I visit this store for my favourite…

I visit this store for my favourite hobby art painting, it excites me to the bone knowing I have to go to hobbycraft, the range of art supplies is just unique, for me personally if I need a certain paint colour today, I would pop down there and get rather than order online 😊

Awful experience misleading information

Awful experience niece ordered online to collect in store which says collect from 1hr all items were in stock in chosen store as we checked but there was a online code which meant 9 year old niece could get more for her pocket money and treat her mum for mothers day, went to store several hours later for order to not be ready shop wouldnt pick the order when we arrived and would not let us pick the items ourselves even though they were paid for. Niece was so upset as was gifts and crafts for mothers day please remove 1hr time from online if you cant fulfill it that makes it sound like you can go same day yet person in shop said it could be tomorrow. Misleading advertisment quick enough to take money but not provide products. Will be taking her else were to spend her pocket money in future.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your recent experience in store. We understand that this is disappointing and we are sorry that we did not meet that expectation in this instance. The collection period is one hour, and we highly recommend confirming the receipt of the collection email prior to visiting the store to retrieve the parcel. However, please be assured that we do value your feedback and we will pass this onto the correct team so that it can be used to make any improvements to our service.

Why shopping online is preferable

Today I had a horrible shopping experience at Hobbycraft, Stanway, Colchester. It all started when I was looking at acrylic paint and there wasn’t a price visible for the Daley Rowney Graduate Acrylic tubes. Fortunately, there was a member of staff in the same aisle a few feet away from me putting things on a shelf. I said, showing her the item - ‘excuse me, sorry to interrupt you but do you know the price of this?’ She said ‘the price is up there’ and walked over to the display. There was no price and I said ‘if the price was there, I wouldn’t have asked you.’ She said in quite an abrupt manner – well, I didn’t know the price wasn’t there. She walked off without saying anything else and returned a few minutes later whereby she scanned the item and told me the price. I said thank you and she walked off. I later discovered that she is the manageress. I carried on shopping and when I got to the till, in addition to the items in my basket, I had 3 bolts of fabric and had to ask for assistance to reach a fourth on the shelf – which I received. Initially, I asked for a metre off one bolt, but before it was cut, I asked for it to be half a metre. The staff member who was assisting the young man on the till, was about to cut the fabric when I noticed that she was going to cut it through the width and I queried this – a discussion ensued between her, the young man (who told me that I didn’t have to buy it) and myself about how to cut fabric from a bolt and they called the manageress - whom I had already encountered. She agreed with them and I was trying to explain that when you buy fabric if it 100cm wide you are buying a metre or half a metre by 100cm. You don’t cut a metre up the middle of the width. But I was told that this is how they always do it and I could see that they were getting annoyed with me, so I told them just do what you want. Anyway, I got my four bolts of fabric cut (by the manageress) and the young man continued to ring up my items. Once paid for and I had my receipt, I decided to check the total as I had seen as I walked in the door and at the till that if you spent £40 you got £10 off. Sure enough, the ten pounds had not been deducted. I asked the young man about this and was told that it had to be requested! Are you kidding me! Didn’t say that on the signs! I asked if it could be refunded to my card and he had to call the manageress again for help. Turns out a refund could not be issued – the whole transaction had to be voided and the whole lot put through the till again! While I was shopping, I knew that I was spending quite a lot and it did occur to me to split my shopping and get the discount twice, but I didn’t do that. I packed my shopping into my own bag the first-time round, but the second time the member of staff (young man) did it and just chucked things in the bag with no care at all. I knew that he and the manageress were annoyed – as was I, so when the final total was reached, which was only £6.00 less than the original total, I couldn’t be bothered to question it. The first total was £86.40 and the second total was £80.40
During all of this the tone of these members of staff was unfriendly, somewhat rude and it seemed that they did not enjoy their jobs nor care about the image of the company. Granted no-one wants an awkward customer (and I have worked in retail) but I don’t think I was being overly difficult.
The moral of the story is shop online where you don’t have to deal with unpleasant, poorly trained staff and also, you are unlikely to impulse buy which I did to the tune of about £30.00.

Gift voucher purchase

I visited the Hobbycraft store in Exeter to purchase a gift voucher. The lady who served me was bright and cheerful, and very helpful in answering my questions about the voucher.

False advertising bundles despite stock

Attempted to order a Cricut Maker 4 with free hot iron. Despite having both in stock the ‘bundle’ was unavailable. Attempted to use the help chat but they said only so many allowed. Tough. I was going to spend nearly £1000 on this. I won’t be now. Not at Hobby Craft anyway. If there is stock and you advertise a bundle you should honour this, or it is false advertising

A very good cake decorating section too

I was pleasantly surprised visiting our local store for the first time in years. This is apart from the fact it's a well stocked store with a really comprehensive range of fabrics, paper crafts, et cetera. What surprised me is how good their cake decorating section was. They had so many different kinds of icing, fondant, decorations, a really thorough selection.

Disappointing Return Policy

I recently purchased a Cricut EasyPress 3 from the Hobbycraft store in Crewe. Unfortunately, the product did not meet my needs, so I contacted them to return it shortly after purchase.

To my surprise, I was told that because the box had been opened, they could not accept the return unless the item was faulty. This was very disappointing. As a customer, it’s impossible to know whether a product will meet your needs without opening the box and trying it.

In my experience, most retailers understand this and offer a more customer-friendly return policy. This was the first time I’ve encountered such a rigid approach.

I was expecting better customer service from a well-known retailer like Hobbycraft. Unfortunately, this experience has made me hesitant to shop there again.

Ridiculous

My order got lost and I had to ask for a refund. I won't be ordering anything on line from Hobby Craft again.

UPDATE!! I received a very cheeky email from them saying that the Glasgow store claims that I had picked the item up and that they will be forced to check the cctv footage to prove their point.
You carry on checking your cctv hobby craft!!! All you'll see is me walking into your store picking up 2 packets of pens and walking over to the cash desk where i stand and complain to the staff member of the terrible service I had on your online shop. Please bare in mind that I had already received a refund from you and the order states that the pens in question had been returned and I have screenshots of the "help" chat apologising for the delay, blaming the courier.

Still waiting for an apology!!!
Still waiting!!! 16/03/2026

I bought 2 Faber-Castell 9000 pencils…

I bought 2 Faber-Castell 9000 pencils from Hobbycraft Truro. There was no price visible on the stand and it seems that I was charged £2.80 per pencil.
I checked this price when I got home because it seemed extortionate. The price with comparable suppliers was £1.60. When I double checked with Hobbycraft that I had been charged the correct price I was told , ‘I don’t know what to say . Different suppliers charge different prices , but you can have a refund.”
So if I want to drive 46 miles I can get a refund. I won’t do that , but what I will do is avoid Hobbycraft in future. I have always known that Hobbycraft is ridiculously expensive but I think that a difference of £1.20 per pencil is beyond paying for the convenience of being able to just walk in and buy something.

It's disappointing to hear about the lack of visible pricing and the perceived overcharge for the Faber-Castell 9000 pencils. We strive to offer competitive pricing and a better shopping experience, and it seems we fell short in this instance. We appreciate feedback as it helps us improve our services.

Unable to order.

I tried to order materials from Hobbycraft this evening but was unable to progress past the mandatory requirement for a mobile phone number - I do not have a mobile phone. I then tried to submit a complaint, using the advertised link buttons for both Email and Contact Form - neither worked. Consequently - One Star.

I ordered a craft desk from hobbycraft…

I ordered a craft desk from hobbycraft at the beginning of January this year. I was missing a side tray support, so I emailed them. I have now been going back and forth via email trying to get the part sent to me,it tool over a month to be told it comes from a supplier that supplied the desk so can we give them ur name and address to send you the part? Now all I've had is we are waiting to hear from our purchasing team. Over the last year I've spent £100s with this company trying to get my candle making off the ground and wanted the desk for my diamond painting. I feel like they can't be bothered to sort this for me and they are hoping if they leave it long enough I will just give up, there's not even been a good will gesture off some money off for the missing part and time wasted waiting for them to reply to me. I think they no longer care how much their customers spend with them.i have now deleted the app from my phone and will be going elsewhere for my art supplies.

We are sorry to hear of your experience, it can take time for our suppliers to provide components in the unfortunate event that parts are missing, We remain committed to resolving the issue as soon as possible and will of course be in contact as soon as we have an update to share. As always if unhappy with the item owing to the issue you can certainly get back in touch with us to arrange full return for a complete refund or exchange, As we appreciate the rest of the item is likely built this will be the reason behind doing all we can to source the missing part. Thank you for your continued patience and please do get back in touch if you have any other questions in the meantime so the team can best help.
