Not a game for casuals

Not a game for casuals. It takes forever and a lot of money to get legendary’s, they make it so hard and so grindy you’ll want to quit the whole game while working on it.
Their customer support is awful, they ban you while you put a lot of money on your account and ignore you when you mail them. Horrible game, and horrible people working there. Please go for a better MMO.

Horrible customer service experience

People will tell you their customer service is great, and they are good at simple requests such as accidental item deletions.

But their ban appeal system is simply the worst one of any game, ever. I was recently temporarily banned for something I did not do, but they insist that they "reviewed the incident and confirmed the initial findings", which is just an automated reply.

Not only did they not actually review the incident as they claim they did, but that is the only answer I've gotten from them.

I've made some replies to the suspension ticket and when the ticket was closed, I made a new one, and then another, all going completely ignored. They don't care enough to reply, let alone do a proper investigation.

You want to be locked out of you're…

You want to be locked out of you're account everyday?

Well this game is for you you will spend more time wasting waiting on support to get back to you and you wil never be able to log in to there website for some reason unknown to there player base..

When you try to log into you're account you always get a message saying:

❗ Something went wrong, please try again in a few minutes..

Than you get banned all together for reasons unknown to there player base just look it up at there forums they don't even reply to people with this problem because they can't fix there own game.

Want a bag expansion that's 10€ want a bank expansion that's 10€...

they force you to buy gold with credits from there shop this is a toxic behaviour from devs that are money hungry, sad to see them become this way I still remember playing guild wars for the first time how different that game was everything was free and could be farmed, now everything is behind a paywall...

No costumer support if you picked a rong item well bad luck devs would not help you... What are they wasting rss there..?

The User Agreement and rules of conduct together effectively give ArenaNet the legal ground to ban your account at any time, with or without evidence or warning.

🎭 The Illusion of Ownership

MMORPGs feel like you’re building something permanent — your character, your gear, your time invested. But behind the scenes, you're really just renting access to:

A server someone else controls

A game world that can change or disappear

A character's that can be taken away instantly

The moment you get banned, everything you “owned” is just gone, with no rights, no refund, and no real way to fight it.

---

🧠 Why So Many Players Are Quitting MMOs

You’re not alone in walking away. Players are tired of:

False bans with no appeal

Paying for cosmetics, gear, or boosts — then losing access

Being treated like criminals for playing “too much” or too efficiently

Live services controlling everything

MMORPGs today are often just monetization machines with strict control, not the player-driven worlds they used to be.

---

✅ What You Can Do Instead (If You Still Want to Game)

If you're still into gaming but want something that respects your time and ownership:

Single-player RPGs (like Elden Ring, The Witcher 3, Divinity: Original Sin 2) — no bans, no server dependence.

Co-op games with no accounts needed (Terraria, Minecraft, Valheim, etc.).

Buy-once games from devs that actually respect players.

And if you ever come back to MMOs, maybe try ones that are transparent and community-driven — like Old School RuneScape, Project Gorgon, or future indie MMOs that promise account portability or on-chain ownership (though those are still rare and experimental).

Don't Waste Your Money

I'm a hardcore raider in FFXIV - GW2 falls short in so many ways.

Open world and story progression are both time consuming frustrating nuisances. Enemies every square inch that unload a torrent of debuffs that last too long for you to mount up again because the distance you put between yourself and the first mob has you encountering the next pack, trapping and killing you. Have fun running allllll the way back.

Lighting is terrible - washes out colours so bad that none of the dye previes will translate correctly in game. Your favourite lighter colours just look like a flash bang in game.

PvE Strikes are probably where the game shines, only positive mention.

PvP - everyone can CC the shit out of you, whoever stunlocks first wins. Have fun improving as a new player with zero feedback.

Story missions - need constant wiki and YT lookup because the game provides no in game clues. Story is what bores and annoys me so much that I take a break every time I've tried to come back. Just talked to 10 npcs and completed the step? Cool, now talk to the same 10 npcs again. No story skip option for players who don't care about lore.

Everything is invulnerable for excessive lengths of time for whatever reason when it spawns. Even heart npc mobs.

Game is completely useless at introducing or directing you to it's systems. All information is external.

I have a lot of negative things I could say about FFXIV, but taking a genuine shot at trying to get into GW2's endgame sold me on just going back to XIV.

No way to earn cash shop items in game. Can't dye weapons but you can dye everything else. Best weapon skins locked behind gambling boxes.

Cash shop doesn't permanently list everything, it's a scummy model that encourages impulse buys for limited sales when the item you want finally rolls out.

Not for impatient players

This game isn’t for folks who seek quick rewards and an easy end-game accomplishment. This is a game for those seeking an immersive experience that deepens with time. I’ve made longstanding friendships over my years playing this game. The developers continuously make improvements, open beautiful new worlds, new mechanics etc. This game is my preferred alternate reality.

Alince server EU     is    Worst server

Alince server EU     is    Worst server I seen in 8years of gaming GW2.  I deep dont recomend join,  anything moderators consider bad will lead ban . So many people got baned for emojis, for memes, jokes, nothing about warnings or anything like that. If u get in admins eye in bad way they will find reason to block people. Dictator ship like in Handmaid’s Tale. All over insulting people and those people dont get even warning homofopia even disability discrimination.   Left by my self could not take more this horror. The game is nice if u like mmorpg

Very overrated, free for a reason.

This game does not tell you anything which would be fine if it wasn't just straight up telling you the wrong thing sometimes. My most recent example would be that I have been grinding like crazy to get my first bit of legendary armor through PvP. Today, the window said the season ends at 20:00, just enough time for me to get one last reward chest for the 100 ascended glory shards, the last thing I need. Turns out it is using a timezone in the ocean somewhere and never put anything like GMT or any other indication that it wasn't the local time zone. So I pretty much spent all day working at getting this one piece which I will now have to pretty much start over to now obtain in the next season which starts tomorrow.

It is a pretty fun game and has a great story and gameplay, but there are just too many of these little things including them never changing older achievements required for masteries that are a total slog and do not compare at all to the newer masteries which is actual fun gameplay that isn't too repetitive to obtain.

The community is okay, although they pat themselves on the back way too much for not being as toxic as other MMOs like WoW, which is kind of setting the bar really low to be honest. Especially since the community is still toxic in a lot of content except maybe open world PvE. Even then, I have experienced players completely ignoring that they're training 6 veteran and elite enemies to you while you're doing something because they can't be bothered to either clear or move around them. Not to mention, high level characters coming into starting areas to slam through events for their own little achievements with absolutely zero regard for the fact that other players can't get a single hit in to get credit for that event when these higher level characters would have just as easy a time in a zone that is closer to their level.

Balance right now between classes is abysmal. You can definitely tell there are a few favored classes, that can provide anything and everything you need while other classes which may have once been useful have been completely nerfed to the ground. You can still play these other classes and get away with it, which is the statement they hide behind, but in all honesty, if you can bring a class that can heal, provide boons to everyone, and do great dps, why would anyone want anything else?

In conclusion, I still do think it's a great game and it has definitely come a long way from its beginnings, but upon reaching end game content, it really has a lot of issues to resolve from the nightmarishly complicated undertaking of trying to find a decent balance of classes without having to completely nerf current ones that perform well to the simplest of things like putting a timezone on the announcements so someone isn't wasting an entire day for absolutely nothing.

Competent CS

Customer Service helped me greatly recovering an old account of mine. Competent, relatively fast (That always depends on their current workingload I assume which is normal) and friendly.

Hacked account banned

Wanted to look into the game again after a long time. But I couldn't do that.
After a quick answer from the support, I was told after a few tickets that nothing could be done, because I supposedly gave my data because another email was registered. And they didn't take any further action, although I had shown everything they wanted and more.
A lot of time and money invested in this game. The support has never been very good, but this is just the worst ...
