I have always found the service great for some years now. One item I do not understand is why the files are so large now when the quality is basically the same as a few years ago with smaller files.

I received an email stating that I was successfully signed up for a "free subscription." When I read the email (THE VERY NEXT DAY) I reached out to let them know that it was not I that had registered and wanted the account to be cancelled and closed. Fast forward to this month, I was shocked to see I had a charge from a subscription that I did not have and HAVE NEVER used. This time I went straight through their webpage (I had to request a pw change b/c I had no idea what the site was even for as I did not sign up the first time) and let them know there was an issue as I had not ever subscribed, used, or anything. I got a response stating that they just received the cancellation and could not refund my money. I did not JUST cancel it that day...I sent a request for them to review and see that I should have been cancelled AUGUST 25TH as I never signed up for the account. I have responded with this information AGAIN and also posited that they should be able to check the program/subscription/whatever this is and see that I have never used it a single time and therefore should have no problem cancelling as they would not have lost anything from me (EVEN THOUGH IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CANCELLED ON THE FIRST REQUEST). I still have no idea what this site/subscription/whatever actually is for

Someone registered with my email address to freediscussions. I wrote them several times, starting with the first registration email, that i didn't sign up they completely ignored my emails complaining about the abuse of my email address.
EDIT: Increase from 1 to 4 stars. After this review they replied in under 24 hours to my last email, apologized for the inconvenience and deleted my email address from their system.

Just for your information, they are ran by the the Usenet business and FreeDiscussions is like an alias for them to go by another name but its all the same grift. I signed up to the 14 day free trial in order to download a file that they stated would be available to me if i signed up for a free trial but it ended up being non-existent and I didnt receive any confirmation emails for a sign up plus I couldn't log back in so i moved on. It wasn't until 2 weeks after that I was charged on the LAST day of the free trial June 6th 2024 and only then did I see a sign up email in my Spam/Junk email folder from an unknown email. Every other email from them after that came through to my regular email but the email with my "appointed" username that I needed in order to log in to cancel my free trial was hidden in the Spam so I wouldn't be able to cancel unless I had it. I didn't receive a confirmation sign up from PayPal either so I didn't know the subscription was active and wasn't able to log into the account to use the service at all. Now I've been charged a yearly 99€ fee for a service I have not used and have no plans on using. I contacted them via their garbage cancellation form to cancel my account and the payment. You can't even cancel by just pressing a button. You have to fill out a form and wait for them to respond or ring down their phone until they answer. So unless you cancel via PayPal before they charge you, they will take your money, and by the looks of other experiences I read going back 10 years ago, they ignore you.
So I submitted the cancelation form for canceling and on the website it says they don't respond on weekends but I submitted my form Thursday evening and didn't get a response the next day, Friday, but literally minutes after I created a dispute with PayPal on Saturday morning, I received a subscription cancellation email. So they had the ability to respond to me from before but only did once PayPal got involved just like some of the other experiences I've read. They didn't refund my money either but by the laws of the universe hopefully they'll get their comeuppance one day.

I was recently charged €99.96 to my Paypal account for a subscription to an unknown product/service, (what even is Freediscussions ?) from Freediscussions. The company claims that I registered a free trial period, which I have never done, which then turned into a subscription. The company also cannot show that any registration has been made and when I ask for a copy of the order they cannot send one. Not so surprising since I never placed an order. If you have been the victim of the same fraud, report it to the police so that no one else is affected!!!

They have sent me to a debt collector for something I haven’t even asked for. I have had en email this morning asking for €134 off a debt collector. What a joke! You won’t get a penny out of my you absolute scam artists

If I could give negative stars, I would.
Tried the free trial, it was said that it would be a monthly billing.
I got billed 100€ and I can't find ANY info! No email, no contract,... How the F*** am I supposed to stop this now? I can't even ask for my money back because I don't have a customer number!!!
I tried login in, but the email to set a new password has never arrived in my inbox. It's not even in my spam folder.
This is a true scam. Your company should be shut down!

Hi, recently I opted for the free trial in 02.05.2024, and after one day of use, I sent an email for cancellation. I didn't recieved any response. I need as quick as possible a response, because I will not continue using the free trial and pay afterwards against my will. Edit: Today they cancelled my free trial, I recieved a confirmation mail for that. (05.02.24)

Don’t think they exist I asked for my money back as someone got the hands on my credit card and use it and all they saying talk to the police I want my money back and they should give me that if it wasn’t probably a scam and it’s criminals behind there so if they don’t pay me back I will contact media tomorrow now and I already called the police and contacted the bank. They are scammers and not a serious company. If they where they would put you back I have talked to them over mail it sound like they have a script and then I called them criminals and I also said that they are stealing for me all I want is my money back and them in prison

i thougth when free trial ends it just doesnt work anymore but they tried to take 100€ from me and they are telling me that if i dont pay they will go to a debt collector. i sended a cancel request and i didnt use it after the first day. you guys didnt ask me to activate the 1 year thing but ask me to give money i will not give you money and i dont have enough money
so dont mail me again about the money i cancelled it

Who are these people and how did they get my information ???!!?

Reply from FreeDiscussions S.r.l.
A total delusion. I dont know how and wyhy they had my email adress. They started to ask me money, even from a collector!

Reply from FreeDiscussions S.r.l.
What a scam! They make the charge appear as monthly but you have to scroll way down the page to see that you need to pay 12 months up front. Many other posters here confirm this.
I accidentally let the trial period lapse and once I noticed the charge on my bank account I immediately tried to cancel and get the money refunded.
I would have expected some kind of reminder email just before being charged but this did not occur.
With any other company in the past where I have made an accidental purchase this wouldn't be an issue but this company had absolutely no intention of refunding any of my money or helping me at all.
I've never met a company with such little compassion or concern for their customers. I've now paid for 12 months of access I basically will never use again!
I really wish I would have found this thread before using this service at all as I would NOT have signed up at all! The overwhelming number of one star reviews and bad customer experiences speaks volumes as to the kind of company this is.
I assume they will reply with some smug rubbish after this post but do yourself a favour and ignore it.

Wish I could give them 0 stars. Total scammers. Signed up for free trial and was unable to cancel. Couldn’t log in, couldn’t get through on the phone. When I finally managed to get through on the phone they told me that even though I had been unable to use the service due to not being able to log in, they would charge me anyway. I’ve never experienced this in my life. Appalling service, constantly bombarding me with threatening emails and I finally paid after they threatened me with debt collection … for a service I couldn’t even use! Absolute sham of a company and I wish I hadn’t been bullied into paying for something I was never able to use.
