We were particularly surprised by the comparison to a factory-made supermarket cake. Every one of our cakes is handmade from scratch at our bakery in Sussex. We use high-quality ingredients including organic free-range eggs from East Grinstead, and make our Italian meringue buttercream from scratch. This particular order was also a large two-tier cake, serving up to 72 people, finished by hand and decorated with real gold leaf.
Regarding the birthday message, no instructions or reference images were provided with the order specifying where or how you wanted the message displayed. The message was therefore hand-painted onto a large fondant disc, finished with hand-painted details and gold leaf, and placed prominently on the front of the cake. Had you requested that the message was written directly onto the body of the cake, we would of course have followed that request where the design allowed.
We also understand from your correspondence that you were unhappy that the cake arrived at approximately 9am because you did not have somewhere to store it. Unfortunately, no preferred delivery time was provided with the order. We sent your two-hour delivery window the day before delivery, as we do for our customers, and we weren’t contacted to say that this time would cause a problem.
Taste is of course personal, and we’re sorry that the cake wasn’t to your liking. However, we do want to clarify for anyone reading this review that our cakes are not factory-made or bought-in. The £225 price reflected a large, handmade two-tier cake serving up to 72 people, along with the time, ingredients and hand-finished decoration involved.
We’re sorry that on this occasion the cake didn’t meet your expectations.
