Excellent service

Overall, I can highly recommend Dr. Walter without reservation – a trustworthy and customer-oriented insurance provider with excellent service.

I have had very positive experiences with the insurance company Dr. Walter. The service is reliable and professional. Particularly noteworthy is the quick handling of inquiries as well as the competent and friendly advice.

The insurance products offered are clearly structured and well tailored to the needs of international clients. Even in the event of a claim, everything was handled smoothly and efficiently, which gave me a strong sense of security.

Unprofessional claims handling and breach of communication (Policy PWT-120001)

I am writing this to highlight the unprofessional behavior of the Dr-Walter Claims Department. My claim (PWT-120001) has been handled with a complete lack of consistency and transparency.

The department has provided three contradictory reasons for denying my claim:

Initially, they claimed documents were "illegible" (resolved by providing digital receipts).
Then, they termed medical treatment for a diagnosed condition as "preventive."
Finally, they claimed a "pre-existing condition" based on non-specific symptoms, ignoring evidence-based medical facts and the official diagnosis date.
After a formal escalation, I received an email from the Claims Department on December 15, 2025, stating they would "carefully re-examine the case" and "inform me immediately."
It has been 19 days, and I have received no response. This delay and the refusal to engage with the actual medical facts of the case are unacceptable for a licensed German insurance administrator. I expect a professional resolution immediately, not more generic templates.

UPDATE (2026-01-10):
It has now been more than 25 days since your promise on December 15 to “inform me immediately”. Using public holidays as an explanation for complete silence over such an extended period is not acceptable for a professional insurance administrator.

My case is not “complex”; what appears complex is the way you have handled it. You have already cycled through three different explanations: technical (“illegible documents”), medical (“preventive”), and finally legal (“pre-existing condition”). In German insurance practice, inconsistent and shifting reasons for a denial are widely seen as a red flag for bad-faith handling of claims.

I therefore request a final, formal decision that explains, in writing, why the reasons for denying my claim have changed and which exact policy clauses you rely on. In the absence of a professional and transparent response, I will proceed with escalating this case to BaFin (Federal Financial Supervisory Authority) to address these “denial fishing” tactics and the breach of professional standards.

Dear Marina,

First of all, please accept our sincere apologies that you have not yet received a comprehensive explanation regarding your case. We fully understand your concerns and truly regret the inconvenience this delay may have caused.

Please be assured that your case is still actively under review. Due to a high concentration of public holidays and the seasonal holiday period, we unfortunately experienced temporary capacity constraints, which led to delays in processing within the complaints-department. We understand that this is not ideal, and we sincerely apologize for this situation.

In addition, your case involves complex and sensitive matters. For this reason, we believe it is most appropriate to provide you with a detailed and accurate explanation via email, ensuring that all information is handled carefully and in compliance with applicable data protection requirements.

We will therefore contact you shortly by email with a thorough and transparent update. Please rest assured that we are treating this matter with the highest priority and care.

Once again, we are very sorry that a sufficient explanation has not yet been provided. We truly regret this and appreciate your continued patience while we work through this complex case.

-----------
Update:

As mentioned in previous emails, several issues are being mixed up here.
The three points you criticize are actually three different issues. It became “complex” because invoices for multiple illnesses/doctor visits were submitted in a single procedure. Regarding your questions (for data protection reasons, we will not go into further detail here on Trustpilot):

- Illegible/difficult to read documents: Unfortunately, this was the case, and as you yourself wrote, the problem was solved by sending us more legible documents (digital receipts).
- Rejection due to a pre-existing condition: This treatment was rejected because the illness was based on a pre-existing condition and this is not covered by the insurance.
- Rejection due to preventive measures: These (other) treatments were rejected because the treatments performed are considered preventive measures, and preventive treatments are not covered by the insurance.

So the reasons have not changed, but there were two different reasons why your treatments or bills could not be covered.

We hope that this renewed explanation provides you with the necessary transparency.

Kind regards,
Your DR-WALTER Feedback-Team

Just what was needed for this Expat

I chose Dr Walter Provisit because signup was fast, coverage started on my arrival date, and the price was fair. I liked clear terms, simple claims instructions, and quick support. It made relocation easier and stress free.

I needed temporary coverage while moving and I wanted something I could purchase online without paperwork delays or medical questionnaires. The website made the process simple. I entered personal data, selected a start date, and paid. I received policy documents instantly and the information was clear and easy to understand. The policy listed coverage for doctor visits, emergency care, prescriptions, travel coverage, and medical evacuation, which matched basic needs during relocation. Customer support responded to emails in under a day and answered direct questions with short, clear explanations. The cost stayed predictable and competitive, which helped with budget planning during the move. I recommend it to anyone relocating or waiting for public insurance because it gives fast coverage with low effort and reliable support.

Good insurance overall

I had different issues when I needed the insurance as a student in Germany and despite the fact that there were controversial case in my situation - overall everything was resolved really well. I am thankful for their work and actually I think they did more than I expected. I have them for almost 3 years and price wise it really helped me! The only thing is the communication, sometimes you have different people who respond and they loose stuff and some mess happened, but I would choose them again and reccomend them to my friends!

Dr Walter provisit Germany - really good experience

I have Dr Walter provisit Germany insurance because I am on a 2 years VISA. Had an emergency (ambulance and all) and I was honestly super stress about the cost. In the end, I just had to send my bills and it was process in less than a month and I got reimbursed. I usually have little faith in insurance companies but in this case: really good service! And when you have an issue you can call them to talk to someone in english and they will help you.

Scam

This is a joke. Please do not get this insurance. Dr-Walter will find any correlation between your medical issue and something that happened in your life from before the travel, and then say it started before so we will not cover it.

I mean I don't understand this policy to begin with. How often does someone have a medical issue that is not based on some kind of background history from earlier in their life? Really only accidents would be true independent medical issues that do not depend on a time from before you had the insurance.

Dear Moses,
Thank you for your honest feedback. We are very sorry that you were dissatisfied with your experience. Please rest assured that we would never leave our customers without support in an emergency. At the same time, as a travel insurer, we are bound by clear standards: insurance coverage applies to acute illnesses and accidents that occur during the trip, as well as to illnesses that first occurred during the trip and were not directly related (the result of a pre-existing condition). However, pre-existing conditions are not covered—this is where we differ from comprehensive health insurance.
We understand that these rules sometimes cause discontent, but they are communicated clearly and transparently in the terms and conditions of the contract before it is concluded. If you contact us directly under feedback@dr-walter.com, we will be happy to review your individual case again.

Dr Walter's incompetence is striking

Dr Walter handles claims for Genki insurance. Their system only allows for 5 invoices to be filed at a time. For each filing they ask the same information: Which insurance you have, how the accident happened, your account number etc. All information you have already provided.
Then for each 5 invoices filed a different team member gets back to you. Often with wrong or dubious interpretations of your insurance coverage.

All in all it appears to be a setup by the insurance company and the handler Dr Walter to not pay any compensation.

Dear Rune,
Thank you for sharing your experience. We're truly sorry to see that you rated us with only one star, that’s of course disappointing for us, and we take your feedback seriously.
In order to thoroughly document and assess each claim, individual case files are created. This allows us to ensure clarity, and assign different team members as needed, a common and established practice in claims handling.
We’re currently experiencing a very high volume of requests, so we sincerely apologize for any delay or inconvenience this may have caused. We assure you that all claims are evaluated fairly and thoroughly, and processed as promptly as possible.

Best regards,

Good service

I requested a cancellation because my insurance got rejected, and I get generic messages about my request is taking longer than expected without any info, at this time I would think my money got scammed

Update: My request got issued, I assume that I'm getting back my money, if so, i would keep this 5-star for creditibility
