Took forever to get my rental on my trip to Knoxville because their system mixed me up with someone else
Horrible, horrible, horrible.
I hate that I had to give them any starts. I was renting a car at the Raleigh Durham Airport and although I had reserved the car days before I didn’t get the quick check in I had been promised. It took almost 2 hours to get a car I booked and had been confirmed. There’s too many good companies out there to waste time and money on Hertz.

I didn't get the car I had requested. And of the options that were available, both smelled like cigarettes.
Inappropriate behaviour
No welcome word, Car or similar required not available, associates not kind at all and laughing on me - the manager asked if my husband spoke with a better English than me- Inappropriate and very disrespectful language. I was very bad starting my vacation in Kauai, Hawai.

Car had awful disinfectant smell
Car had awful disinfectant smell. The rental desk kept trying to sell me the insurance I did not want, and they tagged on a charge for fuel that I specifically did not want.
Hertz should be better than this...
When I dropped off the vehicle to the agency, I felt like my presence was more of an inconvenience than a welcomed customer. I had to wait for a personal conversation to end between the two agents on duty at the time. There wasn't a greeting, eye contact or thank you from the agent that took the time to ask me how she could help me, with her back to me and while she walked to fulfill some other more important task.

Of all the Hertz locations where I have ever rented a car, the SFO rental car center is my favorite. I have never had any trouble getting an excellent car here, and getting in and out of the center is very easy.

In March of 2026 I rented a VW SUV for my daughters wedding in Phoenix. I have rented off Thriftys/Hertz many, many times over the years without issues.
Unfortunately this rental had a tailgate sensor issue so my tailgate opened while vehicle was moving, without any warning or notice? Total malfunction!
Unfortunately my adult son's suitcase slid out of the vehicle en route to airport without our knowledge.
sadly Ive been dealing with various groups inside Thriftys as they pass me around from customer service right through to risk/ insurance depts. My son lost all his formal clothes, jewelry, vacation clothes & purchases.... some 3000$ worth of stuff.
Clearly Thriftys is avoiding the claim & is doing everything possible to avoid paying or assuming any liability.
I suggested vehicle be immediately checked for safety reasons but Insurance/ Liability claims manager cant even conduct vehicle technical review after months to confirm the issue. Just a joke.
As a retired CEO im shocked at the incompetence & lack of communication Ive received with this still unresolved incident after many many months.
Clearly customer service is dead & company only cares about the $$$. No responsibility for the failure , no concern of safety for subsequent customers!
Stay clear of this organization.... they wont have your back if a serious incident occurs!
I booked my pco rent to buy car on 12th…
I booked my pco rent to buy car on 12th of June and supposed to pick up at 15th of July .
App show me the location to pick my car from Edgware Road . I booked taxi spend 1 hour . When I asked them they did not have no idea where my car is .
Then manager from Herts manager said I can collect it today from ikea Wembley .
I went back on taxi and again went to Wembley from Slough .
In office there was one lady who does not know anything and said she is just there for cleaning and there is no one who can hand over me the car and ask me to come back again tomorrow . Then I saw the car in parking with the number plate it was showing on my app and the car don’t have pco license on it . That means car is not ready to collect .
I have already spend 200£ just to visit Herts offices and they have to worst customer service with 0 knowledge.
This is worst company with that big name . Unbelievable service and they are holding my deposit from a month .

Made a Hertz reservation on-line
Made a Hertz reservation on-line, May 5 2026 my only option, as I could not directly reserve at local Hertz car rental. Told by on-line agent a $125.96 fee was needed as a deposit and would be returned to me upon return of the rental car. Local agent reported they had not gotten my accurate personal contact from on-line agent and had to modify my request for another less expensive rental. Local agent confirmed the $125.96 was a deposit that would be returned upon return of the rental. The local agent stated Herz doesn't provide anything in writing regarding the 'deposit charges', but assured me upon return of the car I would get the deposit credited to my card. I returned the rental the next day after picking up car. The local agent gave me a total charge that excluded the $125.96 but I never got the deposit charge credited to my credit card. Five days after returning the car I get an email May 11 2026 from Hertz where the $125.96 charge is explained as fees for booking and nonrefundable', "A mandatory, non-refundable agency service fee will be applied to all transactions, including new bookings, changes, refunds, and cancellations. These fees are charged per passenger, or on a per-reservation basis, as detailed in your booking confirmation.The final total price quoted for your booking is inclusive of both the "Car Amount" and the non-refundable 'Service Fee."
I've had to get help from 'card services' from my bank. Impossible to get credit for a 'deposit' when Hertz doesn't (deliberately) indicate a 'deposit' charge on any of their paper work. The on-line agent and per Hertz late 'policy explanation' are orchestrated deliberate mis-representation for charges applied. I Will never use Hertz car rental

Efficient & helpfull staff. Decent vehicles and easy in/out of the location.
Thankful for the accommodations
I ended up arriving at the airport hours sooner than the expected time. So I was going to have to wait for my reservation. I spoke to the lady at the front desk and they found me something similar and I was able to leave sooner in my rental rather than wait 3-4 hours at the airport.
Great customer service
Even in a tricky situation with many cars out because of weather they made sure I had a car and it was clean.
Reservation location switch
When making the reservation at the COS airport, the Hertz software gave me a reservation for a Hertz counter in downtown Colorado Springs, causing a $60 Uber ride to pickup the vehicle. This location was not what I planned or asked for. The representative at the airport had seen this complaint before. This needs to be fixed.
Horrible first experience
First time renting a car/truck and the communication and transparency about certain charges was minimal to none. They ended up giving me another truck because they didn’t have what I initially asked for which is not a big issue. The issues is that there were charges made in my credit card for almost double the initial amount. During my stay at Colorado I had to go the hertz office twice with no one able to give me answers. I got told a region manager was going to look at my case and get back to me. I went back to the office to see if he did and he ended up going in vacation after knowing of my situation and didn’t even address it. They gave me his email so he could respond to me at his earliest convenience and he never reached back to me. His name is Andrew Parrish. The amount that ended up making my price almost double ended up being credited back to my credit card. If I ever rent a car again it won’t be through Hertz. This was by far a huge headache for me when I should have been enjoying my daughter’s week softball tournament. The amount that they took out of my credit card ended up making me budget everything since they took money I was depending on using during my stay.
