I was having a choppy sound issue with Tex Murphy: Under A Killing Moon

I was having a choppy sound issue with the Tex Murphy game: Under a Killing Moon. First, Orcan helped me insure that everything on my laptop was completely up to date. Falran took over and was very patient and offered many fixes and never gave up despite how long we spent trying to fix the issue. I was looking at the DOSBox manual and saw something about CPU power, remembering it was something that Falran had focused on, so I ran with it and it fixed the issue. If it wasn't for his never give up attitude, I would have given up and the fix never would have been found. Thank you Falran!

Very good selection of games

Very good selection of games, keeping old titles alive that are in my opinion worth preserving, and generally very fairly priced too.

Also (which is the occation of this review) good, friendly and thorough help with a technical issue. I was in contact with a Falran, and he was very nice.

Great support and great interaction from GOG

I was assisted in a very professional and kind way by Falran, GOG custumer support specialist, that has followed with great accuracy an hideous problem of crashing of the game Venetica by Deck13, a problem that, despite many analysis and proposal of solution, apparently seemed impossible to fix, but Falran never gave up with this mess and with his continuous analysis he finally reached to find a fix solution that has completely eliminated every crashing and freezing of the game. Really a great support from a great guy.

GOG Understands Retro Gaming

I bought Tropico 2 on GOG and had trouble getting it to start. I contacted support, and Falran helped me out — super fast replies, clear instructions, and when one fix didn’t work, he came back with more personalized solutions until everything ran perfectly.

It’s so nice to talk to an actual person right away instead of an AI chatbot that keeps you waiting. Falran’s help felt genuine and tailored, not copy-pasted, and thanks to him I can enjoy a childhood favorite again.

GOG really stands out — it’s one of the few places left that still feels like it cares about both games and players. Refreshing after so many new releases that are simply soulless.

Focusing more on improving their catalogue

GOG seems to have put their focus more on actually fulfilling their original promise; fixing up older games for modern systems. I know they might often mostly apply community-made fixes, but they put more and more extra effort in it to make even custom fixes themselves or custom configuration tools to make it easier for the public. To my surprise, their support is also very good, where their Senior Technical Customer Support Specialist Falran made sure a regression with a recent update of SPORE got a hotfix within a few days. Amazing.

For objectivity, these are my feedback for them to still improve things, but these are all minor in the grand scheme of things:
- The Patron Discord is nice to get more direct feedback from dedicated members of the community. Not everyone is willing to create tickets for issues, so more of a presence there of GOG personnel would be nice.
- Make the changelog of game updates more detailed of how things were actually achieved. Now they seem to be very very short often with a severe lack of details. When you go through the motions to do something, make it also impressive on paper haha.
- Make it more obvious on the store pages in how some games offer something that other digital PC stores don't to attract more customers and for increase in transparency (essentially the changelog issue again).
- Update GOG Galaxy; people seem to really want it on Linux + it is quite sluggish nowadays. It is based on QT 5.15.2, which celebrates its 5th anniversary this month. QT 6.0 has been out since the end of 2020 guys. Time for an upgrade to take advantage of its new features to make sure people will not see it as the next EA Origin haha.

Support was quick and knowledgeable. I had an issue with the new Indiana Jones game that Bethesda support was unable to figure out. Falran from GOG gave me suggestions that I hadn't thought of that fixed the issue. Thanks Falran and GOG!

Great customer support received from Falran on GOG

Had huge problems with getting XCOM 2 to run on my PC. Received the help needed from Falran (Senior Technical Customer Support Specialist) through customer support. Help received was fast, clear instructions on what to do, professional and strangely enough the solution worked on the first attempt (which is almost unheard of) with no need for further contact except to thank him/her for their effort!

Great Job!

Disappointed by GOG’s Support of Russian War-Linked Titles

As a long-time supporter of DRM-free gaming and ethical distribution, I’m disheartened to see GOG selling titles like Pathfinder and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader and many other games developed by studios based in russia or with strong ties to the russian federation. This is a country currently engaged in a full-scale war against Ukraine and previously responsible for the brutal occupations of Chechnya and parts of Georgia.

These developers continue to operate under and pay taxes to a regime officially designated by multiple governments as a state sponsor of terrorism. By distributing such titles, GOG is indirectly enabling the funding of a war machine responsible for immense human suffering.

GOG has built its reputation on values of freedom and respect for gamers. But supporting humanitarian ideals means making hard choices—like refusing to profit from entities that contribute to oppression and violence. I urge GOG to reevaluate its partnerships and align its catalog with the ethical standards it claims to uphold.

A Customer Service department that truly provides Customer Service

I have used GOG for a number of years now to buy and play several old classic PC games and they ahve always been well up dated to play on newer operating systems so no complaints on that score. But recently I had a problem, purely of my own making, where I lost access to the games I had bought. GOG Customer Support were incredibly helpful and really went above and beyond to sort me out. I truly cannot speak highly enough of the help they provided to me and I'm all back to where I was again.

GOG support service saved my gaming Life

I've bought from GOG since 2011....my go to place for retro games.
My first major challenge with them happened a few weeks ago when I bought the 3 Banner Saga games during a sale .
Those games would not show up in Gog Galaxy client (no matter the OS I was using) so I could not play
I contacted support service explaining my problem.
They helped me getting the offline installers (they worked) for those games while we tried fixing that issue.
Falran (a guy from Support) provided me several possible solutions .
At first none of them worked for me till last day when he found a way to sync my library.

Had a problem with my login email and after a few hours, the rep on my case got me back up and running. Really saved my bacon and was highly professional.

Also, goes without saying, but GOG is the only service within spitting distance of Steam. I’ve loved watching them grow over the years. They are a great platform.

Almost always the best possible choice

As a great supported of DRM free games and real ownership, GOG is my store of choice whenever possible. If a game I like is available there, I'll buy it there because I think we should be allowed to access and play our games without being constantly online, without relying on someone else keeping a server up for us. The quantity of available games may not be comparable to other stores, but GOG still offers plenty of excellent choices, even Triple A games. And personally, my tastes as a player are satisfied by GOG's selection (I like in particular CRPGs).

I also must say that, while GOG's selection is smaller in quantity, it's better in average quality because GOG has much less low effort "shovelware" than other digital games stores. Whereas if a game ends up on GOG, that alone is proof of an amount of quality that is not irrelevant.

Their Galaxy client is a bit rough, needs some polish here and there, but it's overall nice for those who like having achievements and cloud savings. Though I must say, I'm greatly disappointed that the development of Galaxy on Linux was put on indefinite hold. Granted, Linux users can still rely on offline game installers provided by GOG or unofficial launchers that are maintained by the Linux community, but I think GOG should not lose the opportunity to handle that themselves.

My personal experience with GOG assistance has been positive. I've been in particular in contact with Falran, to report games that have incorrect information on the store pages, and he's always been very nice and attentive to solve all the issues I reported, and we're still in contact for a few corrections that are still needed.

The greatest criticism I have about GOG, unfortunately, is that there are games that are left outdated or missing content compared to other digital stores (patches, languages, Mac and/or Linux ports, etc...). Granted, those games are far from being the majority, and I understand it's generally publishers (or developers) who are to blame for neglecting their customers, but I think GOG should be much more decisive on this matter. Because when games are updated and taken care of on GOG, I have no reason to buy from other stores at all.

Gog.com is unique.

First time I was introduced to Gog.com and wasn't expecting much but in reality they are excellent and far exceeded my expectations and their customer service is excellent. There are so many old games to choose from at an exceptional price. I would highly recommend them.

Great and fast help

I had problems starting Tomb Raider 4 on Windows 11. Falran from the GOG Service gave me immediate response and help for workarounds, so that I could start the game.
Nevertheless, the GOG programming teams still has some issues to fix, so that no one would need workarounds.
