The hotbin is working extremely well. All food and garden waste is placed inside the bin and the contents are composting pretty quickly due to the heat generated. A good tip is to purchase a tap that is suitable for a 5L container as the thread is the same size as the outlet cap at the bottom of the bin. This makes it easier to empty the liquid that accumulates at the base which can be used for watering plants

Early days, looks promising, runs at about 40 deg. I think it will take 90 days. I add to the bin almost daily with garden and kitchen waste. Grass cutting seem to raise the temperature more than anything.

The Hotbin has been impressive in that, by following the instructions, the contents have been hot - very hot. However, I am unsure about the quality of the compost. After 60 days the compost looks quite wet and it contains large particles - it is not crumbly and friable. I hope this will improve over time.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s great to hear the HOTBIN has been performing as expected and reaching those high temperatures.

On the compost itself, what you’re describing after 60 days can be perfectly normal. HOTBIN compost doesn’t usually resemble bagged garden centre compost, and a
t this stage it is often still quite moist with some larger particles visible. Compost that has spent around 30 to 60 days in the bin is typically dark and nutrient-rich, with a mulch-like texture that’s ideal for beds and borders. If left to mature a little longer, it will continue to break down, developing a more earthy, crumbly texture over time. HOTBIN compost when harvested is typically wetter and less friable than bagged compost, but this is a good thing as the moisture is full of nutrients that feeds you soil and plants .

We appreciate your thoughtful feedback and hope you enjoy seeing how the compost continues to mature. Happy composting!

We’ve spent the last 2 months spending a lot of time to get it going. We’ve marked it lower because we don’t have cats nor do we normally have them in our allotment but the hot bin has attracted cats to climb up it - and the problem with this is that cats climbing up has taken small chunks out of the hot in and 10 of scratches on it. We’re gutted as for the whopping £300 cost after two weeks of owning theirs so many marks on the bin that have spoilt the outside look. Would be good if the bin could withstand garden wildlife

Sorry to read this, we completely understand.

HOTBIN is made from insulated EPP so it can hold the heat needed for hot composting, but we appreciate your disappointment about the marks on the outside of your bin. Cats aren’t something we hear about that often, so this is really useful feedback for
us to take on board. The lid does make a cosy sitting spot especially in warm weather.

Please do contact our Customer Service Team with a few photos of the surface marks and your bins location, and we’ll see if there is any advise we can give.

All the best
