This is a shortened version of the problems and to date nothing has been rectified, some 5 months after starting. Our dream house is ruined.
We’ve opened the integral blinds on the front windows and were shocked to find the solar glass fitted to them is a completely different colour to the rear of the house and the curtain walling.
After checking the window stickers, we realised we’ve been supplied with the incorrect solar glass. It’s from Pilkington, not Saint-Gobain, and is called Activ Blue instead of Bio Blue.
Activ Blue is clear inside but very blue from outside, which is even more noticeable against the curtain walling. Bio Blue is the same tinted blue from inside and outside.
We ordered the glass for the whole house to be exactly the same, Bio Blue, as specified in our email dated 29/01/25. This defeats the purpose of paying an extra £5k to have Bio Blue on the rear of the property to match the front and sides.
There are also discrepancies in the anthracite colour of the opening sashes and frames, and colour discrepancies inside with the glazing beads and frames.
Some opening sashes and frames have visible gaps to the outside.
One window doesn’t open at all, and others don’t shut properly to seal.
I peeled the tape off the cills on the curtain walling on Friday and discovered massive scratches under the protective tape.
There’s a defect/dent in one of the glass panels inside the curtain walling.
Some frames and cills have dents.
Some windows aren’t plumb or level, and the glazing beads are cut short and not square to the frame. The rubbers on site are lumpy and pushed into corners, leaving gaps. Some sashes and frames aren’t parallel, and the joints on the opening bifold panels are out of alignment. The powder coating is inconsistent, patchy, rough, and bubbly, and it’s flaked off in places. The double glazed units have unacceptable major ripples from the toughening process. The front door internal and external full height handles are missing, and the handles to all doors aren’t fitted to what we specified. Internal knob locks aren’t fitted as specified to bifolds, sliders, and doors. Two corner posts aren’t supplied or fitted. Fillers aren’t fitted to ground floor windows and doors to fill the gap from the sips frame to the brickwork. A black handle is fitted to the master bedroom slider. There are scratches under the glass on the roof lights surround. The cover strips for fixings on the roof lights are badly mitred and too long, pushing the mitre out. Martin attempted to recut them but hasn’t got the skills and filled the mitre joints with silicone. Covers on the weep holes are missing from one roof light, and the others don’t fit flush because of swarf from milling. The join to the door and window to the laundry room doesn’t look correct on the outside. Two sliders are difficult to open. There’s a lack of silicone seal under the cill to the brickwork.
