Save £10 when you order a HOTBIN Mini (100) with Plinth Bundle, click here to order HOTBIN Mini without a Plinth. The HOTBIN Mini is a small slimline hot composter designed for smaller gardens and for keen composters who have less waste. Made from a recyclable and super insulating material ARPRO. Half the volume of the HOTBIN (200), the HOTBIN Mini is a 100 litre unit which benefits from all of the features on the original HOTBIN model but on a smaller scale and footprint. Household Size: Average 1-2 person household with or without a small garden. Need any Woodchip? Excellent product as all waste is placed in and its composting nicely. No need for food caddies or extra bins from the council. Any waste left over at the end of the composting process can be used for your garden

As I have only just filled the bin, I cannot yet comment on the compost quality, but I have found the actual procedure easy going once I got the knack of 'feeding' the bin every other day; after first building up the thick base layer (as per the instruction leaflet, now laminated and hanging inside my allotment shed). Doing so, I found it got up to temperature, between 50 to 60 degrees, usually within 24-hours. Adding a small scoop of fish blood and bone, or chopped up comfrey per feed helps kickstart the process. Chopping and mixing thoroughly the green and brown mixture, not forgetting a couple of handfuls of woodchip, is the key. The build quality of the bin is excellent, having thick insulation and a well-fitting lid to retain heat. I'm also happy at buying the bundle that gives all you need to get cracking, including a hot water bottle to kickstart the process during colder months. This is my second hotbin composter, though, the first is of a different make and harder to get the hand of, so this original and best is by far the better. As for the cost - I see it as an investment towards making my own living compost filled with organic matter and good micro-organisms, unlike the sterile, often seed-filled stuff bought elsewhere. I wouldn't mind giving an update in three months as to the compost's quality if Trustpilot permits, but I am confident it'll be excellent.

What a thoughtful and helpful review, thank you.

It sounds like you’ve really found your rhythm with feeding, mixing and building the right base layer. Getting up to 50–60°C within 24 hours is a great sign that everything is working well.

Your point about chopping, mixing greens and browns, and ad
ding woodchip is spot on too, it’s often those small habits that make the biggest difference.

We also love the laminated instruction leaflet in the allotment shed, proper composting commitment! Happy hot composting!
