Hertz has been pretty great, but the speed of getting cars is just annoyingly slow. I have rented cars twice in the last month, one at the IAD airport where it took me almost an hour to get a car. An... See more

Hertz Damaged Car SCAM
Within 30 minutes of returning my car to an HNL (where there was NO human present as it was an after hours return), I was emailed a damage report from the "AI" scanners used at the location. They sent photos of light refraction which were taken upon return, but sent no photos of any actual dents, scratches, impact, paint transfer, or other physical damage. I have tried several times to resolve this directly with Hertz. Since the date of the claim, I have called five times leaving VMs and emailed twice over the past 1.5 months and have received NO response. This has been particularly concerning because the indicating payment was due within that timeferame, leaving me without an opportunity to discuss or clarify the claim before the stated deadline. I am not sure why it’s my responsibility to chase Hertz here. Had I known Hertz was SCAMMING people for money in this way, I would have stuck to my long-time rental car company National Car Rental who was charging an incremental amount more but are at least honest.
Shame on UK Customer Service,
Dear Hertz UK Customer Service,
I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction regarding my recent car rental with Hertz at Edinburgh Airport (Rental Agreement: 245987722, from August 2 to August 7, 2026).
During this rental period, I experienced a series of severe mechanical and service issues that significantly impacted my trip:
In light of these events, I request:
The full refund of £146.53 for the tire repair costs.
The full refund of £24.94 charged for the repair kit.
An appropriate commercial compensation / indemnification for the severe inconvenience, lost time, and sub-standard vehicle provided.
I expect a prompt reply and a fair resolution to this matter.

Horrible process from the beginning…
Horrible process from the beginning from their booking platform to the phone call for help, not one person was able to assist. Called about errors in my booking and received an AI response that was not able to help. Spoke to an agent who transferred me to a representative that said they could help but wasn't able to. Not one alternative option or offer for solution. Ended up having to cancel my booking since no updates could be made and went to a different rental car agency. Had originally gone with Hertz because it is what was recommended by my job but wont ever book with them again.

I tried to add my daughter as a driver to an upcoming reservation. Customer service promised me a call back from the San Fransicco airport location to add the info. Never got the call back. I called there. The rudest staff member spoke with me. I was hung up on 15 times. Why??
Absolute scam and horrendous hidden fees
Absolute scam. This company is the scum of the earth. Massive unexpected fees, more fees on top of that, lies after scams. Sign a document stating a certain amount owed and charge credit card another additional fee on a separate invoice. Anytime you speak to staff they claim it’s not their responsibility and to contact someone else.
I will take the bus instead of deal with these horrible scumbags ever again.

I’d like to post a shout out for counter personnel
I’d like to post a shout out for the young man working the counter… Zack… In Buffalo Niagara airport. It was a frustrating flight with delays and I was so worried about the counter being closed when I got to pick up the car. It closed at midnight and I was late. I walked in and it appeared that the counter was empty. But when I poked my head around the corner… There sat a young man with a smile and a witty disposition. I was all flustered… And he said “don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.” I drove away with a much more calm demeanor and a smile on MY face.
Hertz…You’ve got a gem in Zack at the Buffalo Niagara airport. 👍🏻

In special countries have also required credit card! I don't have credit card, I have only debit card, why I can't take the car(((
Hertz sent non-working cancellation link and phone
Hertz sent an acknowledgment email with a link and phone number if you needed to cancel. Neither worked.
Fraudsters.
Was the best rental company now the worst .
**Extremely Frustrating Experience with…
**Extremely Frustrating Experience with Hertz**
My recent experience with Hertz has been extremely frustrating.
I rented a Chevy Tahoe from Hertz on Saturday, August 15, with a scheduled return date of Friday, August 21 at 10:00 AM. I returned the vehicle as scheduled.
On **Saturday, August 22**, I received a text from Hertz stating that the rental was **"overdue."** I contacted Hertz chat support, explained that the vehicle had already been returned, and was told to wait 24–48 hours because the return may not have been processed yet.
On **Sunday, August 23**, I received another overdue notification. I contacted support again and was again told to allow 24–48 hours for the return to process.
Then, on **Monday, August 24 — the third consecutive day of overdue notifications — I received an "URGENT" message** stating that the rental was still overdue.
I contacted Hertz support again. This time, the agent asked me to fill out a form with various questions about where and how the vehicle was returned. I copied the questions into Notepad and started answering them. While I was in the middle of doing that, the chat session timed out and disconnected.
So now I'm waiting yet again for another support agent.
My frustration is with **Hertz as a company and the overall customer-service experience**. I returned the vehicle on time, contacted Hertz when I received the first notification, followed the instructions I was given, and waited the requested 24–48 hours. Despite doing everything I was asked to do, I was still receiving overdue notifications three days later and having to spend more time trying to get the issue resolved.
And now there's another problem.
I received my final receipt from Hertz today and noticed a **$127 "Fuel and Service" charge**. I filled the Tahoe up at a Shell station on Ohio Street shortly before returning it, and the airport was only roughly 10 miles away. The vehicle had a full tank when I returned it, so I have no idea why Hertz applied a $127 fuel and service charge.
At this point, I am now having to dispute a charge for fuel that I had already purchased, on top of trying to get Hertz to properly process a vehicle that I returned on time.
**My advice to anyone renting from Hertz: take pictures of your fuel gauge and odometer immediately before you return the vehicle, and keep your gas receipt.** Having documentation of the vehicle's condition and fuel level may save you a lot of trouble if there is a dispute later.
There was also an issue when I initially picked up the Tahoe. Shortly after pickup, the **"Low Oil"** warning light came on. Hertz did eventually provide a voucher so I could get the oil changed, which I appreciate. However, I still spent nearly an hour sitting in a hot vehicle at a Take 5 Oil Change location in the Texas heat while waiting for Hertz to approve the service.
I understand that problems can happen with rental vehicles and that returns can sometimes take time to process. What I find unacceptable is the **lack of communication, follow-through, and effective customer support** when something goes wrong.
What should have been a simple rental has turned into repeated overdue notifications for a vehicle I already returned, multiple contacts with customer support, a disconnected support chat while I was actively trying to resolve the issue, and now a **$127 fuel and service charge that appears to be incorrect**.
**This experience has seriously damaged my confidence in Hertz. What should have been a routine rental has turned into an ongoing customer-service nightmare, and I'll think twice before renting from Hertz again.**
Extra charge 3 weeks after - with no explanation!
The rental in Bologna went very well. The car was nice, everything worked as expected, and the return process was smooth.
However, three weeks later, Hertz suddenly withdrew DKK 1,741 from my account without any explanation, email, etc..
Since then, I have repeatedly tried to find out what the charge is for. I first contacted Hertz Denmark, as they are the ones who withdrew the money, but they referred me to Customer Relations in Ireland. I have now sent them two emails and received no response.
Calling them is equally frustrating: I end up going around in circles in an automated answering system, and the “Chat with an Agent” function on the Hertz website simply doesn’t work.
So here I am: Hertz has taken DKK 1,741 from my account, but apparently there is no way for me to find out why, challenge the charge, or get my money back.
A good rental experience has unfortunately turned into a very frustrating customer service experience.
Exorbitant costs
For a superficial scratch measuring 1 cm by 2 cm on the hubcap of an "economy" vehicle, the repair cost, based on their price list, amounts to €200! That's excessive.
Horrible service!!
Horrible service!!! And DO NOT RENT FRON THIS COMPANY!! ! I returned my rented vehicle on 8/20 & there was nobody on shift working, with 60+ vehicles and a dozen people standing around looking for an agent. I waited 5 minutes and dropped the keys in theirl marked lockbox for keys. Now (4-days later) I have received multiple messages (at least 8) asking me to return the vehicle now, and I will have to pay penalties for late return. I have spent 4+ hours on the phone with their outsourced agents (4 different customer service agents) who all barely speak english and hung up or transferred me to someone else with no resolution.
TERRIBLE customer service
TERRIBLE customer service. They returned half of the deposit, while we returned it in perfect condition, gas full,no unpaid tolls etc with no explanation. They are ghosts online, nowhere to be found. That's criminal behavior!
DO NOT RENT WITH THEM.

Booking ref 831256510. Scam
Booking ref - 831256510 (booked in wife's name).
Dropped car back off at orlando airport. Parked it up where told and the hertz guy gave me a receipt saying all good no extra charges. Safe trip home.
Walk inside to the hertz main desk and hand the keys back, again. The receptionist says thank you everything is done and sorted...
20minitues later I receive an email saying I've agreed to the extra charges of 350 dollars because I've lost the car keys???
Because I'm through security and can't go back, I call the helpline explain and was told I need to dispute it on the website. I replied no way is that your policy and I'm not doing that. He put the phone down on me!!
I will be contacting the credit card company to help...
Just charge people what you need to charge upfront, don't scam innocent customers for even more
Will be warning people of this scam by hertz
BEWARE! ZERO STARS!!
BEWARE!! When I rented a vehicle, the plan was to have it for 4 days because my vehicle was at the dealership for maintenance. I reluctantly chose the Partial Damage Waiver insurance for $15 per day. After 1 week, my vehicle was still being repaired so I called the customer service and asked to cancel it. They said ok and said I would get an email. I never got the email so I called back and they said I couldn’t cancel it because I still had the vehicle. When my vehicle was finally ready 2 weeks later, the guy said it could have been cancelled if I had brought it up there for inspection. NO ONE EVER SAID THAT until the day I turned it. That cost me $200 when it should have cost $60. Even after asking for a partial refund, they refused.
Double charging
We rented a car and paid for it. They charged us £120 for dropping the car in another city which was part of contract and already paid and agreed. Don't trust this company. There are better companies out there.
I am extremely disappointed
I am extremely disappointed with the service provided by Hertz South Africa Cape Town International Airport, particularly regarding their handling of administrative fees and traffic infringements.
After receiving a fine handling fee months after my rental ended, I reached out to Customer Relations for clarification and proof, as two fines were generated just minutes apart for locations 90 km from each other—a physical impossibility.
Instead of reviewing my query, representative Kelsey Watt sent generic, automated copy-paste responses. Every single email was ignored in substance; she refused to provide the official infringement notice, failed to explain the timestamp discrepancies, and completely ignored my questions about how to settle payments without an active credit card.
The utter lack of effort, total dismissal of valid customer inquiries, and abysmal communication from Kelsey Watt make this one of the worst customer service experiences I have had. Hertz quickly collects administrative fees, but offers zero support or accountability when obvious administrative errors occur.
Avoid renting with Hertz South Africa if you value transparent, human, and helpful customer support.
