Unreliable car service - don't use without a backup plan!

We have used them a few times to pick up my daughter from school, and for the most part it's gone smoothly, but frequently they haven't been able to find a driver to accept the ride until the last minute, which has been stressful. Today they never found a driver (even though I submitted the request two days ago, and earlier in the day they twice reassured me that they would definitely find a driver) so they canceled her ride thirty minutes before pickup. I'm out of town and my husband ended up having to leave work to drive to her school and bring her home. This service is clearly not reliable, which means it is not fulfilling its purpose. We will have to figure out a different solution from now on for those times when neither of us can pick up our kid because there is no point in using an unreliable car service for our child.

The worst customer service and support

The worst customer service and support. They are not helpful with anything. They tell you to call during certain hours, but they only work a few hours, and even during those times, they are not available. No matter what you ask, they never help or take any action. The only reason I am doing this is because I need cash, but their customer service is terrible. Overall, the experience is very poor, and I’m not even sure they are willing to help. Honestly, they should not be in business at all.

We've been testing HopSkipDrive — a school pickup service similar to Uber for kids — over the past several weeks. Their early performance was excellent. Reliable drivers, professional service. We were recommending them to other families.

Until this morning.

Our boys had an 8:30 AM pickup for elementary school. We heard nothing from the driver or HopSkipDrive until 8:32, which was well after the scheduled departure time. No warning. No call. I had to drive them myself, arriving 30 minutes late to a meeting.

Here's the real issue: HopSkipDrive's support team admitted they knew an hour in advance the driver was running late. An hour. Had we been told, we could have made other arrangements (or better yet, THEY could have found another driver). But, that information was never shared.

To parents considering this service: the concept is solid, but reliability and communication are non-negotiable when kids are involved. Today, HopSkipDrive failed on both counts. They offered a credit, promised a manager callback and said “better luck next time.” Only the credit materialized.

HopSkipDrive — we want to trust you again. But trust requires transparent explanations of what failed and concrete changes to prevent it. Parents are watching.

They pay their drivers about $4.00 a…

They pay their drivers about $4.00 a hour after unpaid time, effort, gas, insurance, maintenance and deprecation on your car and treat their drivers like peasants and objects. You are not a human with them. They except so, so much from you but they give a driver so little as humanly possible. If you plan to driver for them, run, run don't walk.

Do not use this service

Do not use this service, they do not have the kids best interest and could care less about children. I'm stuck with them for another 5 days because of a fostering situation and cannot wait to get them out of my life. They've had my kids wait MULTIPLE times an hour past their pickup time because of drivers canceling last minute. Their response, tell the kids to just wait...cool, a 6 1/2 year old and 12 year old to just wait unattended. This company is awful

BEWARE: CHILD SAFETY AND DRIVER REPUTATION, DON’T RIDE, DON’T DRIVE WITHOUT DASH CAM WITHOUT DATA BACKUPS!

My driver contract was terminated 2 days after I reported to driver support a person who claimed to be a close associate of Hop Skip and Drive who threatened me. 3 days later I thought my interview with the safety department was going to be about the report I made but they asked questions about physical contact with a child. I NEVER TOUCHED A CHILD! In their email they “determined that your conduct breached the Terms of Use.” and made my termination permanent. Retaliation or coincidence? No report was made to law enforcement. No response to my replied emails for my offers of a lie detector test and dash cam recordings with daily backups. FOR BOTH CHILD SAFETY AND DRIVER REPUTATION, DON’T RIDE, DON’T DRIVE WITHOUT DASH CAM WITHOUT DATA BACKUPS!

They don’t care about your children

They don’t care about your children. I was deactivated because my metrics took a dive after I agreed to arrive later for the pickup of a 7 year old boy. HopSkipDrive would prefer that we drop the children off, as young as 7 years old in the dark in Detroit. I was doing the right thing. I figured the child would arrive to school just as the school doors are opening and he wouldn’t be left alone. Shortly after that, my driver metrics fell. I never even knew we had a driver metrics, and I never received a driver success card. Hop Skip Drive never showed me my metrics previously. I never knew my numbers. HopSkipDrive trust and safety team refused to do a thorough investigation, they refuse to contact the child’s mother to confirm my story. They would rather a driver leave a seven-year-old boy outside in the cold alone and the dark in the streets of Detroit then arrive a few minutes later I was a driver for three years and they banned me. While they allow other drivers on the platform to continue to drive. I’ve heard numerous complaints from my young riders that their driver was speeding, one even saw a beer bottle upfront with their driver, another one had multiple drivers were rude to her. When the mother complained, Hop Skip did nothing and allowed the drivers to continue to drive. They don’t care. They never gave me a second chance. The appeal process is a joke. If you sign up with Hop Skip be mindful that your child may be put in danger.
