Purchased Silver Copse Ducksdback while I was happy with the product the colour is nothing like advertised. It's supposed to be a mid grey however, it's definitely a shade of navy blue. Can't afford to keep buying tins of fence paint to test. Any ideas how I can get it to a mid grey?

I used the Cuprinol Garden Shades to paint anl bare wood Adirondack chair and footstool. Despite them getting a lot of use, the paint lasted much longer than the six years specified. I repainted them yesterday, applying lovely forget-me-not over the original paint and it was a joy to use. I applied it with a brush, rather than a sprayer, as I was working in a confined space, but even so each coat took only an hour to do, with the paint going on smoothly and evenly. I applied two coats, with about three hours in between. Both coats dried evenly, leaving my very old Adirondack chair and footstool looking like new. I just wish I had thought to take before and after photos, as I could have included them in this review.

Gave me the answer I need so I didn’t buy the wrong thing

Very thin and watery , despite applying several coats i still can’t get a coverage that isn’t transparent . This tints the wood, it isn’t paint and shouldn’t be advertised as such. Will be going straight in to the bin and I won’t buy from Cuprinol again.

Despite preparing and cleaning decking prior to application the decking paint wasn’t adequate to cover the area it specified it would. Bought another tin and within weeks the paint had peeled off. The end result is terrible and the paint has all but come off leaving the decking looking terrible. A very expensive mistake and very dissatisfied

We put 3 coats of cuprinol decking stain on the decking by our door. I now spend every day cleaning my tiles trying to get off the paint fragments off. It's even coming off on areas which aren't walked on. We're going to have to blast this rubbish off. A very expensive waste of time and money.

The Cuprinol Ducksback in Misty Heathland that I have purchased for my shed is nothing like the greenish grey on the tin. No element of green there at all, it’s more a dirty cream. I thought whiteness might fade in application, but no such luck. The paint itself has the consistency of cottage cheese, even after much stirring, it’s difficult to pick up on the brush and takes forever to brush out evenly. Very disappointed, especially as I read I will only ever be able to repaint it with more of the same.
Update- I have been contacted by Cuprinol who confirmed the paint I purchased was faulty and they were very helpful, resulting in a refund and vouchers for a replacement product, with instructions on how to over paint the Ducksback. Thank you, especially to Helen who dealt with this issue promptly.

Compared to 5 years ago it's almost pure water. Went on my very light wooden shed transparent! Have requested refund from cuprinol. Premium price tag for the worst fence paint I've ever used!
Tested a part with 3 coats was still a patchy mess

After spending 3 days stripping sanding and cleaning my shed in the lovely weather we've had recently, I decided to re stain using Cuprinol Garden Shades Warm Folliage which was mixed by my local supplier .
So, on opening the tin I was surprised to see a very pale almost putty like shade , whereas the shade Warm Folliage is shown to be a more natural brown on the colour chart .I was thinking there must have been a mistake in the mixing process or that it would dry to resemble the colour I had hoped for. So, using a brush I applied a very watery first coat, left to dry for the day in the sun and then applied a second coat the following day but I'm deeply disappointed the resulting colour is not even in the spectrum of the colour I was led to believe I was buying . Luckily , I only purchased one of the two litres needed but even so at £12.60 , a very expensive disappointment for me , but a nice profit for suppliers when these colour charts are misleading us and we are then forced to purchase more paints or stains in my case to rectify

Cuprinol Garden Shades : Willow. The best paint that I have ever used outside on wood. I recently painted a largish outside Pergola/Sunroom. This paint is far superior to other well known brands. Easy to apply with a brush but don’t recommend a Spray Gun.
Another well known brand (the main competitor to Cuprinol), was useless, with terrible coverage and simply did not do “what it says on the tin”!
The only downside is the high cost, but this paint is well worth it in my opinion.

I bought the white paint and it was like spreading milk over my furniture. If you have a lot of time and patience to give everything a dozen coatings then this is for you. If you want value for money, great results and a fraction of time spent, then don't go anywhere this. Tried painting one chair and ended up throwing the rest. So annoying

We just paid £38 for 5l of cuprinol shades for our daughters brand new playhouse. I wish I had read the reviews before buying. It is a watery thin mess! The playhouse has had 3 coats and you can still see the wood, there's also drips and runs everywhere. My husband works in construction so je is familiar with how to paint but no mater how careful and steady he's been with the application it's an absolute eyesore!
Ruined an expensive playhouse!

I tried Ron, but even though a tub of ducks back is £4 more a tub, it is next level. My decking has half&half just now and ive got the pics , video that shows the Cuprinol beads up the rain, whereas the Ron is sponge'n.
Gr8 product

Forest Green. Nice colour and yes it's waxy and so needed more than 2 coats on an old fence and even then it didn't completely cover the old blue paint as it kept coming through. Would not recommend this product

Sticky Nightmare After Cuprinol UV Guard: Honest Review
After applying this product exactly as instructed (on clean, dry Scandinavian softwood decking, using a brush, in perfect weather), I experienced severe tackiness that lasted for days — and later weeks. The surface remained sticky, unusable, and released a strong chemical smell, especially in sunlight.
It took multiple attempts to resolve the issue, including washing with water, water + detergent (which did nothing), and finally cleaning every single board manually with methylated spirits followed by wiping dry. Only then did the tackiness disappear — but the odor lingered.
In the end, the only positive outcome is that some of the oil likely soaked into the wood, so a basic level of water resistance probably remains. Visually, the wood survived — thanks to its quality — but the entire process was frustrating, time-consuming, and avoidable.
This product might work if applied with near-laboratory precision in an ultra-thin layer, but even a slight excess leads to a surface disaster.
Better guidance from the manufacturer and honest user reviews would’ve saved me hours of unnecessary work.
Never again this product!!

Absolute rubbish watery paint that never lasts any amount of weathering before needing another couple of coats. People need to stop buying familiar brand named rubbish and start looking for actual decent paint. These companies are robbing you all blind and you fall for it hook, line and sinker.

Bough Cuprinol White Daisy from The Range 5 x 2.5l for a 1m x 35m long fence.
Gave our fence 3 coats over 3 days, time will tell how well it takes to the weather.
An absolute disaster to work with, any thinner and it was water. Very poor coverage and spread and had to be very careful of the runs.
I’ve used Johnstons prior to Cuprinol and clear to say I’ll be using Johnstons again, thicker paint and brilliant on wood. Cuprinol stop watering down your paint.

I bought Cuprinol ducksback for our garden fence. It was the delicate pine colour. We used 7 tins (5ltr) for a fence that is approx 60 square metres.
We painted it twice, over 2 days, a coat each day. We put much more on the fence than was recommended. It was prepared correctly, and was bone dry (over 20 degrees) for weeks before and stayed dry for few weeks after too (it was painted around a month ago).
Just been outside and the paint is coming off in the rain! It looked brilliant when done, but now is starting to come off. Not happy!
