Ads are 10 years old and not updated
As someone searching for a job over months in whole Latin America it was nearly impossible.
The ads are so old and are unfortunately not updated. They should delete the people who were last active 10 years ago.
Maybe if you are just looking for the USA it works. Latin America definitely not.
As a host
As a host, I've applied, left 3,4 messages, waited 3 weeks (claims 3 days' reply). Nothing. If rejected, at least minimally, tell me. I'd change review if I at least had a reply w/a good reason.
HelpX host since 2011
As a host with HelpX since 2011, never had a single issue with them. It works just fine for both hosts and helpers, so long as both have the right attitude. From a host's point of view, important to understand that it's not an employer/worker relationship - it's a fair exchange of resources.
Not Helpful with problems
My experience with HelpX has been that they have not been helpful to me when I have had a real problem. They do not support the host. I have used them but because of this I use WORKAWAY.INFO almost exclusively.
I have been a host for more than 10…
I have been a host for more than 10 years now. Time to say "thank you" to everybody that made this happen. It is a "no-frills"-website, basic. At this date the login-procedure is not working well, hopefully they fix it as it is annoying.
These people below me are more-on$
These people below me are more-on$. I stayed on an almond farm for about 2 weeks. It was awesome. The specifics aren't always the same, but essentially you work 20 hours weeks. The host provides your meals and a place to sleep. Sometimes it's a house, sometimes it's land for your trailer, etc. Sometimes you will get people you don't like. Not everyone will be honest. It's how real jobs work too for you people that like to think everything is slavery. God you people are dumb.
Wonderful experiences
I have had many helpx helpers over a period of many years, while I was running an animal and olive farm in South Australia (until October 2017), and I have always had only the very best experiences with the young people who stayed with us. Most of them were French and between 25-35 years old, and I stayed in contact with many of them and watched their further journeys via Facebook long after they left. Now back in Europe and going towards retirement, I consider becoming a Helpx volunteer myself when I start travelling. I am currently a TrustedHousesitter which is similarly rewarding (free accommodation in return for house and pet sitting while the owners are away), but Helpx additionally provides you two-legged company, interesting work experiences and the adventure of trying local homemade cuisine!
My problems with helpx customer care…
My problems with helpx customer care started with my third membership renewal that being a host. This dates back one month now and I am still waiting for the approval. Helpx being known to be over the top prestigious neglects the following standards of good practise;
+ clear and easy to find contact information (haehae; there is no fixed abode address provided, an indicator of paranoya)
+ personalized and mailed response messages to user enquiries
+ selectively chosen hosts or lack of provision of explanatory statement for declination of hosting profile approval
+ refund if approval is not granted (detracted)
Basically, helpx having become the showcase for Modern Slavery Act implementations into micro farm businesses strategies. This typical British cast mentality helper = worker and host = landlord is providing satisfying evidence after 2plus previous and consecutive membership periods in wipeboy and shithead go throughs until to the end, that a return of investment to the helper in terms of a recognition of achievements after successful completion of his and her journeyman's travels as an underdog is not constituent of the makers membership board mission and his and her choice of hosts. I hope this is clear even to those Englishmen that teach English to foreign helpxers on their premises; the lead (equilibrium) of Modern Slavery Act translation in its most positive and recommendable terms and the abuse of Modern Slavery Act Information by maximum utilization of its premonished greyzones is unbalanced towards servitude,it tips towards its own opposite by greed. Whereas a plentitude of host appear very educated in the academic, humanistic and Chistian tradition, utilising an axiom of choice that's arbitrarily approving some few favourized host whilst neglecting other with comparable potential and skills (such as me?!), spotlights the boards ambition with incredibility. Such British casts are trained down at early age and such is part of my profession, correspondingly, not satisfied with the progress at the finalization phase (-->)
This is not the last word and the reader remains encouraged to add his experiences and the volunteering platform provider his and her response to this challenge for course correction.
I do tick the box 'Let Helpx know about your review.'
Many thanks
Oliver
Stay Away
This organisation is extremely unprofessional. I worked as a helper and a host tried to exploit and abuse me, which I reported to them and they did not even react to my notification. It appears that none of the hosts are vetted, so needless to say there are many that do not abide by the rules and exploit foreign travelers. HelpX does not care, because if they did, they would not get the membership fees from the hosts anymore.
My impression is that they are very unprofessional and that website is run by a crook, who just wants to collect membership fees.
STAY AWAY and DO NOT ENTRUST YOUR NAME OR MONEY TO THIS SCAM WEBSITE.
