Delta doesn't pay for anything. That's the whole idea of insurance. My wife needed wisdom teeth removed. They paid a pittance. Not even worth it. Then, of course they dictate to the dentist what they... See more

Was told it would cover certain things and I had to pay 1700.00 out of pocket. It's ridiculous how much you pay for coverage and to find out it really doesn't cover very little

My company recently transistioned from…

My company recently transistioned from MetLife to Delta Dental and there customer service is terrible! I have spent several hours being transferred to get what in the past was relatively easy questions answered. I recently had a terrible experience with someone named Monica, who started yelling her responses at me. Giving her the benefit of the doubt that it was one of those days, but in the end I still didn't get my questions answered.

Dental office charges more than Delta says I am to pay.

I was diagnosed with needing a root canal redone. The dental office, Smile Design, quoted me an outrageous amount. I asked for a predetermination and was told my portion would be $369. On check out they tried to collect an extra $533, claiming that Delta did not have a code for the whole procedure. It has been more than two months since the procedure was done and I am still fighting with this office. I asked Delta if I would have the same problem with another dentist in their network and they said they could not guarantee that. I left my last dental insurance, GEHA, do to the same issue. I'm beginning to think and feel the insurance companies are a scam as they tell you one price you are to pay but the dental office can just ignore that. The dental offices sign a contract with Delta to abide by their fees so it is only fair to say they are in violation of a contract.

I have the Delta Dental High PPO plan…

I have the Delta Dental High PPO plan and need significant work done by my Periodontist. The Dr has done a full consultation, submitted to Delta for a pre-treatment estimate and found out this policy and what is covered is horrible. My treatment plan will cost $15000.000. Delta will cover $2289.50. Most everything is not covered by Delta - laser root treatment, biological material for bone grafting, studs for snap in dentures. They are covering extracting my bottom teeth basically. Nothing else. When I am about to have major restorative surgery for my mouth, Delta has left the building and I ma paying the price every month for nothing. Laser deep cleaning is the standard today for all periodontists - but nothing is covered. Bone grafting is common place, especially for the elderly which I am, but no coverage - and I have the highest priced policy I can buy from the Federal Benefits Program!!!

they don't even care to sign you up

I'm on the patient direct (discount) plan. The plan is up for renwal. Before renewing I went to their site to check on participating dentists. The site says there are no dentists within 100 miles of warren mi participating in the plan. I filled out a contact form asking for help on this. A week later I got an email saying "due to HIPAA regulations please email name, addr, DOB, and SSN". I replied that I won't send this info via email. I week later I received another reply saying "We need your information in order to see the plan you have. The patient direct card is a discount plan not actual insurance". (Think about this - why d you need this information to see which dentists participate in the plan you offer?) This time I called the 800 number. Eventually after going thru a menu got to a person. I explained that I'm looking for participating dentists near me. The person said I'll direct your call to someone who can help. That took me back to the same menu as when I first called. I gave up at this point. If it takes this much effort just to sign up imagine what it would be like to make a claim.

HOW DO THEY STAY IN BUSINESS??

Insurance broker tried for 2 days to access website to sign me up for insurance & kept getting error messages. After I was signed up (and had account number, etc.), tried to access my account online and kept getting error messages. No phone number is listed on the website nor is it offered under "Contact Us". Then, they double billed me on my CC. Had to contact Customer Service via phone. Told I will be sent a check to be rec'd within 7-10 days. No credits given via CC. Not looking forward to being a Delta Dental member.....
Jan 2023. NEVER received check as CR stated. After multiple calls, "accounting" applied it to future payments instead (without my permission). REALLY?!

PLEEEASSSE don't use Delta Dental

PLEEEASSSE don't use Delta Dental. They are horrible at paying their claims. Filed claim in May . . . It's now Oct and they still won't pay claim and just continue to ask for same information over and over again. Then make promises that it will be paid the next day . . . but thus far the next day has turned into months without change. PLEASE EMPLOYERS DON'T DO THIS TO YOUR EMPLOYEES!! They only want the business to get the premiums, but your employees will get runarounds.

Company cancelled me when my credit…

Company cancelled me when my credit card autopayment stopped because someone stole my credit card number. I explained this to them and they didn't care. Said that I couldn't renew for 6 months leaving me in the middle of surgery for an infected tooth. They are the worst! - 5 rating.

I too would give them a negative rating…

I too would give them a negative rating (as in minus 1 out of 5 stars). One is not low enough. They pay nothing that they claim that they will (50 percent of something, then they actually pay nothing). What they claim the dentist "agreed to" I have to pay double. I am finally tired of them, and am trying to cancel, but am unable to talk to anyone without being on hold for 2 hours. If you cancel online, you get the same message that they are not able to perform that function at this time. When you call the number they provide, again, you are unable to talk to anyone because "they are experiencing high call volumes " Apparently 24 hours a day, every day. They allow you to leave a phone number so they can call you back, but you NEVER get called back. If you need NO DENTAL INSURANCE at all, they are only charging you a small monthly fee (I guess to continue their scam). I have sent them two letters asking to cancel, but I continue to get notice that I have a payment due. LUCKILY, I was able to remove all payment methods, so they cannot collect. I am next writing to the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General of PA. Do not waste you money on these crooks.

I got scammed

I paid a lot of money can't create an account, have no dental card, and can't get anyone on the phone. I need to go in for a teeth cleaning but have no way to use this overpriced insurance I can't even access! I'm going to have to dispute the credit card charge with my bank because no one will talk to you unless they're selling you insurance. Once they have your money there's no way you can create an account. I wasted over $90 dollars trying to get what people call "good dental" insurance and I can't even get help signing in or creating an account. I should just go without insurance because I'm so enraged about this. They just take the money and run. I'm tired of getting robbed by insurance companies. America sucks don't come here if you're thinking about it.

The worst company

The worst company. Just taking money from your pocket. I canceled autopayment on August 2021, but they continued to charge money from my bank card after that for 3 months now. Now I have to pay a huge fee to the bank because it shouldn't be any charges from this bank card.

My husband and I signed on with Delta…

My husband and I signed on with Delta Dental in May. First we attempted to in April, by mail with a check. They "never received it" I was told on the phone by a very nice agent. I asked "If I sign up online, will they attempt to process the check when they find my original app?" She assured me that they would not, that when they enter the info into the system it'll show we already have a paid account and they won't process the form or check. I registered online. A few weeks later they tried to process the check...of course it bounced. TWICE. I contacted them to stop this process and request a reimbursement for late fees incurred. My request was entered. Nothing happened. I followed up and had to explain all over again, over and over and over again in one very long conversation because the first persons notes were not coherent. This person assured me he entered my request, wrote out coherent notes and told me to contact him directly a couple of days later to follow up. I followed up with him two days later and nothing. Absolutely nothing. So, I email a rant CC'ing him to DD. I was finally responded to a couple of WEEKS later. They apologized, requested I do a couple of things so they could proceed. I did. NOTHING. On top of all of this, it took a month for my husband to get into a dentist for a much needed cleaning and check up. That dentist only took a look, an x-ray and handed my husband an estimate for his first cleaning appt of over $400 out of pocket. SERIOUSLY? That is not what the price sheet says to expect. Not even close. I requested an inquiry into this and asked if my husband would be free to choose another dentist and make another appointment to get his cleaning. However, no one can be bothered to get back to us on this either. My husband says he feels like they pulled a Bait-n-switch on us. That is FRAUD! We've paid in full for the year and his appointment couldn't occur until well AFTER the cancelation deadline (convenient) we are stuck until next year. But I guarantee we have no plans on renewing. They are really going to have to jump through hoops and provide outstanding customer service (in other words perform a serious miracle) between now and then to get us to change our minds. I'm not holding my breath.

OK: After going over the dentists quote with a fine tooth comb and a web search for terms I have determined the quote was for descaling and a filling...NOT the requested cleaning. That was my misunderstanding because I listened to my husband about his appointment instead of diving deeper. However, that doesn't change the fact that DD never responded to our concerns.

If I could give this insurance company…

If I could give this insurance company a minus star, I would. These people are scam artists. They say one thing on their website and when it comes to pay, they reject most procedures or pay a fraction of the cost. Stay away from this company.

Delta Dental: Disappointing. Scam? Or Just Scam-Like?

Delta Dental screwed me over.

Fact 1: Just before my Delta Dental benefits were going to accrue at the six month mark, they dropped my autopay enrollment without my direction, or consent, or any form of notification. This created a lapse in insurance that effectively started the clock back to zero.

Fact 2: When I contacted Delta Dental to ask them to resolve this, and offered to make the two payments they missed if they would reinstate my plan and honor my original enrollment date, they wanted to get me on the phone to "talk it over." I responded asking for a response in writing. Never heard back. THE END.

Bigger picture? I would suggest trying a dental discount plan rather than an insurance plan. Helpful savings but often without a waiting period. Or just have a general rainy day fund for things like dental care, medical bills, car repairs, etc.

Attention! Delta Dental Insurance Enrollees!

Attention: if you are looking for dental insurance! This is one company you want nothing to do with. Their coverage is so abysmal that dentists are beginning to refuse to accept Delta! The reason is Delta is reimbursing the dentist at rates that are lower than they were 30 years ago, changing what they will cover, and in many instances not paying for a service at all! The dentist doesn't this until after the fact. Some unscrupulous providers will over diagnose and over treat a patient just to make up the difference in the reimbursement. There are even providers that charge and then not even do what they are billing for! It is even worse for those people that sign-up for Delta or any insurance HMO...
Be smart and read the fine print!
