned her up as best as possible and managed to somehow return insulin disk back into her arm so she could monitor own bloods again.
Communication was a major issue, as most staff relied on Google Translate and struggled with English accents. Basic supplies like towels and toilet paper were hard to obtain, and aftercare instructions were not provided in English. I was mistakenly given Xanax meant for my friend, leaving me disoriented.
I had to record how to take my medication as there were no labels or instructions, and I was asked to sign a form praising their service while under the influence. Personal items, like my shoes, went missing. Although the hotel was clean, room keys frequently failed, requiring several room changes.
Requests for essential items such as clean dressings and properly fitting compression garments were ignored. A promised nursing visit to our hotel for wound care never happened we literally spent the rest of the week covered in old dry blood, no dressings and not even a photocopied aftercare sheet in English to work from.
The coordinators barely communicated with us, making us feel like we were just a number. While Dr. Kockman may have a great reputation, I wouldn't recommend this clinic even to my worst enemy. Please research thoroughly before booking, as some clinics prioritize profit over patient care. My friend and I decided to recover at home using advice from ChatGPT, and we'll handle any complications locally.
Overall, the experience was distressing due to the lack of proper aftercare, communication issues, and additional inconveniences. I hope the clinic addresses these issues to improve patient care in the future but they won't. It is a battery farm, once they have your money they don't even bother to look at you and pretend that they suddenly cannot speak English. You cannot purchase bandages, clean gauze, pressure stockings or face support from any chemist and she hotels do not have any also. You will spend the week in the dressing ls you were put in when you left surgery the week before. Please take your own medical kit with non stick gauze lots, saline eye pods, pressure stockings, face mask, cleaning pads, cooling masks, bruising crean, gloves. A clean fresh facial band to hold gauze in front of your head, guardian angels, a cross. Prayers and a friend with their wits about them. Film everything for your records later. They also make you sign lord knows what about 40 pages in Turkish before you get taken down in silence to their torture chamber. Both my friend and I truly feel like we had a leading role in the film Saw. Please avoid this clinic and warn all your friends
