Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs! We placed an order in May 2024 for our dream kitchen and it is still not completed over a year later. Schmidt Reading went into administration but we thought that we were protected by the parent company guarantee and our order was transferred to Schmidt Beaconsfield to complete in December 2024. Over 5 months later and they have failed to complete our kitchen which we had to pay for up front before delivery. Communication is awful, simply ignoring issues which should have been completed during the initial installation. What was supposed to be a dream has turned into a nightmare.

Poor experience

Very poor experience with Schmidt Head Office. After spending around £40,000 on a kitchen, we are left with defective installation, a rejected TV/media unit, and damage to our property caused by their fitters and transport agents.

Despite months of complaints, no one from Schmidt ever attended our home to inspect the issues. Instead, Customer Support repeatedly dismissed our concerns without addressing obvious faults.

Escalation was pointless. Emails were ignored, senior management and even the director refused to engage, and we were simply told the matter was “closed” and to deal with the showroom. Warranty support was even implied to be conditional on paying disputed “goodwill” charges — an astonishing position.

Schmidt promotes itself as a premium brand with strong guarantees. In reality, once payment is made, Head Office offers no accountability, no inspection, and no meaningful support.

Think very carefully before choosing Schmidt.

Our experience with Schmidts has been poor

Our experience with Schmidts has been poor. Trying to do sneaky moves for their mistake like:
1) when moving the dishwasher from one room to the kitchen , they broke the leg of a dishwasher and scratched the floors, then said they didn’t do non of this.
2) installing some of the electrical features incorrectly
3) Push you to buy their appliance 3 times higher than One can get at another place, then penalize you if you do
4) improperly measuring the countertops and then not properly giving one the date of the new installation.

Avoid

Avoid. Don´t make the mistake we made thinking that Schmidt would offer a seamless process for the relatively high price. We had problems from Day One with Schmidt.
- The kitchen was badly designed.
- The opportunity to check the design in the space was missed because Schmidt failed to fulfil their promise to check the kitchen worked in the space available.
- Although we called to warn Schmidt the kitchen was too big, our designer was on holiday and we were assured the installer would still come. By the time he did come the kitchen had been manufactured and Schmidt refused to amend the design.
- We had to pay to build smaller units to avoid the kitchen blocking access to the doorway. It´s standard to allow 10-30cms between the end of a unit and a doorway.
- The kitchen was delivered without an integrated light switch and Schmidt expected us to find a contractor to find a solution onsite.
- The kitchen was delivered minus top units and the sink.
- The fitter has left the site with the kitchen unfinished because Schmidt are now trying to track down the sink and top units.
Save your money and months of stress. Shop elsewhere.

Very good costumer experience

Our designer demonstrated a very good active listening and she suggested project perfectly in line with our initial ideas. Her professionalism was useful to drive our decision. The project was esthetic and optimized.

Expensive brand does not live up to its reputation

Where to start, kitchen cupboards not the ones chosen, worktops not the lengths specified, area allowance for range 4mm too small rather than 4mm bigger to allow for it to be inserted, dropped the fridge door damaging it badly and a door poorly made so the handle will not fit on. 17 weeks on still waiting for Schmidt to rectify the problems. I now have the help of the town mediator and some communication is happening. A very poor after sales service and all interest in you is lost after you sign the initial contract. Would not recommend this rather expensive brand.

This was a nightmare from beginning to…

This was a nightmare from beginning to end and the French parent company have compounded the issue. We ordered bedroom units from the shop in Altrincham. What followed was a catalogue of errors including the 'designer' measuring the units wrongly, parts being delivered in the wrong sizes, the wrong colours, and long delays for replacements. The fitters made many visits and went away frustrated. We were left with partly finished units, bits strewn about the room, and an unusable bedroom for weeks on end. the fitters did return and nearly got the work finished apart for some snagging and we withheld the final payment until it was fixed. I spoke to the shop manager and designer a number of times and compensation was promised for all the hassle. Finally all went quiet and we subsequently found out the shop had gone into administration. We had to chase up with the parent company in France. After further delay they said they would do nothing until the final payment was made and only then would they get someone to come from another branch and sort the outstanding issues. They explained, via the manager of the other shop, that each shop is a separate business and they are not responsible if that business fails. There was mention of the administrator for the failed business. I pointed out that if I were to agree to pay outstanding funds to a third party the administrator may not be impressed, and I'm not sure it would be legal? Seemed to me to be one 'creditor' bypassing the system? All in all an extremely poor experience made worse by the lack of assistance from the parent company.
