Your vehicle was booked in for an Class 7 MOT, last minute because the garage that you booked it in with mistakenly booked you in as a Class 4 and upon your arrival cancelled as they were unable to carry out a Class 7 MOT. We carried out an MOT here at DMS on 01/10/25, where the vehicle then failed on emissions, and a print out was given to yourself from the machine to prove this was the case.
The vehicle was then collected the same day, where myself, David Sanderson, had a conversation with you, about the emissions problem and suggested what could be causing a high emissions reading and excessive black smoke. You indicated that you wanted us here at DMS to have a look at the fault, but couldn't bring the vehicle back for us to do so, as you were going on holiday.
I suggested that IF the vehicle had a wet belt, you would you need to check the history of the wet belt i.e if it has been changed at any point, or not, before we could carry out any sort of diagnostics on your vehicle, due to it being common fault of them snapping at any time for no reason. You agreed with this and left relatively happy to go and check this out, and this is the first communication we have had since the vehicle being collected.
I did NOT at any point, tell you that your van had a wet belt. I asked you to check this for yourself, because on a 2015 transit i am WELL aware that these could either have a wet belt or a chain. As you are the owner of the vehicle, it is your responsibility to keep a record and inform any garage/technician working on your vehicle when the wet belt has been changed, due to these snapping at any time .
It is good practice for all garages, to remind you of the wet belt issue, with any transit custom. We would not know if your vehicle had a chain or a wet belt, until we investigated this (which you are aware we didn't do, because you made no other payment towards us, other than a mot)
No arrangements were made with ourselves to investigate. If we had carried out an investigation, yes would of informed you that your vehicle does not in fact have a wet belt, and we would of carried out further investigating on why your vehicle failed on emissions and would of returned back to yourself with a quote for repairs.
To reiterate, I did NOT at any point tell you your vehicle had a wet belt, i said IF it has one, check when/if it has ever been replaced. You never paid for a diagnostics with ourselves, it was a conversation we had as we wasn't sure why it had failed on the emissions without an investigation taking place.
To conclude, I did NOT confirm your vehicle had a wet belt or a chain this conversation is recorded on our in office CCTV camera which we will be happy to provide if you still choose to seek legal advice.
