Give Humphris Cowboy Crash Repairs a wide birth
My insurers approved crash repairer recently repaired my vehicle. When delivered it was in first class mechanical order with no faults but when collected had many faults arising in my opinion from surges during TIG welding. 1) Central locking inoperative. 2) Wing mirrors inoperative. 3) Engine management warning light. 4) Restricted performance Red warning. On investigation this was due to a short circuited MAF sensor which i had to have replaced. 5) Dashboard vehicle lock button inoperative. 6) Auto gear box learned up/down shift rev/timing inoperative. 7) Windows global opening not working. 8) Learned air/fuel mixture parameters lost. These faults in my opinion could only have been caused by: a) Disconnection of the battery for an extended period. b) Ground loops, voltage surges & spikes & EMI generated by an ArIG/MIG welder where neither the vehicle nor welder chassis were grounded. It is generally acknowledged that disconnecting the battery on modern cars will cause the loss of control modules memory, data & programmes
as the semiconductors are VOLATILE DYNAMIC RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY (VDRAM) to and STATIC RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY (SRAM) which both maintain data only for as long as power is supplied to them. If a surge spike suppressor had been installed across the battery terminals there was no necessity to disconnect or remove the battery. If the battery had to be removed for some reason a slave 12v battery should have been jumpered to the positive & negative lead lugs prior to disconnection. On checking with a Jaguar approved body shop the manager couldn't believe a professional company would return a car in such condition & confirmed they allow in their estimate for reprogramming by main dealer in full knowledge removing the battery on any car will wipe the modules memories. I suggest you give Humphris wide berth they are not professional and total Cowboys
