Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 64 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the booking process, encountering issues such as hotels not honoring reservations, incorrect bookings, and misleading information about hotel quality and location. Customers also frequently reported problems with pricing, including hidden fees, currency conversion issues, and advertised prices that increased significantly upon attempting to book. The website itself was a source of frustration for many, with non-functional editing features, difficulties in booking advertised deals, and a lack of transparency regarding crucial information. The customer service was consistently criticized for being unhelpful, difficult to reach, and unresponsive to issues, often offering minimal compensation or directing customers to contact hotels directly. Some people also felt that the service provided was unreliable, particularly concerning internet service and the inability to make changes to reservations or receive refunds.

Hotwire- not adoption friendly

Booked 5 flights. Adoption finalized unexpectedly before flight. They are not adoption friendly. We’ve spent a little over 40 hours trying to change the name. They have now cancelled part of our flight and keep telling us they’ll rebook. It’s been a month. So now we have hotels booked, but no flights but still out $3,500. Virgin and Delta both advised the same. Hotwire needs to apply the waiver code given and assign seats. Hotwire can’t figure out how to do it so we may be out $3,500 in flights and $3,000 in hotels.

Biggest rip off ever !!

Biggest rip off ever !!! They advertised a $1000 hotel room for 87% off. Wow what a deal right? No i get to the hotel and got a standard room. It would have been cheaper to book with the hotel directly for the room i actually paid more woth hotwire !! Big fat liars!! They wouldn't do anything about it except tell me to go to another hotel. No credit no chance to even attempt to make it right. Just a big too bad . Do not use !!

Misleading

I have never been on a sketchier website. Any travel site will display local currency when booking. I booked a room, then my credit card billed me in USD and when I was booking nowhere did it show that it wasn’t in local currency or notify that it was USD. It ended up being tiny fine print at the bottom after checkout. I called customer service to ask and the agent was so rude and condescending and I offered to send screenshots and she kept dismissing me. Literally save yourself the trouble, go to Booking.com

I gave it one star because they are a… Terrible service, they steal your money

I gave it one star because they are a fraudulent company, they hide charges, they have their own privacy policies and those who rent the cars have another one, they charged me for the car rental, and they did not give me my money back and I did not have the car either, they simply stole the money. But I will never use this company again, they are a fraud.

Do not use this website

Do not use this website. They are the biggest thieves ever. Hotels do not charge cancellations but Thu do and they keep your hard working money. They need to be investigated and sue.

Scam

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with a recent experience. Last Friday, we arrived at the hotel in Miami at 9:30 PM with hotel itinerary number 5157242838, only to be informed that the hotel was closed due to a fire and undergoing renovations. We immediately contacted customer service and spent 23 minutes on the phone, repeatedly stating the itinerary number, only to be told that they couldn't find our reservation and could not offer any solution. That night, we had to find another hotel at the last minute and pay again, without any assistance from Hotwire. This is not only unacceptable and disrespectful, but also feels like a scam

I have used Hotwire for years and due to the recent wild fires in poor air quality, I reached out to Hotwire to see if i could get a credit or refund despite booking a non refundable rental reservation for $131.00 for a day and a half. In this situation a credit or even half refund would have been great. I opted to not travel to Los Angeles this Saturday 1/18/25 for health reasons. I spoke to 3 reps and they acted as if they were trying to accommodate, to tell me the same denial response.

Hotwire is a trash of a booking site

I am extremely disappointed with Hotwire I’d never use Hotwire site as it’s untrustworthy.
Book directly to the hotel and don’t believe Hotwire lies so you won’t be double charged.
Hot wire should reimburse me the total amount additionally charged by the hotel.
They should be out of business .

Hotwire gives shady companies

Easirent was a joke. Totally sketchy. The shuttle hotwire suggested did not even go to the rental place. We found a shuttle that did. Easirent was in a run down hotel, VERY sketchy. They told us they didn't have any cars available and were overbooked. Then they said they had cars, but they needed oil changes. Then they offered us a Nissan leaf when we were supposed to have a Hyundai Santa Fe or equivalent. I will never use Hotwire again if they don't vet the companies they recommend.

reserved a car in san diego

reserved a car in san diego. thrifty "ran out" of cars and left me stranded with 2 small children, only to get ripped off by another agency that had a car... and this was after waiting in the agency line for 90 minutes. this "pending availability" thing they do should be illegal. id love to see a class action lawsuit to this effect so people aren't stranded in a strange city without transpiration. will NEVER use hotwire or thrifty again.

DO NOT TRUST

Hotwire did a booking with the hotel which did not accept my booking. We were stranded in the Hotel parking at 12.30 AM. Was travelling with a child, Neither the hotel nor Hotwire who should be responsible did anything to mitigate. The worst part was they lied, that there are no other hotels in that area or nearby. I was at Orlando and had to knock every motel door in the lane down and was able to find one. NOT TRUSTWORTHY!

I would have paid more to get a room that night

Wrong dates for my Flights in my Itinerary

I am extremely disappointed with Hotwire for providing inaccurate information in my online itinerary. Despite booking our flight months in advance, the "My Trips" section displayed the incorrect departure date, stating our flight left today when in reality it departed yesterday. I relied on Hotwire's platform to keep track of our travel plans, and this error caused us to miss our flight entirely. As a result, my children and I are now missing Christmas with our family, and they are heartbroken that we won't be there to celebrate with them. This is unacceptable and has resulted in significant stress, financial loss, and disruption to our travel plans, not to mention the emotional distress of missing this important time with loved ones. Hotwire's lack of attention to detail and failure to provide accurate information is deeply concerning, and I urge others to be wary when relying on their services.

One blames the other...

Booked a car rental through hotwire for my last family trip to Hawaii. Was promised a Chev Tahoe or similar and need the extra space as traveling with two young children and all the stuff that comes with that. Showed up to thrifty rental car at Kona and they tried to give me a smaller car, even showed the agent the email confirming my rental should have a larger vehicle and wouldn't let me out without putting an added charge on the credit card. said it will be no problem when you return the car just give hotwire a call and they'll make it right.... now I'm being tossed between the two companies playing the blame game. charged me more than double the original amount so a rental car for 6 days turned into a hefty one. Don't recommend booking with thrifty as they screwed me around and were not so thrifty after all. Hot wire should reimburse me the total amount additionally charged but say I have to wait as they cannot get ahold of anyone for 5 business days...

The deals are fine and hotels are fine…

The deals are fine and hotels are fine but just pray you don’t have a problem or are double charged. The customer service is absolutely the worst and you’ll never get an answer. I’m out money and time and it’s nearly impossible to reach them. Their 45190 text for help does not work, their message is button does not work. Calling is pointless, and messaging gets you nowhere. It was a lesson in frustration and I finally just gave up and lost the money. Stay away, it’s not worth the headache!!!

Poor first experience

The option we selected ended up being under major renovations, so there were 0 amenities available, construction noise during the day and the lobby was in shambles. The listing should have specified this or else it would not be been our selected choice.
I informed Hot Wire after 2 nights; not because we wanted to change hotels but because we felt compensation was in order as we were not provided what was shown on the listing and not informed of construction.
As others have pointed out here, the only offer of apology was $40 "hot dollars" (7% of the total amount we paid) and free breakfast. They would not even convert the credit to a refund upon request, even though the amount is so low. Blame is put on the customer for not contacting them immediately about the problem.
