Awful

Awful, keep clear. They have accepted that what I asked for and what they priced is incorrect to what they installed. They have hidden behind their terms to say I signed for their mistake so not their issue. If you are to use them make sure you undertake a course in window jargon as they don't explain anything and just lie constantly. When installed, one window was cracked and a complete pane was missing. No explanantion and no forewarning.

Replying to IWS response on the 17th March, your reply proves my point. Happy to publish everything you have sent to me including your admissions and the fact you hide behind the contract. And yes, I did change the windows, only in terms of openers and trickle vents.... read the emails!!! Pathetic response from a company I wouldn't recommend to anybody. Cracked windows and missing panes are not acceptable. Snagging is related to works completed, missing elements of the scope is not snagging. Avoid at all costs.

It is always going to be disappointing to receive a negative review. However, there has to be at least some truth in it. For context, signing a contract for home improvement works binds both parties to the terms of the contract. It is naïve to complain that the details and terms of a contract have been relied upon, particularly as I am sure that if we had breached or broken the contract the first thing that would have happened is that we would be held to account under it. To be clear, I do not agree that we accept that we have installed anything that wasn't on the contract. The customer had several quotes, and altered and changed the details of the requirements each time. The quote isn't the contract and isn't a binding document. The details of the final quote were transferred to a contract that says in several places that the responsibility to check the details is the responsibility of the customer. If you are ordering a specific product that you have had quoted several times, I don't think it unreasonable to expect you to be able to check it has been included in the contract you are signing for. I take exception at being accused of lying, and bearing in mind your relationship to a legal expert I would be careful about making such uncorroborated statements, there is legal redress for such things. No windows were cracked, it was a piece of glass which isn't that unusual in window replacement and one piece of glass was missing, it didn't hold up the installation in any regard, and is normal snagging in building works. We have an exemplary testimonial record three thousand reviews on Checkatrade and have continuously traded for thirty years. This complaint was dealt with properly and professionally at the time, so this review I hope will be seen as an unfair 'pop' at us because the reviewer failed to read the details of his order/contract properly and feels cross about it.

DISGRACEFUL BEHAVIOUR

As a disabled person in a wheelchair, I cannot reach the handle of my window to open it. I first contacted Ideal Windows wanting to swap the windows around but Paul, their salesman who I dealt with, had a better idea; why not lower the handle?

An appointment was made for Paul to come round two weeks ago, which i had to cancel due to my health. Last week, I phoned and left a message to renew the appointment; not hearing back from Paul after a couple of days, I left another message. When I phoned last Friday my number had been blocked.

Paul, as a salesperson, represents the face of this company; i think he has behaved in a disgraceful and shocking way.

In response to Ideal Windows, there were no emails or phone calls to resolve the situation as there was no situation. Paul was perfectly aware I was cancelling because I was unwell.
When I felt better I telephoned Paul twice, leaving messages about fitting the lower handle and to book an appointment. The third time I called Paul's phone didn't even ring; my call was rejected time and time again. This sort of thing happens if you are blocked. Paul did phone me after reading my review and did try to book an appointment but I was in a taxi, coming back from a hospital appointment, roaring down a motorway, and did not have my calender with me.
Where a company behaves badly or incorrectly, I will highlight this on Trustpilot so that the public is informed. This is not personal against the company, just that the public need to know when a company behaves badly.
By the way, Ideal Windows, I would prefer you, please, not to do any work for me.

Again in response to Ideal windows, I did not receive an email from Paul after the taxi conversation.
As to Paul's solution, lowering the handle on my tilt and turn window, I have since found out that this is impossible to do, because the closing/locking mechanism is fixed.

With the utmost respect, I think this review is undeserved and unfair., and clearly a case of a misunderstanding. It is particularly unfair due to the fact that that this potential customer has published the review without making any attempt to talk to us as a business about what she believed may have happened, but has chosen to make an assumption about the person she had spoken to, Paul, and in the process decided to try and damage our reputation. As a company with a thirty year reputation to protect and close to 3000 published reviews, we take reputational damage very seriously. I can assure anyone reading this review that having checked our recorded telephone system, that the number has not been blocked. Two appointments have been cancelled and subsequent emails and phone calls to investigate the matter have been ignored. If the complainant felt the behaviour was 'disgraceful' then I am perplexed as to why they wouldn't have contacted the company to make a complaint that would have carried far more weight than a spurious review on Trustpilot.

As the original complaint has been edited, it is appropriate for me to edit my reply, particularly as although the opportunity to respond to us directly has been given it has again been ignored. I have a copy of the email sent by Paul after the taxi phone call. We haven't acted badly or incorrectly and it is inappropriate to suggest we have. You have made an un-corroborated claim about a salesman who contacted you, who actually suggested an alternative to your problem which would have saved money and made the use of the window far easier and more practical.
A reasonable person thinking something was wrong in the way they had been treated would have contacted the company in question and at least given them the benefit of the doubt and an opportunity to investigate the complaint, before accusing them in the way you have of acting badly or incorrectly, which we strenuously deny. Hopefully other people reading both sides of this who are reasonable, will form their own opinion and not jump to conclusions. I think on balance not working for you is best for us too.

Leaving a disabled child in a unsecured house

They were notified at 11.30am their shoddy PVC French door had dropped. At 16.05 I was told their workers had gone home for the day? They were made aware that I have a disabled child with complex medical issues not one care was given. All of us on this street have had issues with the patio doors, gaps, wobbles and doors dropping. it's no wonder lovell homes use them as they are all cowboys. Now my home is unsecured with a disabled child and they think that's absolutely fine. I wouldn't give them the time of day!

IWS do not honour their 10 year warranty

New front door fitted by IWS in 2017, roll forward a few years and I contacted IWS in person in March’24 to obtain price for replacement chrome door pull and letter box, I left all my details. Didn’t hear anything for several weeks before chasing. One of the many Hollys rang to query my door and say they could find no record, I provided other details but was told I hadn’t ordered from them as they definitely had nothing for my name and address.

I dug through our large house renovation file to provide the order form and invoice, to discover our door was supplied with a 10 year warranty. I provided all the details required with photos on more than one occasion to claim for the faulty door furniture under warranty. To be clear we live in a coastal location, our fully renovated home contains aluminium windows with associated furniture, aluminium roller garage doors and upvc doors with chrome ‘Yale’ furniture. I am meticulous about most things in my life and maintain my property on a rigorous schedule. I have had no issues with any other product except my front door furniture.

IWS rang several months later to advise that the replacement turnkey and lock was ready for installation. I questioned this as there was nothing wrong with the lock, they repeatedly told me it was the right part even transferring me to an engineer to discuss. An email containing a repeat of the photos already sent was submitted again, the penny finally dropped for them!!

I was then told the parts I been chasing since March would not be covered under warranty as it was salt damage. IWS is based in the south coast and they were happy to take my money and fit a product in a coastal environment. They claim I have not maintained it, that is simply not the case, my doors, windows, glass, locks, garage doors are meticulously maintained due to the environment I live in. They would not budge, internet research suggests ‘chrome’ furniture is not recommended for the harsh costal environment due to salt yet they were happy to fit. I have a UPVC door with Yale furniture that faces the sea and it looks as good as the day it was installed so this proves I’m capable of maintaining my property.

IWS would not budge, the DCGOS ombudsman service that IWS pay for is powerless to intervene. IWS offered to source and fit the furniture on a ‘cost plus’ basis, they eventually provided a quote for furniture screen grabbed off the internet, that is not my understanding of ‘cost’ as these were retail prices from the internet I could source myself.

Further research discovered the same products available for less that I was quoted so there was clearly no benefit in involving IWS. They also demanded fully payment before ordering, given it was now July and I first visited in March, I was not too keen to pay an inflated RRP upfront when cheaper was available nor be at their mercy for fitting.

Given that I visited the showroom in March, four months later the issue was no closer to a solution. When Chris ran the whole company we had exceptional service with a conservatory build, sad to see how far the service standards have fallen since that part was handed to Mr E and daughter.

All in all a very disappointing experience, think long and hard before spending your money with IWS, they will not honour warranty claims, reading reviews here supports that with several other negative experiences. Do not think DCGOS will give you any protection, they are powerless to intervene and are a paid service by IWS.

It is never comfortable to receive a negative review, luckily for us as a business it is very rare. Sometimes we will encounter unreasonable people too, who despite all the evidence just can’t accept they might be wrong. In this case we won’t have ‘denied’ ever fitting the door, but when dealing with a warranty claim we do ask for the original order number or support documentation to enable us to find the installation among the thousands of records we hold. Once this was supplied, we despatched an engineer to inspect immediately. On each installation we provide an Operation and Maintenance manual. It explains clearly what must be done, bearing in mind our coastal location, customers are advised to regularly wash down door fittings and furniture to avoid a build up of salt that leads to corrosion. If this is done regularly the product just won’t corrode. The condition of the door furniture was purely due to salt corrosion, and therefore not replaceable under warranty. Insisting you have carried out the required cleaning regime is understandable, but not supported by the evidence. As stated we are on the coast, we have been fitting products here for thirty years, the thousands of positive reviews we have on Checkatrade and other forums doesn't support any problems with the quality of the products we fit or our service. Properly maintained they will last far longer than the ten years we warranty them for. The DGCOS provide our IBG to customers, a legal requirement for home improvement companies, they also offer free to customers arbitration, mediation and referral to the Ombudsman. The fact they didn't agree with Mr. T view doesn't make them powerless or useless, if they had upheld his viewpoint I am sure he would think them a marvellous organisation!
With regard to offering to source replacement product on a 'cost plus' basis. I am confused as to how there can be more than one understanding of this phrase? We offered to the customer the opportunity to pay us what the parts cost us to buy, what was required isn't available from our regular suppliers. The advertised cost on the internet was neither retail or trade, just the cost, as it was we didn't add any margin, the plus, and offered to fit the product for free, despite not being at fault? I struggle to see how any of that is unreasonable or likely from a company that doesn't want to look after customers. I have no idea why Mr T has felt the need to make this personal, but clearly having not gotten his own way he has had the energy to complain to every available forum. If the measure of good service is reliant on giving product and service away, even when the simplest of maintenance hasn't been carried out, leading to the product being damaged, then I will gave to accept the criticisms, and put my faith in the judgement of more reasonable people, who on reading the thousands of reviews we have compared to this one sided account will make up their own minds.

Very happy

Just used Ideal Window Solutions for the 2nd time to replace some 'blown' double glazing units (this time, 2 large conservatory panels and one unit within our kitchen window).

They were fab first time around, and I have to say excellent this time too.

Easy and pleasant to deal with on the phone.

Because of a tight deadline, the fitter reassured me that he would fit the units before going on holiday, even if he had to do so on a Sunday (though thankfully it didn't come to that).

On the day, everything was done swiftly and professionally, and the areas made very clean and tidy before he left.

Very happy with the result and the service received.

They do not honor their claimed warranty…

They do not honor their claimed 10-year warranty and asked us to pay for replacing the window panels (diagnosed as mechanism failure within the frames) that have been used for only 2.5 years. Avoid using them by all means!

Wrote emails and called, no further reply. Simply repeating they only offer a 2-year warranty to the clients of the New-Build Developers, not the 10-year warranty as stated on their official website. Does that mean you install inferior windows for these new-build homes? What a discrimination! The Consumer Rights Act 2015 states that items must be of satisfactory quality, as described, fit for purpose, and last a reasonable length of time, we have these rights for six years in England!

Wow, see how the owner was desperately trying to 'justify' the unfair business below! There is no legitimate ground for offering discriminative warranties to different customers that have the so-claimed 'same-quality' products unless you discriminate the customers with inferior products so that you are not incented to offer longer warranties. Potential customers check the tracking record below too.

First, it was the builder who redirected me to you for the 10-year warranty. Second, the boiler, heater, dishwasher, fridge, etc., are all purchased and installed by the builder but the warranties are provided by the producers to me and they all honor their warranties (not just the 2-year ones with the builder but complying with the industry standards), unlike you. And now you as the owner is desperately trying to shut me up by mentally abusing and threatening me.

It is grossly unfair to review us as a customer when you have never bought anything from us directly. Your understanding of legally binding contracts is clearly naïve. We are in contract with the house builder that built your home. Under the NHBC guidelines they have to guarantee the build for two years, we only offer a guarantee on that basis. There is no ten year warranty available to you or house builders, you are looking at our retail website, where the offering and costs are completely different, and I can assure you we have never dishonoured our guarantee and object to you suggesting we have, particularly when you are hiding behind an anonymous identity on this page. The windows installed in new build homes are far from inferior, but are fitted in the house at the beginning of the process where they can be subject to abuse from every trade working on the site after we have left. We issue an Operation and Maintenance guide with each new build house installation, and if you have had a mechanical failure after the warranty has run out why would we or should we give you a FOC replacement, do you think Curry's would give you a new TV in those circumstances, or the Ford garage would give you a new car? Warranties regardless of length, two years or ten years run out, once they have suppliers don't just decide to ignore the commercial realities or the possibility the product has been miss used!
You keep adding completely meaningless comments to your already proven spurious review. Our contract isn't with you we are in a commercial contract with the builder developer, that contract in law is governed in a completely different way to the Consumers Rights act, I said you were naïve but actually your ignorant. Their is no warranty discrimination, I don't understand why you are struggling to understand plain English. Builders determine the warranty, they are are customer and perfectly happy with the contractual situation. You are their customer, why aren't you on social media complaining about your builder who no doubt you have spent hundreds of thousands and pounds with. You haven't spent one penny on specifically buying our products and have no right to criticise us on a public forum. If you do not stop I will issue proceedings against you, a cease and desist notice, for defamation and reputational damage, and pursue costs for the same.

Multiple problems found and resolved before final payment.
Multiple further failures of door handle corrosion and multiple windows ‘blown’ illustrating internal condensation.
Generally all glass is dirty on the inside.

Hi David,

We are sorry that you are disappointed with the service on your installation back in 2016. We had previously replaced your letterbox as requested, on a conversation with one of our team you advised that you were cleaning the letterbox with cream and abrasive products which is not reccomended and ofcourse will damage the product. Unfortunately, we haven't received a letter from you on this matter but if you would like to speak with us on this please call 0800 7318761 or by email enquiries@idealwindowsolutions.co.uk

Don’t trust the warranty!

The inner pane on one of our bedroom windows spontaneously shattered this morning despite only being just under 2.5 years old. We contacted Ideal but we’re told that they couldn’t do anything for 2 weeks and that we would have to pay the full cost for a replacement window as ‘spontaneous’ breakage wasn’t covered by their warranty. An independent assessor confirmed that the shattering was due to a manufacturing fault but Ideal still don’t admit liability. Looks like we’re heading for the small claims court next!

Hi Andy,

As previously discussed, we can't cover broken windows for 'spontaneous shattering', we are a business and follow a fair process and if proven to be a manufacturing fault, we would cover this in our guaranteed warranty. We have since contacted you asking for a proof of report from this independent assessor, and we are yet to receive this.
We can discuss this further if you would like to get in touch as we take great pride in our products, installation and after care service for all of our customers.

Replacement windows

We were very disappointed by the company and would not recommend them and are taking our business elsewhere.

The survey carried out by the company got the measurements wrong necessitating the brickwork to be cut in order to fit the window.
We received a copy of the surveyor’s report but with the name redacted and the company were reluctant to state his qualifications.
More importantly the report failed to mention the brickwork and lime mortar surrounding the windows and it appeared to us in the report that this was even not looked at.

When the old windows were removed the brickwork started to collapse and required propping up.

The company were reluctant to take any responsibility quoting the contract and the subsequent work cost us a significant amount of money.

Any customer considering contracting with this company are advised to read the totality of the contract first.

Less than Ideal Window Solutions

I ordered and paid my deposit in April 2021 for a total of 18 windows to be replaced. The quote was reasonable, although it was a lot of money and I had saved for a long time to be able to get them done. They were not able to start the work until Sept. A date was arranged and then pushed back as a previous job had run over. My job then ran over but they were not prepared to afford me the same courtesy and left the job. During the initial fitting a structural problem was discovered and my builder rearranged all his work to fix the problem by the date Ideal had said they wanted it done by, they then didn’t turn until several weeks after the date. They did not fit the windows to the rear of the house whilst the building work was being done to the front (which would have saved time)! They left all the windows in the garden for weeks. They fitted a top opening window where a bottom opening window should have been, they put the wrong glass in the bathroom, two windows had water in them, one had a fault in the glass. They measured windows wrong (despite measuring them 3 times), they ordered the wrong size glass twice. They demanded full payment prior to completion (they didn’t get it)!
They repeatedly didn’t turn up and I would be there waiting. They were rude and have offered no compensation for the appalling service given.
They finally finished a year later on 21/4/22.
To be fair the windows are good quality and well fitted but the service was appalling.

Absolutely disgusting service

Absolutely disgusting service, fitters were polite, thorough and tidied up, but overall the company don't care, or is it because we're second class in council properties, bookings made for installation of new fire doors, time of work unpaid and they don't turn up, door lock completely jamming on one person's door leaving someone locked in property, council came out quickly and forced lock, took ideal 19 days to come and replace lock

I have just had all my windows and…

I have just had all my windows and doors replaced by Ideal Windows Solutions, and I am so happy that I chose them to do the job. The end result is beyond amazing and I am already recouping the cost as my central heating is set 2 degrees below what I would normally have had it at. It took less than two days to install, and the professionalism of the two-man team - Pat and Brendan - was exemplary. From getting a quote, through to installation and final inspection, was a painless, straightforward process. And, what's more, no talking down to me. Thanks guys! You were brilliant and I will be singing your praises to everyone from now on.
