Didn’t honor website price
I used Hertz.com to rent an 8-seat vehicle at Salt Lake City, Utah. I needed the 8 seats because my whole family was in town for a wedding. I was thrilled that Hertz had the option to book an 8-seater online…. But then I arrived and the customer service representative told me that I didn’t book at 8-seater and if I wanted it, it would be an extra $200+ on top of the nearly $400 I’d already spent. I had literally no choice as we were already there and needed the vehicle.
The car itself was nice and drop off was easy, but the poor user interface and customer service really put a damper on the whole trip.
I expected much better since my husband is a Hertz Gold member, but we were severely disappointed.
I’ve rented from this Hertz location…
I’ve rented from this Hertz location multiple times and the customer service has consistently been exceptional. David, Luis the manager, Vincent, Esteban, and J have always treated me with kindness, patience, professionalism, and respect.
Life can become overwhelming at times, and one thing I truly appreciate is dealing with people who remain courteous and understanding while still maintaining professionalism. Every interaction I’ve had at this location has reflected that.
The team is attentive, welcoming, and always willing to help find solutions when possible. It’s rare these days to encounter genuine customer service, but this location has a staff that truly cares about people. Thank you all for your continued kindness and hard work. Wishing blessings over your entire team.
Beware of Hertz Bastia!
Think twice before you rent a car @ Hertz Bastia. When returning the car, the employee of Hertz told me there were scratches on the car and that I caused it. It would cost me € 600. I refused, because I am a 100% sure I didn't cause any damage to the car. The employee told me they would start a legal procedure. So beware of these practices of Hertz Bastia! My advice is to go elsewhere. Enough car rental options in Bastia.
They rented a car with a faulty …
They rented a car with a faulty airbag. Told us it was fine. The lady at the exit gate said not to worry about it. This company is a joke. Don't rent any car from them.
Good car for our needs.
Good car for our needs.
Overall good experience, pick-up from machine, car clean, with a few bumps and scratches. (Take video and photos before leaving car park). Toyota Corolla Cross was good, economical and easy to drive.
Return was also good, with key drop-off box, (Don't forget to drop key before going through security!!)
One query on bill, was that we paid for parking in Stavanger in a carpark, but a charge appearedo n our statement for the same location and time? Worth letting customers know that this is how it works in Norway.
Would use Hertz again.
Had a flight change beyond my control…
Had a flight change beyond my control and I still had to pay for the extra day. Thanks ill find a new rental company.
Renter Beware
To start off, I’m a President’s Circle member.
They don’t care about their customers at all; For my reservation of a Toyota Tundra in Jackson, MS, they only allowed me to prepay the booking.
When my plans were all thrown for a loop, it was impossible to change anything. They even threatened me with a $100 cancellation fee when they couldn’t make any alterations or work with me. After 3 hours of trying to do something about my reservation, I gave up. When I arrived they didn’t have the vehicle I requested nor an equivalent in class vehicle…after all of that. We picked a downgraded class (hertz offered no fare different or anything) and when we got the car it reeked of marijuana.
When I contacted customer service after the fact for remediation, they initially deflected on my concerns and proceeded to gaslight me that I accepted the car. As someone who travels a lot and books cars multiple times per year, it’s ridiculous that they couldn’t work with me at all in any way shape or form. I will never book with Hertz again. If you want some more color, look at all of the scandals and lawsuits they’ve had in the last ten years.
Absolutely terrible company. Terrible customer service.
I encourage Hertz to improve pricing transparency
I recently completed a rental with Hertz and wanted to share feedback regarding my billing experience.
I made my reservation in advance and prepaid the full rental amount, expecting that to cover all applicable charges. I also returned the vehicle approximately two hours earlier than the scheduled return time. However, after my trip, I received an additional invoice for $60.48, which appears to consist of taxes and fees that were not included in the original prepaid total.
This was both confusing and frustrating. If these charges are mandatory, they should be clearly disclosed and included in the upfront price at the time of booking. Receiving unexpected fees after the fact undermines trust and makes it difficult to accurately budget for travel.
I encourage Hertz to improve pricing transparency so customers are not surprised by post-rental charges.
I rented a car online hours in advance…
I rented a car online hours in advance for pickup at the Baton Rouge, LA airport. I arrive at the counter and they tell me they need 15 minutes to get the car ready. 20 minutes later they tell me they need five minutes longer to clean the car. I am still waiting for my car......
Rented me a truck with a small dent in…
Rented me a truck with a small dent in the tail gate and is charging me 2000 dollars for a 1000 dollar repair for damage I did not do nor was done in the time the truck was in my possession. The truck also was pretty dusty and smelled like marijuana when I received it. They charged me 300 dollars for a 100 tank of gas, I knew there would be a service fee but 200 dollars is a bit ridiculous. Apparently I miss understood when the guy at the counter said 4.95 a gallon if I didn’t bring it back full. I do not recommend nor will I ever use hertz again
What a nightmare
What a nightmare! Renter beware.
My husband and I reserved a vehicle from Hertz Online. The dates 4-08-4-13. $385 in total.
We visited the Urbandale location and were met by an agent by the name of John. John was anxious when renting to us and began talking about an impending war in the US and he has friends that serve. Which I thought was odd behavior.
Next, when he checked us out, my husband pulled out his credit card and John reached over and snatched it without going over any details of the rental agreement. As a former claims adjuster/renter for the past 30 years, this was unusual- I thought agents were supposed to inspect the vehicle prior to renting, so every party is on the same page. Discuss insurance, discuss fuel return. That never happened. Instead, he pointed to the minivan and said, "that's it" - we headed to the van and left. He advised it was not a full tank.
We advised, we always fill up prior to returning a rental.
We went on our trip, on our way back we had our first rain - we went to use the wipers, and one was damaged halfway falling off. We also noticed it had a rock chip center of the windshield.
We filled up the tank, took photos because I always document EVERYTHING. Parked in front of the store at 11:48 am with a return time of Noon. Took photos of the vehicle upon return and when I entered the Urbandale location, a young woman was sitting there not working. A male was working with another customer. I told her we were returning the van, did she want to come and inspect. She said, no we will look later. I thought that was out of protocol, and both parties should inspect upon return. That is not Hertz's procedure apparently.
We filled the tank prior to returning as well. We left and the next day, we received an invoice for $753. A charge for fuel and late return. This was fabricated and I contacted John. He said he had no idea how we were overcharged. I asked for him to look into this as we did ALL on our end to return the vehicle before it was due, plus cleaned the car (picked up) no trash and parked directly in front of HERTZ door. After escalating and informing the company of how I think this store needs MORE training, they were dismissive and did issue a refund after two weeks.
Horrible experience and I would definitely not recommend this location at all. This company opens themselves up to major liability risks when they don't listen to their customers tell them in feedback how they can improve. I felt compelled to let other consumers know my experience. Poor experience all together.
they dont fully disclose charges
they dont fully disclose charges. lots of surprises. bait and switch tactics. pressure to buy their insurance. not good communicating.
Fantastic experience with Hertz in Malta
Fantastic experience really. Can't complain at all.
I had to book a car at short notice for 10 days, and the staff were fantastic, the car was fantastic, and it was very easy for me to pick up the motor.
There were additional charges (the original price on the website had a 10k euro charge, so it doubled from the normal price...
... But it's a hire car company. As it was I had a premium service and an excellent car with no worries at all for about €50 per day which is fine by me.
Will be using them again for sure
Another issue with hertz
Another issue with hertz! Booked a mid size car, I arrived they said they had non left, they had just SUV and wanted to charge full price. I said no, they offered a smaller car that doesn't fit 1 luggage in the back.
I am extremely disappointed.
Very disappointing experience with Hertz
Very disappointing experience with Hertz, mainly due to inconsistent communication and handling of a clear issue.
I explicitly informed the agent that I would be travelling across multiple countries (Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary) and paid for cross-border authorization. Despite this, I was not informed about Austria’s mandatory motorway vignette, which resulted in a fine.
What is particularly concerning is that Hertz initially acknowledged in writing that this requirement had not been communicated, yet later responses completely ignored this point and relied only on generic “driver responsibility” arguments.
This is not about disputing the fine itself, but about the failure to provide essential information in a cross-border rental context. A vignette system is not comparable to typical traffic rules such as speeding or parking – it is a country-specific requirement that is not obvious to foreign drivers.
In addition, the vehicle initially provided did not match the booked category, requiring an extra trip back to the airport to resolve the issue.
Overall, the experience reflects poor communication and lack of consistency in customer handling.
Very Poor Experience with Hertz – Not Recommended disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with Hertz and I would not recommend this company to anyone.
I had a confirmed reservation and €135 was already charged from my card. However, when I arrived to pick up the car, they refused to give me the vehicle. Their justification was that I did not have a plane ticket, which makes no sense. Just one week earlier, I rented a car from the airport without any issue or requirement for a flight ticket.
Despite having a valid booking, they were completely uncooperative and did not offer any solution. I tried contacting customer service multiple times, but no one responded.
As a result, I was left in a very difficult situation with important appointments to attend. I had no choice but to take the train, which cost me an additional €21, and I arrived late because of their actions.
This kind of service is unacceptable and highly unprofessional. The way they treated a paying customer is simply not right.
Overall, a very poor experience. I strongly advise others to avoid dealing with Hertz.
Honored rate
We flew into MDW today and upon exit, I learned I didn’t have my drivers license. My husband was going to create a new reservation which was double the rate in which I had. Alexis helped us and was able to honor the rate I had. We were very thankful. She was very helpful and patient with us.
Outrageously last minute cancellation by Hertz
This is our second time using Hertz to hire a van, and I can only advise you to never try it yourself! We were treated outrageously badly. Only the day before our house move, we received an app alert that our booking had been updated. We logged on and found that our booking had disappeared. Of course, Hertz don’t provide a customer service number to call, so even in these emergency instances you are destined to struggle with an insanely slow and unhelpful customer chat service. We were informed that the booking had been cancelled because the vehicle was “no longer available”. We explained that this is outrageous and put our entire house move into jeopardy. The customer service agent simply said sorry and said she couldn’t provide any alternative or solution. It’s completely unacceptable and makes it impossible to rely on their service in future. This was our second time trying out their hire service, having the first time had many difficulties with their ancient app interface, which meant that one of the additional drivers could not verify his account until halfway through the hire period. Again, customer service were completely unhelpful that time too.
Careful bookng Hertz...confirm rez
Booked my flight and then airline site asks if i want to make a Hertz reservation.
I made one for an EV and the day before the trip, I wanted to change to a hybrid (which was an avail option when I first booked)
Told no EV nor hybrid carried at that location. Told I could arrive and see what other type/cars remain in inventory.
If nothing in inventory, I was out of luck? What's the point of making a reservation with Hertz if the initial options do not apply to this location and I'm rolling the dice on arrival?
Nice way to treat customers and run a business model.
Bad service. ...
I had booked a car 4 days a ago. I was told to wait till Thursday. I went from Slough to Marble Arch just to find out that they haven't got the car. You should have atleast informed me about it. I waited days for the car and came all the way for nothing. Very disappointed about this. I was waiting without work. I wanted to start today thinking that i will get the car. If you didn't have a car to give, you should have let me know straight away. So bad service.......they don't no nothing they didn't give me any answer...they took the deposit ,after denying me the car they told me to wait for 15days for the refund.
