They switched on smart services on my meter. I didnt ask them to they admitted that I didnt ask for it but then tell me the change is irreversible. Firstly they tried to convince me that I asked them to do it and then after logging a complaint and asking for a copy of the call they admitted I didn't request it. Looking at their ratings its clear they dont care anyway. Steer clear of EI they are frauds

Very Very Very poor customer service.

Very Very Very poor customer service.
I’ve been trying for over a month to correct an electricity bill, but the issue remains unresolved. It seems that the team is unable to read the electricity meter correctly. On my Electric Ireland account, there are several readings and related consumption figures that I have no idea where they came from.

I haven’t received any updates or information about possible roadblocks. I’ve also called their customer service, but there has been no progress. The ticket appears to be handled by multiple people who don’t seem to communicate with each other.

Woefully inadequate service.

Contacting and engaging with Electric Ireland customer service is bewildering. Unhelpful, ignorant, poorly trained call centre personnel who lack English language skills or a constructive attitude. An attempt to resolve a billing issue led to me being screeched at by a member of their team and called a liar. They break more than they fix. Failure to issue email alerts for bills for over 24 months, an inability to log onto their customer portal, no password change details sent. Clueless, apathetic and the scrapings of a pot of dirt. They are not effectively regulated by Government. You'll need sedation if you have to query anything with them. Customers come last with this steaming mound of tripe.

On pay as you go with them for years

On pay as you go with them for years. Always kept a note of our usage. Decided to switch to bill pay with them to try and save a few pennies. At the time we had 168 euro credit on PAYG meter. Was told by agent we wouldn't lose it (was then told by PAYG we would and to hold off until credit nearly exhausted, which we did). Was told 26% discount, then told no, best we can give is 16%. Every end of year bill says balance owing is zero. I have just got off the phone from them in tears, in the first week we have a bill for 570 euro. They have said could be up to a month to check it. We know we owed nothing, so now have to go to the bank monday to cancel the direct debit to ensure they can't take it. We were paying 70 euro a week on PAYG - I will be paying that off the bill until they actually sort it out, so I know we owe nothing. I wish we had gone with someone else, as a household with disabled children this is another level of stress. And no reply to emails.......

If I could give a zero I would

If I could give a zero I would. This has to be the worse company I have ever dealt with. Staff will tell you they’ll issue a query into an issue but will never get back to you. You have to ring multiple times about the same issue. They don’t explain anything. I got an estimated bill and submitted a reading and then the bill jumped up. I paid the bill on the day and they still took the estimated money out of my account. This never came off my next bill and when I questioned this they tried to tell me they deducted it off a bill from 8 months ago. All my bills were up to date because my last 3 bills there were meter readings submitted. It’s unbelievable that they’re allowed do this. My best advice to anyone going with them is don’t. Biggest bunch of robbers and this is only one incident I have many more but can’t fit all of it in this text box.

Probably the worst company in the electricity business company must be one of the worst in…

The company must be one of the worst in the industry. On switching from them due to many many problems, they then proceeded to pay 1400+ euros into my account as a final bill. Then they sent another bill, this time saying that I owed them over 1600 euros. Despite numerous phone calls and a letter from their Residential Customer Services Manager requesting to ring them, when I rang Customer Services, they said that they could not put me through to this individual.
My advice to anyone is to AVOID Electric Ireland at all costs as they are probably the worst company that I have ever had to deal with.

The company is a bastard

The company is a bastard! I have never seen anything worse! I don’t use gas in the summer! And I regularly receive payments for gas! There were a lot of offers with discounts! But even with these discounts it comes out more expensive than with the old energy supplier! I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE! THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM!!! I was at home for about 10 days in 2 months... and I received a full bill! I paid less in the winter with the old company than with them in the summer! 😂😂😂 Horrible!!! I’m leaving them! Bastards and scammers!! DO NOT TRUST THEM!

What on earth happened to Electric Ireland?

Have been with ESB - now Electric Ireland, since 1990's. Pay by Standing Order each month. With renewal - they will give a measly €50 off to stay in contract, but can knock 28% off to go direct-debit. We don't want direct-debit as they regularly get estimates wrong. So - check out the so-called competitors. All offer the exact same deals. The regulator, cru.ie, say that they can only suggest to people to keep changing every year, and that the direct-debit is the same with all. So really it's a standardised approach across the sector, and not the competition it was supposed to create. The regulator in this sector is essentially worthless.

Closure of company account

I am trying to close a company account for the last 2 month, we sent all information they asked for, 2 month after account has not been closed, call customer service, 2 of them left me hanging on the call never came back, third one I called said information send was incomplete but they never communicated that there was an issue. An absolute disgrace the way they talk to you.

The staff I spoke could not speak english properly. I could not understand them. One man became very arrogant and condescending towards me, would not listen, you have to do this, you have to do that. No customer care skills, no listening skills and definitely has an issue with women.

Good Customer Support, But App Needs Work

I’ve been with Electric Ireland for around three years now, and overall, my experience has been fine. The one positive has been their customer support team — anytime I’ve needed help, they’ve been helpful, and able to clearly explain what’s going on. Usually been really quick to get through to them also.

That said, the online app has caused some frustration. I often find it confusing as it doesn’t seem to update in real time. On a few occasions, the app showed that my bill had been paid, only for me to receive a letter a week later confirming that the direct debit wasn’t successful. It creates unnecessary confusion and usually leads to me having to call support to get clarity.

If the app were more intuitive and up-to-date, it would really improve the overall experience. For now, the service is okay — reliable enough, but definitely a lot of room for improvement on the digital side.

When you call electric ireland you get…

When you call electric ireland you get an agent. They HAVE to mention direct debit and online billing on EVERY call - even if you have it already, even though this has nothing to do with why you called. If they dont the agent fails the call. Depending on who reviews the call, if you are asked about it in the begining of the call, they may fail the call. If you are asked about it during the call, they may fail you. Its nuts - the agent has to sell it to you even though thats probably not why you called. The reason why Loyalty can not match other companies offers is because they are not allowed to. Seriously, the agents don't work for electric ireland - they work for Abtran - the call centre is outsourced. Abtran gets told by electric ireland what to say and do on the calls. Most of the agents can't speak English well enough to understand a question. Abtran takes on hundreds of staff because they know that most will not stay - they pay peanuts and dont insist on staff being able to speak english (even though they say they do). Most staff either a) csnt speak English well enough or b) dont want to do the job - they think its an easy job, but it is not and they dont care about YOU - the customer. Under Electric Irelands customer charter you are entitled to 40 euros compensation PER ERROR but they (Abtran) will only allow their 'Supervisors' (again abtran staff) to give one 40 euro payment. If you ask for a manager you get an Abtran Team Leader - not an Electric Ireland manager. If you call and think you are logging a complaint - you are not. Unless you specifically say 'log a complaint' the agents are not allowed to log it. If you speak to a supervisor and ask for a Subject Access Request (SAR) - copies of your details / calls- they supervisor us not allowed to log it (which is against the law / GDPR legislation) - they have to offer to resolve the issue....which they have already said they cannot do, and you, the customer, is already frustrated with the company and hence the sar request. And don't forget - they aren't allowed to go to the bathroom. They have 7 min away from desk a day and a 30 min lunch break - other departments get a bit longer. Other accounts in Abtran have removed this, but not for the Electric Ireland Account. If you need longer for the bathroom - too bad - as one Manager said - cross your legs and hold it in or wear nappies!

Good customer service to cancel within cooling off period

I found a better deal with another supplier (which also has better Trustpilot reviews) and wanted to switch during the cooling off period. I signed up with the other supplier and called Electric Ireland (sales team) to cancel with them and it was very easy and quick to do.
