By far the worst experience ever

By far the worst experience ever. Staff were rude and aggressive, knocked on doors to free up cabins starting at 5am for an 8am arrival.
Food is mediocre and overpriced. Would never sail with them again if I have a choice.

Delay both times, and the lights in the seats

Went from Igoumenitsa to Ancona on 4-5 October, and back on 10-11 October with Grimaldi-lines/Minoan lines. The price for the first trip was 95 EUR/person (without vehicle), and then now from 10 October it was raised to 100 EUR/person. Its generally more expensive than an airplane ticket, and no, it does not have the value at all. The food prices are also outrages.

There was also a delay both times. The damn lights in the "flight seats" are left open all night. Besides that they are to bright and annoying, they are also not switched off in the night for those in the seats to sleep well.

This is the 7th time

This is the 7th time we come with Grimaldi Lines. And this was the worst.
Cabin was not cleaned. Only clean sheets and towels. Bedspread was sorry.
Breakfast was cold ( bacon and eggs). Coffee dito.
Staff was rude, not even answering. The whole ship was cold like a fridge.

Air condition too strong and cold in the vip seats, I got a cold after 8 hours sitting in that freezer.

I feel cheated

I was a foot passenger. We were told to check in 2 hours before sailing. The sour woman at the Douane seemed resentful of her role and failed to provide any information about where to go and what to do. Grudging and incomplete are words that spring to mind. Then, no explanations - we had to wait and wait and wait to be allowed on. It was evening and became cold. It was a nasty experience. Eventually were allowed on. The next day - a mere 18 hours after departure, we were all kicked out of the cabins we'd paid for. No explanations. Six boring and uncomfortable hours later, after all the trucks, cars, bikes etc foot passengers began to leave. The information was only given in Spanish, so several people who only spoke English were left to work out what was happening and what to do. We were the last to leave - no thanks from staff, no pleasant farewell. Just a stony look. Customer service is seriously lacking. I would NOT recommend this trip and I had intended booking a return journey in November. The only good part of it - the dining room staff. LOVELY people.

Bad experience

The ferry trip could be better, in my opinion the cabins were too cramped and small to fit 4 people inside of it and the food was to overpriced and not that tasty but the staff were quick and helphul. I personally would not recommend this company.

Would not recommend

Staff is extremely rude, bathroom was dirty and way too small, took us 1 hour to get off the boat, the system is wayyy to slow, food is terrible, barely edible, staff at the food court also terribly rude and do not have any English knowledge. Keys to the rooms are disfunctional. To conclude, system is way too slow and needs immediate improvement.

The most terrible experience i have…

Line Igoumenitsa -Ancona. The most terrible experience i have ever had with ferries. Parking the cars inside the ship garage was a chaos. Nobody from the crue watched the drivers. The cabins had no towels and blankets. The shower had something like dried blood. Toilet stinked urine. No electricity sockets near tables and chairs. Only in walls and you had to stand still to use your laptop. I asked the personnel in the reception to buy a wifi card, they replied in broken English with Italian"we are busy, come back tomorrow". They were so rude and ironic.

my wife and i travelled on the ferry…

my wife and i travelled on the ferry from ancona to igoumenista on the venizia on the 21.08.25 with grimaldi lines then back again on the 07.09.25 and what a shambles this company are!! the staff do not care one bit about the customer, in fact the impression they give you, you are a pest onboard their ship! The person behind the cash till in the cafeteria needs a lesson in manners, i can not call it a restaurant as it is far from it. the food is disgusting so take food with you if you want to eat. i cannot believe how bad the staff are the only one that was civil and helpfull was the lady on reception on the return journey to ancona she was lovely. i have done this crossing many times as an international truck driver so when i make these comments i do know what i am talking about, minoan line have the best ships, clean,friendly staff, good food and its such a shame they have been brought down by GRIMaldi. i would not advise anyone to use GRIMaldi it does not deserve paying passengers, they should stick to what they know best which is cargo.NO i will never go on other GRIMaldi ferry again!!!!!

Once in our cabin

Once in our cabin, everything was fine until we were woken, far too early the next morning. But .... 1) Nobody told us we had to go to reception for a key. As a result we lost a lot of time and energy, finding the cabin on Deck 10 was difficult enough. Then going back to reception, then back to the cabin. 2) In general, the announcements in English were appallingly pronounced. Plus too hurried. You need to bring in someone to train these people to speak more slowly and clearly and with the correct rhythm. I am sure that you would do this if you truly understood how little of these announcements is comprehended. 3) The new system for ordering and paying at the bar by touchscreen could be improved by informing us that as well as one in the middle there are two further touchscreens to the side of the ship. The central one had a long queue while the side ones were deserted. Some one could be delegated to perform this task. The bar seemed overstaffed. 4) Dogs should not be allowed - we twice had to negotiate dog urine on the floor of the deck. 5) Many of the male staff do not seem very polite. Someone should tell them that paying customers are what keeps them in employment. Or as Americans have it: the customer is king.

The staff was extremely rude

The staff was extremely rude. The room was dirty and unclean. The pillows had yellow residue. The bathroom was also dirty. I felt disgusted staying in this room. The prices of food and drinks were insane ( too high for their low quality).

Not a good choice

Not a nice choice at all. Although staff was polite and tried to be helpful, paid WiFi was only available in the lobbies and restaurant, NOT in the cabin. Bed was bad and squishy, a lot of noice and cracking during the trip (due to age of the ship? Bad maintenance? Certainly not the weather as it was as calm as it gets). Food was very average to say the least... I could add a couple more but lets eep it short

The overall cleanliness is the biggest…

The overall cleanliness is the biggest issue.

The second is the constant feeling of disorganizatiom. Today they made us board for departure at 6:15, they ask you to be 2h in advance but the ship is late and once you re on the boat, they tell you that the cabins you paid for will only be available from 7am onwards.

Expect a rough experience every time.

Never mind Grimaldi more like GRIMaldi

Never mind Grimaldi more like GRIMaldi! The ferry was rank. It was dirty, smelt like wet dog the higher up the ship you went. Dog wee & poo on the outside deck smelt so bad and came across a pile of dog poo at the top of the stairs inside on deck 10, had to tell staff memver it needed clearing up. If people are going to bring pets on board have some respect and clear the mess up. Were a family of 4 and paid extra for the buisness seats, everytime we got up to have a walk round we came back to people sat in them having moved our stuff. Peopel arent paying for seats so when they see free ones they take them, not fair on paying passengers! The seating rooms arnt manned so people can come & go as they want, should have a barrier at the doors where people who have paid can access through scanning there boardinf ticket. Theres just people slummped and sleeping everywhere, in the restaurants seating areas everywhere! Was an awful journey, felt like a homeless hostel! Glad it was only a 7 hour trip!

We traveled from Igoumenitsa to…

We traveled from Igoumenitsa to Brindisi with Grimaldi Lines and had one of the worst experiences we've ever had with a ferry company.

We paid for Pullman seats, but the area was lit with bright overhead lights all night, making it impossible to sleep. Staff told us there was a switch to turn them off—there wasn’t—and they offered no help.

Even worse, the Pullman section was freezing cold, and nowhere during booking was this mentioned. We were traveling in summer clothes with kids, and when we asked reception if we could get extra clothes from our car (on the open deck), they rudely refused. No blankets, no assistance—just cold and indifference. We all ended up sick after the journey.

The staff were rude, unhelpful, and spoke almost no English, including reception. When we asked for help, the response was basically “go sleep” and nothing more.

Meanwhile, passengers were allowed to sleep on the floor with inflatable mattresses, yet those of us who paid for seats had zero comfort.

Grimaldi Lines clearly does not care about its passengers. This company is not serious about customer service or basic human comfort. Avoid if you can.

3 Grimaldi ferries, avoid!!

3 Grimaldi ferries, 3 absolute worst ferry experiences ever. We have travelled Europe, UK, Morocco for 2 years and taken many ferries with our motorhome. If you are not allowed on as one of the early rows, there are no seats. People put their bags, blankets etc all over the seats and no crew regulates it. We had to sit on the floor. It is complete mayhem. Ferry Sicily to Sardinia, toilets were not working on several decks. They were overflowing and not barricaded off for the whole trip and doors held open. The stench was revolting. I would avoid at all costs!

Lack of respect for visitors from overseas

Booking Ref G250373580.
On the 25 06 2025 I had the worst experience of complete lack of respect for overseas visitors, namely my self!
I found the whole experience totally unsatisfactory, the total lack of respect the Grimaldi staff at Civitavecchia and on board the ship paid towards their
customers is unbelievable.
I work in the tourism industry in London and believe me when I say WE VALUE OUR VISITORS!
Out of all the staff I encountered there was only one young man on board ship who was helpful and polite.
Be advised I checked in at 1900 hrs ref G250373580 25/6/2025 in at the Grimaldi desk, my ticket says DO NOT PRINT, the young gentleman serving me asked for my phone so he could scan the barcode, upon handing it back he dropped my phone on his side of the counter and had broken the screen, he was very distressed as he said he was new in the job, i asked to speak to his lady supervisor who refused to give me his or her name, covering his and hers identity badges, she kept telling me to complain via the procedure on the board, I took both of their's picture through the screen, to submit as proof, she then snatched my tickets and told me the police had been informed.
She made me wait and eventually gave me my boarding tickets, again using foul language. The young man was obviously embarrassed gesturing to me to be patient.
Is this the way to treat your customers, i will never use Grimaldi again. Before booking I had read the reviews about the appalling customer service. I now know how true that is!
I am very upset, as I realise it was an accident, but scared the lady was so horrible to me. She made me delete the picture before returning my tickets.
My phone is insured but there will be an excess of £100 to pay for the repair. See attached insurance policy, refer to Samsung s23.
For your information, this incident happened at the far left window at the Grimaldi check in Civitavecchia.
The lady staff member seemed very concerned about my actions and kept telling me that the counter staff were not Grimaldi employees.
I expect you to reimburse me £100 into my original method of payment.
With regard to the actual crossing.
The counter staff offered no boarding instructions, just aggressively pointing to a door, a Grimaldi person scanned the boarding passes and offered no instruction as where to go.
When i eventually found my cabin no 7020, it was dirty, the floor was covered in dirty foot prints, there were drink cartons behind the curtain. The bathroom was also dirty, the shower curtain was partially hanging off. It struck me as being seriously out of date!
I had booked an evening meal in the served restaurant, I am vegetarian, my meal was ok.
I am all about nutrition and healthy living, my paid for breakfast consisted of two white bread rolls, jam, water and foul coffee in a paper cup!
At 3 pm we were told to vacate our cabins, I had paid for my cabin, on the ticket it says 1700 hrs arrival, why am I being asked to vacate. There were no instructions where to vacate too, like deck numbers, when i asked in the office on my deck, the staff member shut the door in my face! A fellow passenger who had done the trip before knew where to go, everybody thought we would be getting off soon? 2 hrs later the announcement was given to disembark, but by what route, no instructions at all, I had to go back to my deck and go through the corridor which was now blocked by cleaning apparatus and cabin furniture, I noticed Grimaldi cleaning staff smoking in the cabins.
I eventually managed to get off the ship, in thanks to a very helpful Grimaldi staff member, the only one I had met.
Be advised Grimaldi treat their customers like cattle in a market! There were families, small children and babies, all with loads of luggage who Grimaldi forced to wait 2 hrs to disembark.
My WiFi package stopped working after 12 hrs, I could not renew it.
Never again will I use Grimaldi, your gross customer service is documented on line on many sites.
I have taken the extreme step of sending all the documents by registered postage relating to this incident to
EMANUELE GRIMALDI CEO, NAPLES.
Unfortunately TRUSPILOT reviews don't seem to allow attachments.
Customer service Grimaldi had the cheek to email me and tell me not to contact the CEO as he is above dealing with such matters.
Be advised I will contact whoever is necessary to solve this matter.
I am appalled by Grimaldi's response, the two counter staff members in question should be dismissed immediately.
