Founded in 1977, we're a bicycle shop with a difference - a workers' cooperative whose members own a fair share of the business and receive an equal share of the profits. We have 6 shops across Scotland and North East England, and we sell top name electric bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes, folding bikes, parts, accessories and clothing for men, women and kids. We also offer repairs, bike and e-bike servicing by expert mechanics.

We had such a brilliant experience at the Edinburgh Bike Shop when my dad came in to choose, buy and then returned to collect his new eBike. Andrew and Lee were kind, patient, attentive, and genuinely went the extra mile.
On collection day, Andrew took so much time with my dad (and me), explaining everything clearly and calmly. His patience was impeccable and his manner was lovely - we never once felt rushed - and were treated like the only customers in the shop. We left feeling confident, far more informed, and genuinely excited for some new bike adventures.
Lee was also fantastic and helped us out to the car, which really topped off the whole experience. We drove away with such a good feeling - this is exactly what great customer service looks like.
Thank you so much to Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op and especially to Andrew and Lee!

Bought online : bag Orltlieb Vario QL2.1, black with mesh pocket on side on picture. description on website is misleading and not enough (missing the size of backpack). I received wrong model without mesh pocket on side and the size description was only on invoice paper. If the product was described correctly online, lots of time would be saved. Ok customer service and got money back, but wasted time because wrong model arrived to what is listed, had to send it back. Bought correct model in another company. This wrong model of 26liters with mesh pocket is still on their website for £135 to what they send for that price which is Ortlieb Vario QL 2.1 (20liters without mesh pocket). Be aware

Absolute rip-off merchants. Wife took bike into Newcastle store for a new chain and got sold a load of new parts that weren’t needed - new cassette, cables. They replaced a tyre and disk pads without even asking her if she wanted it done! £300+ bill! Very poor practice!
E bike bought in July 2025 developed a fault in the lighting which took 3 months to repair. The repair lasted a few days before developing again. The shop operative attributed the fault to me and refused to honour the warranty.
Contacted shop at Bruntsfield asking about replacement crank arm for Whyte e bike.

Canonmills branch.
Had a poor experience last year but (stupidly) thought I'd try again this year for annual software flash as it is closer to home than the main branch.
Called in to arrange an appointment for a walk-in and wait. They later phoned to change the day as the staff on duty had made a mistake.
Turned up at the appointed time to be told it was not possible as they had a recent delivery to sort out!
Mr Hartley does not seem to be a very customer friendly manager and suggested I took my bike elsewhere.
I later phoned Alvaney Terrace who helpfully advised that a software update was not required at the moment.
I Purchased a giant E-bike and I have had nothing but problems had 3 motors 2 broken seats and 6 displays even it got back after a new motor with play on the crank and the mechanic blamed me nothing ever gets checked every time I put it there is always something else wrong. The wheel wasn’t tightened up one of the times. I have only had the bike over a year. emailed them after I got the 3rd motor got changed as there was creaking coming from the crank area again no response then emailed them on 8/6/25 saying the lcd was flickering no response so emailed them again on the 11/6/25 saying will I take the bike in or will they order the part I also emailed giant nothing back from either it’s now 10/7/25 I don’t think they can fix the bike and hope I disappear the bike is under warranty so this is a breach of contract so I am now out of pocket I have reported this to the relevant authorities avoid the company at all costs as they if anything goes wrong they can’t fix it they had the bike more than myself no use having a bike if you can’t ride it
I bought a new bike from this company about 2 months ago, May 2025 and had a couple of problems from the offset. The handlebars weren't straight, nor was the seat and a small plastic cap was missing from the pannier rack. All minor things so I just took the bike back to the shop and they fixed them there and then.
I then got a free 6 week service and when I picked the bike up the handlebars were completely loose. I got on the bike, went to cycle off and they just turned, totally loose. Luckily I managed to get off while still upright but I took the bike straight back into the shop and showed them the handlebars. One member of staff walked away the other came over and said "I'll just tighten those" which he duly did. I got an apology but jeez, I could have been seriously hurt! I'm now quite wary on my bike.

A Tale of Two Halves
I must begin by commending the impeccable service I received from a gentleman named Gavin. His knowledge, attentiveness, and care were truly of the highest calibre—world-class, in fact. He guided me expertly, and I am utterly delighted with the bicycle and products he recommended.
However, regrettably, the experience following that initial engagement took a rather unfortunate turn. Deliveries failed to materialise as scheduled, and to my dismay, I was wrongly accused of attempting to make a fraudulent claim—an assertion that was not only wholly unfounded but later retracted, albeit without so much as a formal apology. The original items I ordered had to be substituted, and the entire transaction became unexpectedly fraught.
Spending £5,000 in such a manner was, frankly, not the experience I had anticipated.
That said, it is important to acknowledge that the business did, in the end, rectify the situation. I received an excellent selection of products, and I have every confidence that, should any issues arise in the future, they would make every effort to assist. My only counsel to the business would be this: take these learnings to heart, and strive to ensure consistency throughout the customer journey.
Despite the turbulence, I remain a firm believer in supporting independent retailers. The market is already saturated with faceless corporate giants, and it is vital that we continue to champion the independents who offer passion, personality, and genuine expertise. Businesses such as this deserve the opportunity not only to survive but to flourish.
