Ripped off for cam belt and serpentine…

Ripped off for cam belt and serpentine belt replacement for £952 when same fiat engine costs between £390 - 430 for the same job, and now 2 week from job water pump or other part bearing noise that should not be there, and apparently only 1 year guarantee, when some supplier like Auto car parts have 4 year guarantee

Longstanding satisfied Fergusson customer

I've used Fergusson's for many years now initially for servicing my Suzuki Wagon R and more recently also our Ford Mondeo and have always been delighted by their work, pricing and gereral friendly approach to their customers. Fergusson's team are true motor engineers. I would strongly recommemd them.

Very Disappointed

I dropped off the car for diagnosis, then went on to read the reviews of this garage, I was shocked with the amount and the extent of the negative complaints. My car was making a tapping noise from the engine, engine misfire on cold start as well as some loss of power. I received a call, said it's from the engine and would have to strip down the engine. I knew it would be costly for a ~2K car , not worth it. I collected my car, counting my loss. I'm not a pro mechanic, but i know some stuff. With nothing to lose, I just checked the coil pack, and noticed some damage. I checked the spark plugs, and one was corroded. I changed the coil pack and the spark plugs on my own. Car is okay, no misfiring, no tapping noise.

How can a professional just listen to how car is sounding then recommend a costly job without investigating the simplest things. £50 just to keep a car overnight? How many cars are being misdiagnosed? How many people are being ripped off?

I was travelling up to Sutton on the 5th July to pick up family to catch a flight to Crete. The fan broke on my car so was able to leave it with this garage whilst away. If was checked and found to need several new parts. I can’t thank the owner enough for providing a professional efficient service. Yes the car wasn’t ready on the said day but that was of a delay of obtaining the new parts. Many thanks for providing a brilliant service.

I am very disappointed and upset with this garage as I took my car twice for coolant issue but failed to spot but took money from changing pipe and after replacing of 2 days my car had breakdown as heated engine due to lack of coolant and I luckily escaped and AA rescued us and their approved garage sorted my issue but again cost money
In my opinion, this garage is unreliable, dishonest and inexperienced

AVOID

AVOID. AVOID. AVOID. PLEASE RUN THE OTHER DIRECTION.

If I can help just ONE other person not go through this ordeal with this garage again, the time I have taken to share my experience will be worthwhile.

Professionally negligent and just incompetent. Integrity and honest work is a foreign concept for this garage and its owner.
Initial fault on the car was misdiagnosed. 2 major engine works were carried out- timing chain change and oil pump change without adequate diagnosis. 3k worth of works later, the car is in a worse condition to how we took it to this garage.

During 6 separate visits back to this garage over a 7 week period, we were told that they can find no mechanical issues with the car and the work they had completed is perfect. Finally we were told to just take the car to Mercedes Benz, because there is nothing more this garage can do for us – they can’t figure out where the fault is coming from.

Within the first few minutes Mercedes benz JUST OPENED the oil cap and figured out it was a damaged camshaft housing that was causing the issue. From MB’s diagnostics what should have been worked on from the outset is the camshaft and the camshaft housing- not the timing chain change or an oil pump change. In fact MB noted it could have initially just been a sensor that needed changing- we will never know anymore. We now know the broken camshaft housing was existing from September 2023 at the very least from an AA recovery report to another garage last year- we dug through and found on our emails.

If this garage had just done ONE SIMPLE JOB - JUST OPENED the oil cap and JUST visually inspected (yes the broken parts are visible as soon as you open the oil cap), we would have been spared the 3k bill and unnecessary works that has still left the car with the same issues. Over 6 visits over 7 weeks – no one at this garage thought opening the oil cap was a good idea? Forget the timing chain change.. how was the oil pump changed carried out without even opening the oil cap – atleast for completeness of professional work ethics sake?

Or were they SO UNSKILLED to notice the very obvious damage – just a wild guess – don’t you have to open the oil cap to refill the oil once the oil pump was changed?

Even on the timing chain that has been changed- the timing is out! The garage owner mentioned if we produce a report from MB saying their workmanship is faulty (timing is out) he will provide us with a refund. Of course- that was also a lie- we didn’t see a penny. Lies after lies after MORE LIES.

Throughout the whole 8 weeks of ordeal – the garage have shown no work ethics, professionalism, accountability or good workmanship with reasonable care. We have to date not even had an apology. The only thing we have heard is different version of ever changing claims, to mention a few:
-'its an electrical fault'
-'you have damaged the car after you collected from the garage'
-'we have ABSOLUTELY checked everything and can not find a single mechanical fault' - checked everything but just didn’t open the oil cap?
- 'the damage was preexisting' - of course it was preexisting, isn't that why we brought the car into you for repairs? Due to your incompetence you carried out the most expensive works on other mechanical parts than to the one needing it.

Sure, things go wrong in many trades. What sets you apart as person and a good business is how you deal with the mistake you have made. It’s called INTEGRITY. Just doesn't exist at this place.

We now have to pay 1000s again to a different garage to get us out of this mess. Do yourselves a favour and start at a different garage already.

I have to start chemotherapy next week – the only reason I have decided not to proceed with legal action is to protect my own HEALTH and EMOTIONAL WELLBEING.

What's gone wrong

3 hits- first appointment, asked by email and on there own site for vehicle pickup and return.
Checked day before and apparently no idea that I required this. Oh well..confirmed for week later.
Next Friday rearranged for pickup, so waited in and no one turned up , called, and told no one available as covid..oh well, late for work ..said I would bring next day- Saturday ,not good for me but couldn't risk no one turning up again, so ok.
Service done fine, advised new coil spring required, told I would be contacted on Monday and given price and booked in.
No one called, so couple days later rang up and got price and booked in ,was quoted 230+vat for single spring replacement.
When work completed went and picked up and quoted £430 in total..big argument on phone over price, we called each other liars and I asked what's wrong as I had never had any of these problems before. Got £50 discounted but left fuming. Maybe job was harder than thought, but I wouldn't do that to someone. So there it is, me and my family will not be using them again.

They serviced two of my vehicles

They serviced two of my vehicles. Both needed mots a month apart. First vehicle failed. Needed break shoes .. Day after noise coming from back wheel.. Went back to garage they said needed time to settle will be OK. Two days later luckily driving 30mph road back wheel came off. COULD have killed me and my family, Hub lock nut was not tightened. Called them to recover. They don't have recovery vehicle so had to pay 120 pounds, not refunded to get back to garage. They would not come down to see the car saying all work bays in use they will contact me when inspected.. Phoned saying bearings had collapsed damaging wheel hub. Will cost a lot to repair so should scrap car..... It's very reliable so I paid to repair it. Cost a lot..
SECOND VEHICLE MOT TEST... FAILED back wheel bearings worn... Got repaired. 30 months later back right side bearing whining needs replacing.... Two Words to describe them bloody useless....... Brian

Woofing fantastic

My dad took me with him to get a service and MoT. When Russell realised we were going to take a bus home, he said just to take me for a walk and they'd do the car immediately. I got my usual 2 hour walk and we drove home after. Woofing brilliant.

Awful experience!

Took our car in for a drivetrain message and check engine light.
Got a call from the garage saying it’s the turbo and will cost £2,500 nothing mentioned about the drivetrain. Got the work completed after a week or so. Within 2 days of having the car back the drivetrain light came on again, with this being a bank holiday we weren’t able to get the car checked til the following week.
When we got the car checked again we were told that a pipe had broken and had to pay out for this too bearing in mind the pipes were all fine when the car first went in. This then costing us more money.
Again got the car back and the drivetrain came on within a day or so.
When I took it back they said there were 6 faults that have come up with the car and that they would charge £500 to look at it and this could cost up to £2,500. I said not to do anything and collected the car.
When asked where my old turbo was to have it privately assessed, I was told that they threw it out straight away as they don’t keep them, then when I took it back for the pipe they said they had it and would put it in my car, then when I called again and said it wasn’t in the car he said we don’t have it.
Then I got the car checked again and the 6 faults occurred they miraculously found my turbo and put it in my car. Although they hadn’t had it for nearly a month or so!! I don’t not believe that this was my turbo for my car.
I took my car to another garage and they said there was one fault which could be a loose pipe. They smoke tested it and couldnt see anything wrong.

I gave up with the garage and booked directly with BMW to which they have said the don’t know why turbo needed changing and they are confused as to why it was changed and the price of it.

Also they reprogrammed the software in the car and changed the SOS battery which was the only problem showing on the car.

I would highly recommend to stay clear of this garage as they seem to care more about making money than fixing problems or causing more problems with your car so you have to go back and have the issues fixed….. COSTING YOU MORE MONEY!!!

Awful experience!

I booked an MOT through their website…

I booked an MOT through their website which stated that the price was £39. Once the MOT was done I was charged £45 and when I queried this I was told that it was an old price and that offer had expired. Even though the £39 was still live on their website at the time of the MOT! That and the fact that I was treated with such disregard, I will never be using them again.

Years of good work ruined

I'd used Fergussons for a few years for servicing and had no complaints. Unfortunately when I went in with a 'check engine' light that all changed. Of the two issues present, one was misdiagnosed after minimal diagnosis work and I was told Fergussons couldn't help, and for the other, a faulty part was fitted.

On driving the car I immediately emailed Fergussons to say that the car was behaving strangely in a way it never had before and returned, but all they did was plug in a code scanner and the fault wasn't identified.

On going to the main dealership, the faulty part was identified after proper diagnostics and replaced, and the other issue was correctly identified and fixed. The main dealership advised in writing that the part was faulty and I should be entitled to a refund.

Despite this, Fergussons have not offered a refund, arguing first that I should have alerted them and returned (which I did) and then that they wanted the faulty part back(? - obviously the main dealership isn't keeping faulty parts around).

Based on my experiences, be very wary of going here for anything complex or difficult - it's likely diagnostic work will be basic and potentially incorrect, work done may be faulty, they'll cast doubt on the motives of the garage that actually fixes their work, and no responsibility will be taken or recompense offered.

Done full service and MOT today

Done full service and MOT today. Engine oil looks same as before, blackish. I was told engine oil has been replaced when questioned. Never trust these cow boys, took it to a local garage they haven’t even opened engine oil cap. Charged me awful amount of money for dirty job. Very disappointed

Great service, friendly staff and all round a pleasure to deal with. I know a lot about cars and I have always serviced my own vehicles.
