Watch out with these guys

Watch out with these guys, They let your domains (even though set to auto-renew) expire and then say things like

"it appears the system did not process a renewal, or generate any kind of notice to yourself, or us to let us know that it was due for renewal."

At the time, they quoted the subsequent fee for reacuiring the domain, to be $3000 + VAT, needless to say hostinguk washed their hands of the problem, and I'm left without the domain....

I think they should've made right as it was their mistake.

In response, to HostingUK. We use your service so that we don't have to log in your portal to check the renewal dates. If your system can sometime not renew automatically despite being flagged to do so, then you understand why I have decided to provide 1 star.

I personally reviewed this matter with you in April 2024, when we carried out a detailed check of your account and the logs relating to this domain. At the time, we apologised that the domain had not automatically renewed.

Unfortunately, as almost a year had passed since the lapse, it had already returned to the open market and was reclassified by the Registry as a premium domain, which explains the higher price you mentioned.

Renewal dates are always visible within customer accounts, and many users choose to renew early to avoid risks of expiry. We strongly encourage this to help prevent similar issues.

We also contacted the Registry on your behalf to request a reduction in fees and confirmed we would cover any difference ourselves, but they did not alter their classification.

The domain is still available, and our latest check with Enom shows that the premium registration price has since been reduced.

We regret the inconvenience caused and hope this updated pricing helps you reclaim the domain if you wish to do so.

Started a company and needed a domain…

Started a company and needed a domain and email services. HostingUK were able to setup and get the service up and running very quickly and with no drama. Any issues were dealt with swiftly and easily.
Prices were competitive as were the annual renewals.
Can't really comment on the support and troubleshooting abilities as to be fair nothing went wrong, hosting worked, email worked, just what I needed.

You can trust Hosting UK

We had a problem with the email address for our website. Whilst Hosting UK hosts the email address, the website is hosted by a different company, and this can complicate the issue. Hosting UK staff were wonderfully patient, resourceful and encouraging over a period of several days, until the problem was resolved. They always responded swiftly and efficiently, leaving me feeling that I could trust them to find a solution.

Poor troubleshooting capabailities

Everytime I have an issue with this company (the current one is that emails on my services cannot be ised on Instantly for SMTP) it takes days to get any resolution, there is no responsibility taken to actually sort the isse - just batting it back.
I used to have 12 services with them, down to 3 now, soon to be one less. Stay away. There are much better (and cheaper) hosting companies out there (as I have discovered)

1st class company to deal with.

Excellent company to deal with.
I recently purchased an email hosting service and their support engineers were very patient with my lack of patience, due to my DNS taking time to propagate!. The dashboard is well layed out and easy to follow. Highly recommend hostingUK.

Resposive, helpful, friendly and great value

I was experiencing technical problems with my email. I contacted support and they responded quickly with clear instructions.

Speedy, efficient support as always.

I've been a happy customer with HostingUK for many years. Over those years I've had little need to seek support as the service is rock solid. Indeed, a while ago I migrated in (with their help) some domains I had with another host. It's always been my experience with HostingUK that if support is requested, it is given in a quick, friendly and efficient way through to resolution. That's been the case today also with the issue I contacted them about. First class as always.

Living off their older reputation I'm afraid

When they were United Hosting, they were fantastic.

However, after the takeover a few years ago, I stayed with their separated part of the business and at first, things continued to be good. I have currently multiple sites and services hosted with them.

However, if I'm being brutally honest, in comparison to similar providers (particularly in the UK) I have started to find their services outdated, slow, poor-performing and unreliable.

Their support team is always responsive, but often feel like it's the luck of the drawer who deals with your query. Some people are quick and resolve the issues, whereas other times I feel like there's a lack of technical knowledge and I end up explaining the issue after my own research - not something I should be doing taking into account what I pay for.

I've had many issues with site performance which go left unexplained and unresolved. They always claim it's my fault and that I should work with my developer. I did - and guess what - it's their poorly configured servers causing the issue (again).

I'll be honest, this company is still living off the reputation it rightly gained while as United Hosting. However, this reputation will not last much longer if things do not improve.

Unless you're a large company with money to throw away, I'd have to be honest and advise you to look elsewhere. Despite the fact their staff are friendly and quick to reply, you don't receive the technical service you should for the prices they charge.

Just as an additional note: I've stated above how the staff are always good. This isn't 100% true. There are 1/2 members who will often come across a little curt and patronising. I'm not going to mention names, but looking at other reviews, it appears we've not been alone.

I'm currently in the process of looking into alternate hosts, however, it appears that in the UK, we're not blessed with many!
