Rip-Off Bait and Switch
CubeSmart Storage raised my monthly rate by more than 30% without any notice. That is an unacceptable way to treat customers, particularly when there was no advance warning that such a substantial increase was coming.
A price increase of this magnitude should be communicated clearly and well in advance, giving customers an opportunity to decide whether they want to continue renting under the new terms. Instead, I was simply hit with a dramatically higher monthly charge.
I am extremely disappointed with CubeSmart’s lack of transparency and customer consideration. A 30%+ increase without notice is unacceptable, and based on this experience, I cannot recommend CubeSmart Storage.
One star—and only because zero stars isn't an option.
Complete corporate scam
Complete corporate scam. The "nice local owners" have no say in anthing.
1st month- $120
2nd month- $145
4th month- $165
Now they announce another rate hike.
25% increase to $204. I'm out.
Plus they charge $5 to pay online.
If you call the corporate office, a nasty district manager will call back days later and say it's in the fine print.
All lies, all fine print, all a scam.
Use local family owned storage who have to care about their business.
I would not recommend CubeSmart.
I would not recommend CubeSmart.
I rented my unit because of the competitive monthly rate of $151. What I didn't expect was for rate increases to begin just five months after I moved in. In only 14 months, my rent had climbed to $229—a staggering 52% increase.
The problem is that once you've moved all your furniture and belongings into a storage unit, you're essentially stuck. Moving everything to another facility is expensive, time-consuming, and physically exhausting. It certainly feels like CubeSmart knows most customers won't go through the hassle of moving, making it much easier to keep raising rates.
If you're considering CubeSmart, don't be fooled by the low introductory rate. Ask how often they raise rents and by how much before you sign. The price you agree to today may have very little to do with what you'll actually be paying a year later. I wish I had known that before renting there.
Antioch TN
Antioch TN. Rented over a year. Rat pee and poop ruined my things. They refuse to take responsibility. The insurance they force on you won’t pay anything. I had moved out a couple weeks and was told to sign an abandonment form. I refused. I didn’t abandon anything. Then she said she didn’t have my signature on file and needed it to give me my 2 week refund for early departure. So she wanted me to sign a lock cut form. I told her I have my lock if there is a lock on there it’s not mine. They are full of fraud ! Many google reviews also state lots of rat damage as well. I will be consulting an atty.
Great Storage facility
I loved Doug! He is absolutely so helpful and made the process of setting up our storage so easy. I highly recommend this place!
13 to 76 like what
Don’t advertise a storage unit for $13/month if that’s not what customers are actually going to pay. By the time I got to checkout, the price had jumped because of a required lock, a protection plan, and other fees. Suddenly, that “$13” unit was going to cost around $34/month.
That’s not a deal it’s misleading advertising. If the real monthly cost is around $34, then just say it’s $34. Stop luring people in with a price that doesn’t reflect what they’ll actually pay. Be upfront and honest instead of wasting customers’ time.

I have been renting a unit at East Meadow NY Cubesmart for over two years now and have always been happy with my access and the staff have all always been friendly and very helpful. For me the Hempstead Turnpike location is very convenient.

Truly one of the worst companies to deal with. At the end of the day they just want all your money. Expect excessively high rate increases every 6 months with absolutely no regard on their part.

Poor Facility & service: My husband is a veteran & we are in…
My husband is a veteran & we are in our 80’s. We have had a storage unit in an old building for a number of years. Cube Smart took over the management. Our monthly fee keeps going up. It is currently $252 a month. They keep charging us for protection even after providing them with copies of our home owners policy declaration in person & by email. It is not clean or climate controlled, the elevator is often broken and our unit is on the 2nd floor. In order to move anything we have to navigate a huge building to find a trolley & access to an elevator. We have been trying to move out but it is so hard for us. There is no recourse for us; we feel like we have been caught in a spider’s web.
CubeSmart has been absolutely horrible…
CubeSmart has been absolutely horrible to work with.
First, we arrived at about 4:00pm on a Friday and needed to complete our reservation with the store manager. We had spoken to him the day before, told him when we'd be arriving, and he said it was no problem. When we arrived the store was closed (even though the hours listed are 9:00am-6:00pm, M-F). We called and it went to voice mail.
So, we did a reset. We hopped on the website and created a new reservation. We paid and got our code and headed in. The 10' x 10' storage unit we were assigned had a 3' x 3' air duct in the corner.
So, we did another reset. Called corporate and switched storage units. Of course, we had to pay a second time. It took more than two weeks (and multiple calls and emails) to get our refund on the initial unit. The store manager was incredibly hard to reach and, generally, non-responsive.
Moving on. After a few weeks, I got an email with an notification about the next payment. Since I'd paid with a credit card, I assumed it would just be charged to my CC on file. The next email I got from CubeSmart was about a 20% Late Fee (!) that had been applied to my bill. There was NO notice that the late fee was going to be applied. Just a notification that it HAD been applied. CubeSmart is refusing to consider refunding that late fee since there was no notification.
I'm so glad that I only have to deal with them for another few months. Will NEVER use them again.
bait and awitch
I rented a 10x25 interior space, beginning about 2.5 yrs ago in Dearborn, MI on Commerce when it was a Public Storage. It was an excellent deal, even though I never received my free month promo. Early last year it switched to CubeSmart, and immediately the negative changes started. For one, I came in at the height of summer and it was 80 degrees inside (like today). The whole point of paying extra for a climate controlled space is to protect things in storage which are temperature sensitive. 80 is borderline. In the past 6 months or so, the price has gone up twice. So I am now paying 61% more than when I started. I compare that to another space which I have strictly for business inventory that has never gone up in 7 years. I additionally just noticed that they are charging a surcharge for auto credit card payments, which was never disclosed and I don't know when it started. In addition to it being 80 inside when I went today, both doors were broken and they had cut the electric feed to the space. That was not something I used, but it was part of the space and now it's not. The challenge, of course, is that a 10x25 space holds a lot of stuff, and so I have to figure out at what point these obvious aggressive increases, scaled back service and lower quality of space make it worth the pain of moving. No doubt the math the new owner or mgt group rely on.
Moved out of my unit on 6/11/26
Moved out of my unit on 6/11/26, and management is refusing to close out my account even when I submitted pictures of cleaned out unit. I have had trouble with management for 2 yrs when a new manager named Stephanie was hired. This manager let workmen go in my unit, touch my belongings without my permission when they were changing doors& locks. When I found out I call the police and had a report made, Stephanie the manager made it out to be a racist problem bc their workmen were Mexican, when I was able to check my unit there was an antique chair missing among my belongings. When I showed Stephanie my unit and everything was touched, she stepped back and started screaming how racist I was, claiming I accused her and her workmen of stealing. She was hoping to get the public attention to start a race riot. I contacted Cubesmart before and they never did anything about it. Again, had problems with the door and lock, the 2 managers came and fixed it, but I couldn't lock it so Stephanie said, leave it open till you buy a lock, I had to go get another lock and come back. The managers have it out for me, now, after submitting pictures of a clean out unit they are still playing games.they are trying to charge me a late fee. A law suit against Cubesmart is in the future. If ppl are smart, read reviews and choose another storage facility. I filed a complaint with BBB and next the state Attorney
The rental process was very easy
The rental process was very easy. The location was ideal for me. When it was time to move my items out terminating the rental agreement was seamless as the manager Matt was very helpful.
Horrible client relationship model
Let's start by have been on auto pay for over a year. Card on file expires and within days a) attempt to self-correct online and blocked as to force clients into store b) explain to store manager that the card expired and could she reverse a late charge as result of not able to change card online. The corporate response, no ability to reverse late fee. In end, they bait you with low entry price and "will" immediately up contracted rate per signed agreement. They then nickel and dime by establishing hard line positions on what are clearly things (like late fee reversals) where they can flex based on customers history of auto pay payments. My suggestion to prospective clients...run to U Haul and/or Extra Storage which still hold higher levels of client service.
CubeSmart canceled my reservation with no written notice
CubeSmart's online system cancelled my reservation with no written notice and then refused to honor the original rate.
On 5/6 I reserved a 10x15 unit online: 1151 East New York Ave, Brooklyn NY, 11212 location; $277.80/mo; 5/21 move-in date. When I clicked into the SmartRental flow from the confirmation email, CubeSmart's system changed my move-in date to 5/7 with no written notice. Then the store cancelled my reservation after I missed a few phone calls which my phone flagged as potential spam - no attempt to reach me via text or email. I only found out the reservation had been cancelled a couple weeks later when I tried to complete it and couldn't.
The store and district manager refused to honor the rate that I'd reserved, leading me to rent at $398.50/mo, 43% more, since I had movers in 5 days. Their online FAQ specifically says "you can start your rental anytime between now and your move-in date with SmartRental", but apparently doing so led to my reservation being cancelled.
Then I showed up at the store and the unit was way smaller than advertised, around 8x14.5, even narrower than 8' at some points due to I-beams. I cancelled and took my business elsewhere, having to scramble with my moving company arriving in just a few days.
The store rep was helpful throughout the whole thing. Not his fault, just deceptive business practices by CubeSmart!
Do not store your belongings in…
Do not store your belongings in cubesnart. They get you in with a great price and it continues to rise like paying rent for a NY apartment. My unit was dark for years, and when I complained that I couldn't see they told me it takes along time for someone to fix something. I said 3 yrs. for them to replace a light bulb. They never did. They also don't prorate your unused usage of space. Way Overpriced. Cubesmart 183 Lorraine St. A money grab.
INSURANCE COVERAGE PROVIDED
I am posting this review to share my experience with CubeSmart and the insurance claim process associated with my storage unit.
After discovering damage to my stored property, I filed Claim #030028 and provided documentation, photographs, and supporting information. Throughout the process, I was given inconsistent explanations regarding my claim. I was advised that the insurance coverage was connected to Ameritas, and later told that Ameritas no longer handled CubeSmart-related coverage and that Fortegra was involved in the claims process.
One of my biggest concerns is that when I moved out of the storage unit, no CubeSmart employee or representative was present to inspect, document, or examine the alleged damage with me. Despite this, I was later informed that there was insufficient proof of damage from the storage facility.
When I recently spoke with management and reviewed the history of the claim, the notes being read back to me did not match the information and documentation I recall submitting from the beginning. I have maintained records of emails, photographs, claim submissions, and communications throughout this process.
As a customer, it is extremely frustrating to provide documentation, receive changing explanations, and then have a claim denied.
My advice to anyone renting from CubeSmart: document everything, take extensive photos and videos before moving in and before moving out, keep copies of all emails and claim submissions, and do not assume that someone from the facility will inspect or document damage on your behalf.
Based on my experience, I am very disappointed with how this claim was handled.
Excellent customer service with MS DEE
Wow! Cubemart is a wonderful way to store your college kids items for the summer! Signing up and securing a locker is simple and fast!
I spoke to Ms. Dee and she was extremely helpful and kind! We live 14 hours away and she is going to assist our deaf daughter on how to get into her storage cube and set up her lock! She even has a app to help with translation! i am so thankful for Ms. Dee and kindness! I truly appreciate her!
very clean--like the covered…
very clean--like the covered entry/loading dock. You need better maintenance on your elevators. Several times one or both elevators have been out at the same time, and I've had to come back in days.-which was surprising because the unit are fairly new. Perhaps you could offer long term rental discounts(or slow down the rental increases on these units).Staff is very friendly
