Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 64 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the booking process, encountering issues such as hotels not honoring reservations, incorrect bookings, and misleading information about hotel quality and location. Customers also frequently reported problems with pricing, including hidden fees, currency conversion issues, and advertised prices that increased significantly upon attempting to book. The website itself was a source of frustration for many, with non-functional editing features, difficulties in booking advertised deals, and a lack of transparency regarding crucial information. The customer service was consistently criticized for being unhelpful, difficult to reach, and unresponsive to issues, often offering minimal compensation or directing customers to contact hotels directly. Some people also felt that the service provided was unreliable, particularly concerning internet service and the inability to make changes to reservations or receive refunds.

They double charged us for a rental…

They double charged us for a rental car. Claimed it was a system glitch: and when we called the next day they said the second charge (which was pending) would not stay. Well it did, and when we called back, they basically said their was nothing they could do to refund the mistake and they were going to keep the $113.55. We had to go through our bank (still processing it). I cannot believe a company would steal $113.55 from someone, but then again I guess I never delt with hotwire.

All I wanted to do add two boosters seats to my reservation.
I agreed to pay for them. NOPE They would not let me add them hence, putting my grandchildren in danger.

They simply did not care. It's all a scam and greed.

Hotwire messed up my flights

Hotwire messed up my flights . I used them to book a round trip to Mexico City . On my way back I had to purchase tickets because according to to AeroMexico my return flight was cancelled . When I contacted Hotwire they all play dumb . No one called back . 900 dollars wasted using Hotwire. I wouldn’t recommend it . They’ll mess up and not give a damn about.

Hotwire didn’t pay hotel = lost rez

July 2025 I paid Hotwire $167.36 for 2 nights (Oct 4 and 5) at Boma Nairobi Hotel. When I arrived I found that my reservation was cancelled because Hotwire had not paid the required two days in advance. Texting with Hotwire customer spt they would not stand behind the reservation leaving me without a hotel in Nairobi. I then had to pay $230 direct to hotel for the two nights. Hotwire says I will get my $167.36 back but I want the price I had to pay! I should not lose $62.64 because Hotwire didn’t forward my money to the hotel.

I booked a room through Hotwire

I booked a room through Hotwire, and on the confirmation email, check out time was listed as 'before noon'. So, we figured we'd leave about 11:30. At exactly 11:00, housekeeping knocked on our door and asked if planned on staying another night because check out is at 11. We had to pack quickly, then run down to the front desk so we wouldn't get charged for a second night. Hotwire customer service couldn't care less, and just reiterated that their email said 'before noon', and not 'noon'. So, apparently, before noon means an HOUR before noon?

This website has gone downhill

This website has gone downhill! You used to be able to get great deals and wonderful hotels now the deals are only about 20% off the price but then they charge you for other things. The four star hotels I really like three star hotels very basic. I would book through the hotel directly because then you get points.I stayed at the marina del Rey Doubletree. It was definitely a three star hotel very basic room little bit dirty on the floor smelled a plain solution. Lobby was nice and even to get into the hotel was that clearly marked.

BEWARE!!!

BEWARE!!!! DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. THE QUALITY HAS GONE DOWN . YOU WILL NOT GET WHAT YOUR PROMISED. I BOOKED A HOTEL IN SCOTTSDALE AND ENDED UP IN PHOENIX WITH A QUESTIONABLE 5 STAR HOTEL. FOR THEIR OWN ERROR, THEY WILL TELL YOU TO PAY A $40.00 FEE, AND DEPOSIT YOUR MONEY BACK TO USE ANOTHER HOTWIRE PROPERTY. RUN. USE ANOTHER BOOKING SITE WITH EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY WILL BE OUT OF BUSINESS AT THIS RATE.

Hotwire’s “Support” During a Shooting

Hotwire’s “Support” During a Shooting? A $25 Credit. Seriously?

Stayed at a hotel in Niagara Falls booked through Hotwire when a shooting broke out right on site—police everywhere, gunshots ringing out, total chaos.

Tried reaching Hotwire for help? Crickets. Zero support. They threw all responsibility onto the hotel and offered me a pathetic $25 credit as their idea of “customer care.”

If you want an unsafe stay AND to be completely ignored when it matters, Hotwire is your go-to. Otherwise, run far away.

Absolutely disgraceful.

Drop HotWire After 17 years

Hotwire used to provide detailed information regarding the total fees that you pay to them and the fees you pay at the property. Not anymore, just was charged $400 in resort fees, which I thought was collected in the taxes and fees line item. They have replaced all that crucial information with fine print that says there may be other charges for services and damages.

The trip management functionalities on the website do not work anymore. So get ready to look for contact information EVERYWHERE on their site.

If by any chance you find the customer service number using Google, be ready to be forwarded between Expedia and some poorly trained customer service that doesn't know how to solve any issues at least 10 times.

After repeating the reservation number 20 times they will tell you to make changes to your reservations, contact the hotel and airline directly. At the end you will lose your airfare and must re-book and a Hotel would be cheaper if you sign up for their reward program and deal with them directly.

I lost $500 on a non-refundable car…

I lost $500 on a non-refundable car rental through Hotwire and was offered zero flexibility—even after escalating to a supervisor. I’ve used Hotwire many times, but this experience made it clear they prioritize rigid policy over customer loyalty or fairness. The cancellation policy wasn’t prominent during booking, and when I asked for grace, I was denied flatly. Consider using a platform that values its users.

I feel I was ripped off

I feel I was ripped off and that fact that one cannot cancel a booking, even within a reasonable time window - like 30 minutes, or so - makes me believe that hotwire does not care about customer satisfaction. I've heard about hotwire from friends a while back and decided to give it a go for a one night stay in London. When I searched for hotels, it told me that the one I will end up staying will be similar to others I had looked at before I went onto hotwire. They were all highly rated: Citadines in Islington and hotels of the Hilton brand. I ended up at the Grange Portland near the British Museum. What a disappointment! It said in hotwires's confirmation email that it was a "hot rate hotel" and that it had restaurant(s), amongst other amenities. There was none. Hotel staff told me, if I wanted to have something to eat, I could order in or go to a restaurant nearby. I also didn't see a self-laundry facility in the hotel. The room was very dated and there was no air-conditioning. (You rate yourself has 'hot rated', in today's climate, you must have airconditioning) Overall it is a hotel I would have never picked. The staff was friendly, though, and the location convenient, but that was about it. When I wanted to leave feedback on hotwire (I clicked on a "thumbs down" in an email they sent me), there was no way for me to do so. Hotwire seems not to care at all about customers' experiences. I will not use this service again, nor can I recommend hotwire, let alone, the hotel.
